You could just use something like adguard to block DNS requests for telemetry endpoints.
Re:The first wired XR glasses powered by Android XR on Friday October 30, 2026 @06:28AM (#50302035)
Great, thanks for the info.

I really wanted something I could bring with me when working away from home without a multi-monitor setup.

The glasses I had were Viture, I remember now, they were very disappointing.

The quest is really affordable for this purpose, so I think I might try it.

Re:The first wired XR glasses powered by Android XR on Thursday October 29, 2026 @03:50AM (#50285684)
It works with Linux as multiple monitors? The resolution is ok for reading code for long periods?

I bought some vr glasses a few years back but ended up returning them as there was no way you could code with them.

They weren't xreal, but a similar competitor, can't recall the name.

It's used in "How to win friends and influence people" if I recall correctly. A great book that everyone should read, just a shame about the title.

I've been meaning to reread it for a while.

Re:Creating a Garmin "MCP" on Thursday October 15, 2026 @05:19AM (#50101197)
I've started exporting my sleep data from Garmin connect. And my expenditure, weight, nutrition, from macrofactor.

I add them to a spreadsheet along with other metrics I've been collecting manually for a long time, like tape, caliper measurements etc.

I do it weekly and then ask Claude to analyse the sheet.

It's super manual but just once a week and it can be really helpful / spots insights I often miss like how sleep affected something etc.

I'm just a bit jaded from Claude's tone of voice, so it made me not want to read it.

I did skim over the important bits though.

Or Firefox containers.

Not sure how that partitions the files on disk though, would probably need some code changes to work with some kind of firejail setup.

Re:How to set up SPF, DKIM, and DMARC for your sending domain on Thursday October 01, 2026 @03:29PM (#49926037)
This is a cool site to visualise your SPF, DKIM, DMARC setup interactively.

I can confirm the ergobaby is great.

Though the memory of owning one and knowing about different brands of baby carriers feels like it belongs to another lifetime now.

Re:Boards of Casio on Friday September 25, 2026 @04:09PM (#49849277)
I was hoping this was a play on Boards of Canada and I was not disappointed.

I was just listening this week after not having listened in some time, as it's the 30th anniversary of Hi Scores.

Re:How my e-reader lost its stripes on Tuesday September 15, 2026 @04:02AM (#49709250)
Yeah, my old kobo clara hd fits in my pocket, but it's not perfect, feels like it would get damaged.

I had been looking at the clara bw when I thought my hd was broken but managed to repair it.

Do you have the X4 or X3? I imagine with the small size it's barely a few sentences per page? Feels like it would be difficult to read comfortably. Maybe it's like reading one of those tiny bibles.

Re:How my e-reader lost its stripes on Tuesday September 15, 2026 @02:09AM (#49708383)
I'm not convinced on the price. It's about 75 euro delivered for me.

It's about half the price of a kobo Clara bw, which has much better specs, higher ppi, waterproof etc.

I am tempted though.

Re:GrapheneOS' rewritten Messages app is released on Friday September 11, 2026 @06:55PM (#49666552)
Where I live, an sms app is not very important. It's almost exclusively used for two factor authentication messages. Everyone uses WhatsApp, signal, telegram etc, even businesses and services.

So having a bare bones aosp messaging app was never an issue for me. Having said that, I find fossify messages pretty good.

Will try out the new GOS app too.

Re:Show HN: What if the speed of light was 5 km/h? on Thursday September 10, 2026 @02:22AM (#49639181)
I'm reading the clockwork rocket at the moment. It's a little different but it's set in a universe where the laws of physics / behaviour of light seems to be different to our own.
Re:Tiny $70 Xteink X3 e-reader puts Silicon Valley to shame on Tuesday September 08, 2026 @02:23AM (#49606214)
On point 1, I was imagining that people would just think I was starting intently at a small phone.

Which is a little embarrassing to be so absorbed in a device.

Re:Tiny $70 Xteink X3 e-reader puts Silicon Valley to shame on Tuesday September 08, 2026 @02:20AM (#49606185)
I have an old kobo Clara hd.

I considered buying an X4 for the portability (and to be honest installing and tinkering with crosspoint sounds fun).

But the kobo can fit in my jeans pocket and is about the size of a normal paperback page. I feel like the X4 would be too small and might be frustrating.

Re:Fastpotify on Wednesday September 02, 2026 @08:01AM (#49534997)
Wow, I'm usually the first to complain about buggy software and bad UX. But I use spotify on android and linux and I have no issues.

Everything works really well?

I can manage playlists, play on one device, control on another etc.

Re:Creepy Crawlies on Sunday August 30, 2026 @07:10PM (#49503745)
Monero is fascinating. I downloaded the spec and tried to digest it, but the mathematics and cryptography are quite dense, at least for a casual read.

I might try to tackle it again when I can give it some more attention.

Re:Kobo can run apps now on Friday August 21, 2026 @07:59PM (#49395217)
I'm still using my kobo clara hd that I bought 8 years ago.

What a great device.

Re:Quake Shareware, a CD-ROM just a little too full on Tuesday August 18, 2026 @05:59PM (#49353326)
IIUC the rotating challenge actually didn't have anything to do with the key, it was a red herring. The actual decryption key was just a function of the fixed serial number or something like that.
Reminds me of the universal paperclip thing. AI harvesting matter for more hamsters.
Re:Advancing the price-performance frontier with GPT‑5.6 on Thursday July 30, 2026 @02:49PM (#49114047)
It's crazy. Are they doing any precomputing as you type, I wonder if you paste a block of text is it the same speed.
I've seen similar on some android apps I think, where it will ask you if you consent to sharing data with partners or something similar.

When you say no there's a huge list of partners you have to disable one by one, it's probably 15 minutes of work to go through them all.

I can't think of an example app right now, but usually it's on first install or something like that. Not sure GDPR applies to apps though.

Does this double dose completely prevent infection?
I recently read "Everything is Tuberculosis". It describes a similar issue with the rich / poor country divide.

It's quite sad and difficult to read at times.

I'm not sure it would have been that easy for them to back it up.

Depending on his settings.

You can disable the usb port entirely if you like, so that it is only possible to charge the device by switching it off. Or enable charging only when unlocked etc.

Or if his device had rebooted I don't think it would be possible to extract anything.

During my wife's second pregnancy, we got a lot more information and did more preparation than for the first.

Someone shared the BRAIN acronym for making decisions.

Can't remember it exactly, but it was like ask / think about benefits, risks, alternatives, intuition, doing Nothing (for now).

I think the Nothing one was the most important, what happens if I don't take action and defer the decision. Medical professionals often make you feel like a decision is urgent when sometimes it is not.

Re:Annoying and alarming things about OpenCode on Monday July 20, 2026 @09:41AM (#48978778)
I tried opencode and pi recently.

Having come from Claude code, I was a bit shocked that both seem to allow edits by default with no confirmation dialog.

One IIRC allows you to enable it in config and the other needs a plugin.

Ah you're right, I misread it.
Re:GrapheneOS has been ported to Android 17 on Tuesday June 16, 2026 @06:07PM (#48562855)
I'm in Europe, but I had accepted that I had to do without. I hadn't heard of curve, going to check that out.
