I wonder if what might save him is he asked for a lawyer before giving the duress PIN, a lawyer might have told him it was a bad idea to do it.
Re:Setting up a free *.city.state.us locality domain on Wednesday May 13, 2026 @05:15PM (#48127680)
I had one for a long time but the isp that was the local registrar is long defunct now
It flipped after the analog shutoff in 2009, most US TV stations are UHF now (even if the tv displays their VHF channel number)

Re:A Return to Blu-ray as Streaming Value Evaporates on Saturday March 23, 2024 @03:16PM (#39802390)
I only buy the bluray if I've already seen it and know I'd want to watch again when I receive it. Keeps me from collecting stuff that doesn't get watched.

I loop through the collection by putting a watched disc back in a separate spot until I've gone through them all and then start over.

WebTV is probably why I now have a computer hooked to my TV

I've been reconciling my transactions in GnuCash for 20 years, I've been pretty good at catching charges I don't expect.

I also set the credit cards to send me an email for any transaction over $1.

One issue I've run into with unexpected NSFW in my federated TL on a single user instance is when people I follow reply to an unfollowed account's NSFW post, when the reply gets sent to my server it fetches the parent post
I had a work blackberry on verizon that had unlimited data and no free sms texts. We used BBM and Google Voice to avoid paying sms fees

They had a merger condition that resulted in "Connect by T-Mobile" and I went from paying $50 a month to $15 for roughly the same service.

Re:Mastercard Should Stop Selling Our Data on Sunday October 15, 2023 @09:55PM (#37895180)
When I opened my checking account at Bank of America I was issued a ordinary debit card. After a couple years they replaced it with one with a Visa logo. I argued with them on the phone long enough to get them to replace it with an ordinary debit card. After than one expired they did the same thing and I gave up. I haven't seen a debit card from any bank without visa or mc in a long time.
Re:Mastercard Should Stop Selling Our Data on Sunday October 15, 2023 @09:51PM (#37895159)
Sometimes the terminal will ask Debit or Credit, sometimes it will just prompt for a PIN (meaning it wants to run it as debit) and you can just hit OK and it will run it as credit instead.
You are allowed to say cooking oil spray is fat free because the 1/3 of a second of spray serving size allows you to round the fat value to zero.
Re:Pixel 8 to have seven years of Android updates on Wednesday October 04, 2023 @11:50AM (#37766941)
I think people were surprised Google did the work to upgrade it to Android 13 but only did a couple months of patches for it. I think the old promise was 2 years of major os and an additional year of patches.
Re:Tesla blocks Scottsdale woman from charging her car on Friday September 15, 2023 @07:10PM (#37530180)
More accurate to say her car was blocked from using superchargers. Not ok, but she could use other chargers.

Anyone else remember paying fees to change your ESN with a CDMA carrier?
In the olden times your ISP usually included it like they did with email, the instructions for my old isp still exists though I doubt the news server does

Re:How Will ATSC 3.0 Transform TV Advertising? on Wednesday July 12, 2023 @03:23PM (#36700318)
I've had an HD Homerun with ATSC3 for a couple years now, but I haven't yet seen an ATSC3 TV in person.

This sounds complicated to implement compared to "ordinary" digital broadcasts, what is the incentive for TV manufacturers to implement it? It seems like every tv maker has their own plans for streaming and ad tracking, I would think they would view implementing ATSC3 as helping the competition.
