What does this even mean
Slavoj Zizek would like this joke I feel because of the lack negativity: a person in the crowd effectively declares their individuality by claiming (in Zizek's way) "I would prefer not to be an individual."

However a Lacanian critique would be that the crowd lacks knowing what their higher desires should be, so they create a sudo desire of freedom without the self exploration of what they desire to be "free for". Zizek touches on this point too that freedom requires self understanding on what you want to be responsible for: to be free is to know what is your calling beyond yourself. Without knowing your calling, freedom is either just boredom or blindly following the desires of others.

I don't think this model supports video yet btw. At least it doesnt work with the API yet.

That's really interesting I think- literally putting the layout into ascii language to reason about.

Re:GPT-6 Sol and Luna on Tuesday September 22, 2026 @03:04PM (#49806458)
Gemini 3.8 Flash looks like its better than v7 Luna/Sol on DeepSWE v1.1 while at $0.75 per million input tokens and $3.75 per million output tokens. Luna is much cheaper, but Flash has nearly Astra's performance for under the price of Sol ($2/$10).
Re:I hate you Microsoft on Thursday September 17, 2026 @06:18PM (#49747444)
I do like Typst, but Typst isn't really ideal for diagrams... you could use it that way but I don't think it's ideal. Mermaid or PlantUML are better/cleaner options.
This is the coolest thing on HN that I've seen in a minute. The whole thing is a perfect blend of ideas with the end result of something that feels... magical. Honestly this is the highest inspiration to me as a builder as I just want to create magical experiences, even if they are just small oddities.
Also: please use a credit union and use mutually-owned insurance agencies. As a general statement, you'll be in way better hands.
Re:Software Drives People Insane on Thursday September 10, 2026 @12:55PM (#49646821)
As a founder of a few software startups, I agree with this. If I can give advice to other founders, remember than software is usually a means to an end, and for most users, they just want the bare bone essentials to work and work well. Everything else is nice-to-have-fluff that won't drive 99% of sales.

The apps I pay for are simple and focus on a super basic interface. BookFusion and Libro.fm are great examples.

Q3 XL and Q3 XS are the two I'm trying to decide on

Re:Compression Is Prediction on Wednesday August 12, 2026 @03:09PM (#49277174)
This feels like an AI comment, but I feel compelled to respond.

Recursion is not needed when you regress system components to its foundamental representations, which can be derived without any recursion involved. In the thread example, I don't need to recursively determine how to compress how a planet orbits a mass. I only need to 'jump to the end' by define the rules of gravity and the mass/velocity of the bodies. What I'm driving at: I am suspicious of "Recursion is the Key" to better intelligence as it moves the goal post of understanding intelligence to 'mere' reflections without having to address other qualities of representations, qualia, novelty, etc.

Nemotron 3.5 Lightning runs on how little GPU vram? Can q4 run on 16gb?

Re:Fermi Paradox on Saturday August 01, 2026 @04:46PM (#49138317)
Heretical view: intelligent alien life is everywhere swimming around us. We are just not capable of really understanding it. When a human walks past an ant, maybe the ant senses the shadow and the blockage of the sun.. but it isn't equipped to recognize the human. Likewise, I suspect we are in a similar situation where even our smartest minds and best scientifically advanced sensors are simply incapable of properly detecting these forms. Remember, the average age difference between planets in our galaxy is roughly 2 billion years... just imagine that an alien life 2 billion years older than humans have found easier ways to travel than little metal flying saucers. The question then may be if it's ever possible for us to sense these higher (plausibly extra dimensional) creatures. I suspect this will be a more fruitful direction to investigate rather than assuming we just happen to be the only exotic intelligent life in the galaxy.

Just a word of caution, 25g has a very strong chance of causing intense bloating. I'm part of multiple athletic teams, and the general consensus is that more than 10g is generally "uncomfortable" for its bloat pressure effects.

> "Showing off revenue and number of accounts is showing off a tiny portion of the picture"

Showing revenue is not "tiny" by any means. Considering that the vast majority of businesses hide this from the public, I think it's very notably "something larger than tiny".

How do you know this?
