Also GPT partitions have little use when using mdraid/dm-crypt/lvm2 (or zfs) stack. IIRC Windows have similar features with dynamic partitions, so I don't see any reason to use bios partitioning for anything beyond boot (and MBR is enough for it, even without extended partitions).
>buy used CD's

If artists receive nothing from such trades, why not just pirate (assuming you do not care about physical disc)?

Biometrics also cannot be used to produce cryptographic keys, meaning that all depend on that last conditional jump not being circumvented.

Regulations & compatibility.
>why cyrrilic characters or umlauts cause issues in your scripts...

Any text format can be broken by broken character encoding. I saw plenty of XML being used without any charset declarations. And JSON is in same position as CSV.

Problem is not CSV, it's Excel. It's hard to blame format, when application is insane enough to use locale settings to determine file parsing

I am all for text-only, structured web; but gopher transfer protocol is broken mess (which is an achievement considering simplicity of it's purpose).
Because search warrant is removal of privacy rights, which is something only court should be allowed do.
>but can verify the transactions to the drug site themselves

Once you start selectively give out user data, you are basically giving out warrants yourself and acting as a judge.

"fearless concurrency" is meaningless marketing, "zero-cost abstractions" is valid term

Main difference is not robustness. It's that CD are digital and can be copied perfectly.
>a half decent website

And what is wrong with current site?

>ugly

Matter of taste. I personally find it much more comfortable than gmail ui - less clutter and much faster

Works on server, used MUA does not affect it

>Why can't you just click a button and be done

Dump 150 table database, both schema and data. Except two tables, for which you need only schema. Then compress, encrypt & email.

With CLI I can spend 10 minutes looking up documentation, shove command into shell, start it and go to lunch. If I need to something like that again, I can Ctrl-R it, tune and launch again in couple minutes.

But maybe there is a button I can just click?

CMD --help

man CMD

Tab competition

Command line history search

>many users won't know the real internet

Many users have no need for 'real internet'.

>completely fuck it up

No. 'Real internet' is still there, it's not getting absolutely smaller, only relatively to 'rubber doll' one

Re:Practical and ethical implications of memory enhancement on Wednesday October 05, 2016 @10:12AM (#12643938)
The most nauseating image in that episode was how memory recording turned into total destruction of privacy. Police reading your thoughts is bad; society expecting people to expose their memories and demanding conformity not in behavior, but in internal state, is a nightmare
>cloud services

If service is required for work - it should on corporate network.

Well, if you have to store arbitrary, opaque JS object in XML document, it is much better way than JSON in CDATA
Re:Egypt cancelled DST on Tuesday July 05, 2016 @12:11PM (#12037424)
Russia also doubled amount of DST related problems by first making DST shift permanent, then canceling it after couple of years.

Re:Lenin was a mushroom on Wednesday June 22, 2016 @07:57AM (#11953139)
Most coherent argument was vague similarity of iconic "Lenin speaks from armored car" image (http://klin-demianovo.ru/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/prizyvvo...) with mycelium (car) and fruit body (Lenin)

>some sort of incoherent meandering rant

That was the point: total absurdity told with total seriousness.

There is FUSE on OSX, but Dropbox said it was not performant enough for them
Re:Germany to ban anonymous SIM cards[German] on Thursday April 21, 2016 @02:03PM (#11544118)
That data is already centralized and interlinked. There is no 'slack' (ambiguity and leeway) as far as government is concerned.

I am not arguing for using government-issued IDs for non-government services (as in original post), and consider enforcement of such use a direct attack on citizen freedom, but only for having single ID for use in state-person relations.

Re:Germany to ban anonymous SIM cards[German] on Thursday April 21, 2016 @11:22AM (#11542808)
Government will identify citizens anyway. It's not choice between ID and no ID, but between simple ID and ad-hoc scheme (Name/Surname/Birthdate/Residence composite, or issuing separate id for each institution).

While IDs do have negative consequences, I see zero downside in replacing VATIN, passport number (linked list of "previous document" in worst case, down to birth certificate), army id number, employment record book number and "$surname $name $patronymic, born $birth_date at $birth_place, registered $registration_place" official title with single citizen ID.

4chan is quite "web2.0" for a board. BBS'es on 2ch.net could be better example, with their borer="1" tables, wall-of-text navigation, CGI scripts and adorable brick background

No, I am not, I was talking purely from morality standpoint.

>If you encourage someone to commit adultery, you are morally culpable

Apparently we just happen to have different views. For me, adultery encouragement is unsympathetic act, but does not fit criteria for being amoral.
