Re:Amazon axes 16,000 jobs as it pushes AI and efficiency on Wednesday January 28, 2026 @05:21PM (#46802418)
you would be amazed at the amount of middle managers who keep failing upwards in organizations like Amazon
Re:Switch to Jujutsu Already: A Tutorial on Monday October 13, 2025 @09:45AM (#45568278)
"Git is too hard" is never a good argument to promote the use of a different tool. I use git on the terminal exclusively, never had an issue amending a commit or rebasing a branch, or even dealing with conflict resolution most of the time I just use one of the automatic strategies.
Re:Switch to Jujutsu Already: A Tutorial on Monday October 13, 2025 @09:41AM (#45568237)
I worked with SVN and I hated it, merging branches and dealing with conflict resolution on SVN was like getting stepped on the balls
I used to work at Amazon, 3-day RTO was not nice but tolerable, 5-day RTO made half of our senior staff leave. my commute to the office wasn't so bad, but my friends had to drive 1+ hours to the office and then pay $26/day for parking which you only get 50% reimbursed.

Amazon touts "frugality" as one of their core tenets but its hard to reconcile frugality with all the expenses of going to the office.

Re:Jujutsu for Everyone on Sunday August 31, 2025 @02:05PM (#45085389)
what does "retrofitting" git implies? I am confused by the agent-specific systems bit.
There is no examples or documentation on `CustomLLM` the README file has examples on `SystemLLM` and `OpenaiLLM` but there's no way for us to know if we need to bring in guff files, ollama, hugginface, etc.
Re:Show HN: Clyp – Clipboard Manager for Linux on Friday August 22, 2025 @01:01PM (#44986928)
Great work! does the CLI support clipboard operations like MacOS' `pbcopy` and `pbpaste` ? I've added it to my stars to keep and eye on the project, GTK4 and wayland support makes it rather futureproof IMO
Re:I've returned to Linux but I miss PowerShell on Sunday July 27, 2025 @11:12AM (#44701910)
that is a thing that started under Nadella's leadership, during the 90s it was a different story.
linux compat would've been nice
Re:Google aims to reinvent email with Wave (2009) on Tuesday June 17, 2025 @10:55AM (#44300024)
I was a wave user, barely had any friends in it, but it felt truly revolutionary back then. This started my disillusionment with Google and their products.
Re:Googler... ex-Googler on Monday April 14, 2025 @12:32PM (#43683121)
Same thing is happening to me this week at Amazon, I'm just not writing a post about it
Amazon likes to force their devs into full stack roles, like they'll hire you for a frontend role and you'll end up writing java. Some teams do recognize the need for specialization, but generally speaking UI at amazon is an afterthought.
Good riddance, there's too many layers of management for a company that touts "It's always day 1", and once you become a manager you can only fail upwards.
Re:Google change is breaking some digital photo frames on Friday March 07, 2025 @02:15PM (#43293308)
after working at Amazon for a couple of years I ended up closing my AWS account

Re:Nix – Death by a Thousand Cuts on Friday January 17, 2025 @12:24AM (#42734365)
nix is just a package manager, you can install it on other distros, even on macOS. nixOS is the distro based on nix the package manager, hope this helps.
mDNS is superior to UPnP, they just made a compounding sum of bad choices that ended up in a bad architecture. I do hope companies start learning that you can't have suit doing running an engineering company
Re:Ghostty 1.0 on Wednesday January 01, 2025 @02:22PM (#42568492)
how did you decided on building for arch and NixOS but not for red hat or debian?
Re:Surfer: Open-Source Personal Data Warehouse on Wednesday December 18, 2024 @01:13AM (#42448471)
Great project, is there any plans to add linux support?
Re:Amazon Nova on Saturday December 07, 2024 @12:17AM (#42347456)
I work at Amazon, you don't need to follow this steps to use bedrock. You. Are. Shameless
I've been using nextcloud, its been pretty solid, but this project looks good too
Re:Web Components Are Okay on Sunday September 29, 2024 @08:12PM (#41692103)
I work with web components within a FAANG company, it was a huge mistake and everyone hates it. If your argument for web components is that they're "so intuitive you don't have to learn" then you're lying to yourself.
The website looks nice, the domain is rather unusual, which registrar did you get it from? I used punto.hn but their business model was very weird and required me to eat a $15 wire fee every year on top of the cost of the domain, I dropped them after the first year.
Re:Apple found in breach of EU competition rules on Monday June 24, 2024 @05:43PM (#40781165)
I like a product from Ford, if I own it I have the right to install whatever I want right? Except Ford has no obligation to make their products compatible with other car makers. If I wanted to LS-swap an F150 it would require a lot of technical knowledge, time, and help but it can be done. You can develop your own jailbreaks for iOS it just requires a lot of technical knowledge, time, and help.

Re:Web Components Eliminate JavaScript Framework Lock-In on Monday November 27, 2023 @01:59PM (#38436603)
I work at a big org and we use Stencil to produce UI kits using web components. In my experience and the anecdotal experience of the people in adjacent orgs that work with web components too: Its still a shit show.
