Re:Ask HN: What's a Purchase You Regret? on Saturday November 08, 2025 @06:45PM (#45861286)
What mini PCs do you like, and which cooling system have you found nice to have?
Re:Ask HN: Are you / should we be preparing for "cyberattack" on Thursday October 23, 2025 @02:09AM (#45678697)
Very good summary, thank you!
I'm not sure how private and secure Telegram is, but I convinced many people to switch. The main reason behind every switch was not the better privacy, but the greater product: features, that the mainstream alternative did not have.
Re:Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (June 2025) on Monday June 30, 2025 @02:02PM (#44426161)
I'm building a website to integrate flashcards for memorization and LLMs for active learning.
The pictures on the gofundme look AI generated to me.
Re:How does YouTube unmute ads? Can this be disabled? on Tuesday November 19, 2024 @05:52AM (#42182070)
Why are you laughing on this?
Re:How do you find side projects? on Tuesday October 29, 2024 @09:05AM (#41983448)
Why aren't side projects worth it if they're just for the money?
Re:Ask HN: Have you ever had a "middle-out epiphany"? on Monday December 11, 2023 @04:13PM (#38605558)
So you mean a Eureka moment? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eureka_effect

I can imagine that your brain was developing those neuron paths for a while, but on that bus, in that moment, the paths related to these topics have finally met!
Re:Ask HN: What is going on with Anna's Archive? on Monday December 04, 2023 @10:23AM (#38518352)
For me, it works. By the way, I did not know about it, how is it different than https://libgen.is/ or https://www.gutenberg.org/?
Re:Ask HN: What games could you spend a lifetime playing? on Thursday November 30, 2023 @04:32AM (#38471505)
Oxygen Not Included, Don't Starve Together, Factorio, Age of Empires 3, BF3. I don't play that much anymore, but I love these games. Oh and chess, of course.
Re:Ask HN: What games could you spend a lifetime playing? on Thursday November 30, 2023 @04:28AM (#38471484)
I love that game, was about to mention it, glad somebody else already did it.
Re:Ask HN: What software do you pay for monthly? on Wednesday November 29, 2023 @04:41PM (#38465706)
First I obtained the trial, for one month. At the end of the trial, I cancelled it. Then they were bombarding me that how good it is, please come back, but I did not react for a few weeks. Then, out of nowhere, they told me that if I re-subscribe again, they'll give me 50% discount for the first two months. I don't know if I will cancel it again at the end of the two months, I'll see.
Re:Ask HN: How is your job search going? on Wednesday November 29, 2023 @02:28PM (#38464042)
Can I ask where are you based? Generally speaking I haven't really encountered with leetcode or design pattern type of questions, but I was mostly interviewed by Tier 1 and 2 [1] companies, and for junior-mid positions, and I live in Denmark.

ChatGPT, LinkedIn Premium (purchased at a 50% discount), Infinity for browsing Reddit on Android, Spotify, and YouTube Premium.

Among these, Spotify seems the least worthwhile to me. However, since YouTube Premium does the job and both are cheap, I keep subscriptions to both.

Would you recommend that book for non-C++ programmers too?
How would you compare plant-based diet to the meat-based diet? Like the side effects, how did you experience it?
Why no water after 8pm? That sounds so bizarre to me, especially, if I hit the bed at around 11pm.
Re:Ask HN: What Do Recruiters Do? on Thursday November 16, 2023 @05:19AM (#38287768)
On LinkedIn, whom should we contact? I'm genuinely curious because I'm looking for a new job as well. Sometimes there are contact in the job description, but sometimes not, in that case whom should I hit up?
What do you mean by "defensibility"?
Re:Ask HN: Which headset do you use for work? on Saturday November 04, 2023 @02:38PM (#38143890)
How comparable it is with MacOS?
It may be a long shot, but do you know anything like this for the USA?
Thanks for the insight, but I have to ask: how does one get into the USA? It's far easier to enter Canada through the Express Entry program. On the other hand, to enter the USA, you'd need a work visa, a spouse, or be extremely lucky and win the green card lottery.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

If I'm right, my next question is: What would you recommend for securing a position with an American company while being overseas? I live in Denmark, Europe, and would need to find that job online, which adds to the challenge.

I made this graph, and it started to kill my browser :D Do you know why?

Yes, please, it's a pain in the ass to use this website on Windows.
Re:Ask HN: Show me your half baked project on Friday October 13, 2023 @03:39AM (#37867873)
I created a Wordle Solver app: https://best-wordle-solver.vercel.app/

If you get stuck with solving Wordle, just type-in the words that you've already tried, set the statuses and on the right you can see recommended words to try out.

Code: https://github.com/rbjakab/wordle-solver

This, exactly this! I've been looking for a job for a while now, and of course I automated it... genuinely asking, who reads the 100s of cover letters anyway?
Re:Ask HN: How to find potentials users for my startup on Thursday September 28, 2023 @09:50AM (#37689594)
Oh my god, I didn't know about this website, it's amazing!
Re:Has the Reddit boycott lead to any result? on Friday September 15, 2023 @03:28AM (#37519697)
I still use Reddit, but not their official app, no way. I subscribed for Infinity, I like it so I use it
Re:Ask HN: What phone model do you currently own? on Friday September 15, 2023 @03:18AM (#37519624)
Samsung A52. It was not the fastest or the best model on the market when I purchased it, but it gets the job done. Also I like its great camera.
