Some places are so cloud pilled they can't fathom it.
"can't be brazen corruption because it's too obviously brazen corruption"
Re:Scaling Git at OpenAI on Tuesday November 03, 2026 @12:21AM (#50348401)
I agree with your sentiment but it's really not hard to bottleneck git. Trivial, in fact.
Re:Fair Use Benefits Everyone on Friday October 30, 2026 @08:20PM (#50311920)
What about training on the source weights seeing as you can train on the source material under fair use?
Re:Fair Use Benefits Everyone on Friday October 30, 2026 @08:05PM (#50311797)
But let me guess, the trained model is a novel work and is protected, right?
Re:Fair Use Benefits Everyone on Friday October 30, 2026 @08:00PM (#50311760)
Not that much revenue yet but I feel you.
Re:Java's new AOT cache feature is in a rough state on Thursday October 29, 2026 @11:59AM (#50291163)
Should probably just kick in the JIT at that point, no?
Dynamically linked dependencies? CI and semver aware automatic dependency tracking? Automatic updates pointed at personal app depots?
Re:The first wired XR glasses powered by Android XR on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @10:04PM (#50283692)
I think these are see through additive displays, not passthrough, no?
Re:The first wired XR glasses powered by Android XR on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @08:47PM (#50283000)
Those are 3DOF head tracking, right? This is inside-out tracked, 6DOF and hand tracking.
Re:MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display and Touch on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @01:32PM (#50277470)
I guess they're testing the water before turning on native iPad app support? Not sure why they wouldn't ship it straight away.
Re:MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display and Touch on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @01:27PM (#50277336)
You act like you don't use a touch screen every day. Its not some crazy impossible technology to have an oleophobic display.
How is Musk a political enemy other than people think he breaks the law kind of a lot? Isn't seeing Musk as a ln ally of the right kind of an admission of corrupt money dealings with the administration?

Reaching really hard to try to both-sides the narrative.

That would put them in the criminal record column, unless you mean "without legal review", ie anyone they feel like?
Re:Genie 4 on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @04:31PM (#50265353)
I guess they want military contracts or something.
Re:AI promised less work. I've never worked more on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @09:51AM (#50259333)
Do it yourself then if you prefer. Same as it's ever been.
Only works if employees can't found something new. Which might be the case right now.

Really, it feels like we're in a quiet depression.

Re:Anthropic S-1 on Monday October 26, 2026 @11:55AM (#50245915)
In this scenario, no one seems to talk about how, way before the end, AI tanks the value of thought work far before they take over other industries. Or even more extreme, the total collapse of white collar work...

Doesn't that factor into the future revenue? Feels like people imagine suddenly fully owning the means of production in a vibrant economy but how does that really make sense?

Re:iPhone Duo Teardown on Sunday October 25, 2026 @11:43PM (#50238838)
Phones have gotten bigger and bigger and yet you can't fathom folks want a big screen?
This is closer to a light switch than the HVAC itself. Do you expect those to need replacement at 10-15 years?
Re:Xbox Turns Down Netflix $500M Offer on Sunday October 25, 2026 @01:41PM (#50234017)
Castlevania and Cyberpunk are great. Devil May Cry is fun.
I mean it's a goofy thought. In this future why would you have a personal account and not one provided by your corporate overlord anyway? Why are humans needed at all in this future? Its silly.
Re:Xbox Turns Down Netflix $500M Offer on Saturday October 24, 2026 @11:50PM (#50228132)
Their game adaptations are actually pretty good though.
How much could it possibly cost to keep these working?
Re:Docker Is Weird on Saturday October 24, 2026 @01:52PM (#50223540)
The magic of the Dockerfile is that it puts the onus of spelling out the environment dependencies on the maintainer, not the user. This was always the case but the difference is now its an easily verifiable, non-binary file.

Layering is as much an abstraction paradigm as a performance one. Its not trivial to verify every loose bootstrap script or .deb that would be needed to build a sandbox... But in a Dockerfile you can see its just some official alpine image base, and a few added files and an entrypoint.

LLMs are distilled bias. Its not like they're a classical AI being of pure logic.
Re:Is this the new cyber normal? on Friday October 23, 2026 @11:32AM (#50210727)
I have to wonder, what is the real substantive number difference in exploits. Its in the hype train's interest to pump the CVEs in both quantity and severity so I do wonder how much of that is happening.

The time to exploit is also somewhat hypothetical. We're assuming infinite attacker resources which hasn't really been the assumption.

We see a lot more news and fear but are we seeing more actual "large scale exploitation"?

I'd love to see some numbers in that regard.

Re:I can't believe PowerShell is good on Thursday October 22, 2026 @01:45AM (#50191617)
I like Powershell but what's funny is you can now write single file C# scripts and run them from the dotnet command. No need for a solution or anything. Actually pretty nice for shell scripting now.
Re:C# now beats Rust on WASM size on Thursday October 22, 2026 @01:00AM (#50191360)
C# async is great. One of the best implementations of cooperative multi threading you can get, IMO.

Greenthreads or what have you are not a replacement if you want to do things like have a UI thread or bind to a native thread for interop. But you _can_ with async/await.

Re:Code Is Clay Now on Thursday October 22, 2026 @12:44AM (#50191264)
If you don't do the work to separate the actual specifications from what the legacy app happens to do then why are you even rewriting it?
