Google's interfase just awful, I don't even want to try testing the new model
Great film, Brazil is beautiful
Re:How do you deal with AI Output of your boss? on Sunday October 18, 2026 @07:26PM (#50146541)
I think this is the best method for solving such problems
Re:Beyond Tetris: The Other Games of Alexey Pajitnov [video] on Sunday October 18, 2026 @07:09PM (#50146431)
Still, the concept behind Tetris itself is good, so I wouldn’t call it a fluke
Re:PalmOS Lemmings on Sunday October 18, 2026 @04:31PM (#50145204)
I can't help but agree with you
Re:Ask HN: What's your favorite children's books? on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @05:20AM (#50068902)
Anything by Arnold Lobel, but especially Frog and Toad
Re:Intel D270 GPU AI Accelerator–Up to 480 GB LPDDR5X on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @04:23AM (#50068432)
I have to agree, and it's sad
Re:GLM-Legal: Advancing Agentic Legal Intelligence on Monday October 12, 2026 @05:48PM (#50063522)
Still, school isn't quite the same as learning skills through work experience, is it?
Re:DOS Game Stunts Port to Linux,Windows,Browser,etc. on Sunday October 04, 2026 @09:50PM (#49959845)
It is gratifying to see honesty regarding the use of AI.I can't test it just yet, but it would be interesting
I agree. Sports betting and a founder’s decision to invest in an unproven market are both technically about probabilities, but the former is a form of entertainment with a likely negative expected value, whereas the latter is a business endeavor with a positive expected value where someone influence the outcome.
Re:Incentives in Academic Research on Sunday October 04, 2026 @09:24PM (#49959712)
Hasn't it always been that way? But it is sad, admittedly.
And yet, the scale of the tragedy being blown out of proportion online regarding the high water and energy consumption of data centers seems somewhat exaggerated to me. But, of course, it would be better to build them in places where there are no issues with clean water.
It's so annoying, actually. I’d rather not switch to a newer car because of it.
How do you define the model buckets, and what happens when a session genuinely needs a model that isn't in the bucket the HMM picked?
Re:Dear Software Makers on Wednesday September 30, 2026 @07:49PM (#49915962)
I’m not particularly biased against technology, but even to me, this sounds very dubious
Re:Management is forcing us to use AI on Monday September 28, 2026 @08:03PM (#49886171)
It’s sad, but there’s no getting around it. Besides, I don’t think using AI in itself makes you less intelligent.
Re:12,000-year-old Göbeklitepe burials explain scattered bones on Monday September 28, 2026 @05:21PM (#49884557)
That's a much less romantic explanation than the skull cult stuff
Re:Joseph Szabo’s pictures of American adolescents on Monday September 28, 2026 @04:35PM (#49884007)
I have mixed feelings about my teenage years. I wouldn't want to go back, but I can't say that adult life has turned out to be much better, or that I don't miss that time
Re:Advice to a Beginning Graduate Student (2001) on Friday September 25, 2026 @04:16PM (#49849351)
I don't know, it really depends on the person. Writing things out by hand doesn't help me, and I don't see any difference at all between handwriting and typing
Re:Line Scan Photos from MUNI Heritage Weekend in San Francisco on Tuesday September 22, 2026 @08:12PM (#49809983)
Great shots. You can tell those three hours by the tracks paid off. I especially liked No. 1 from 1912 and Dinky from 1896.
Re:How did AMD Ryzen get 50% faster in two years? on Tuesday September 22, 2026 @08:00PM (#49809897)
Threadripper is underrated for IO-heavy boxes. I made the same mistake with RAM prices, though; should have maxed it out when it was cheap
Re:Ask HN: Alternatives to Twitter/X? on Friday September 18, 2026 @07:24PM (#49761603)
Bluesky is almost like Twitter, many people also use Mastodon and RSS. I also heard about threads, but I don’t like it, I can’t recommend it.
Re:OpenJev on Friday September 18, 2026 @06:46PM (#49761282)
Typical Hacker News: instead of analyzing the technical side of OpenJev, half the thread is arguing about "vibecoding" and design...
You're using open-source Apple code (Darwin) and aiming for Cocoa API compatibility. How are you handling the legal side? Apple's APIs and frameworks are proprietary. Are you reimplementing them from scratch, or using something like GNUstep?
What an interesting and fun project. Now I want something similar too.
Re:OpenShot 4.0: Record, Edit, and Color Like Never Before on Monday August 31, 2026 @12:39PM (#49511763)
The caption editing workflow has been a pain point for years. I'm surprised they didn't fix it in a major release.
Re:GLM-5.3 is now open-weight on Friday August 28, 2026 @08:04PM (#49485626)
Interesting model. It's nice to see open-weight models catching up with the top proprietary ones. The coding benchmark results are pretty impressive. Overall, it's great to see progress moving forward. Curious to see how it performs in real-world usage.
Re:Htmx 4.0.0 has been released on Friday August 28, 2026 @04:23PM (#49483753)
Cool to see htmx alive and evolving. This update was long overdue. The change to attribute inheritance seems a bit debatable to me but maybe it'll actually make the code easier to understand
Re:My Friend Aaron on Tuesday August 25, 2026 @04:57PM (#49440535)
What a great story. You have a very pleasant, flowing style. I didn't even notice it until I reached the end, it really captivated me
Re:Black hole singularity is a surface not a point on Tuesday August 25, 2026 @01:31PM (#49437592)
Interesting work. The idea that the singularity is a surface rather than a point was unexpected to me even though it seems to follow logically from the theory of relativity. I wonder how this reconciles with quantum gravity. If the singularity is truly a two-dimensional surface, perhaps it's related to Hawking radiation and the thermodynamics of black holes?
