Talk about your cultural bubbles.

The historicity of "same sex unions" of Roman emperors (Nero, Elagabalus) is debated. These claims may have been recorded to discredit those emperors.

There was no legal recognition of same sex marriages or unions in ancient Rome.

Can you just imagine that?

No this is not a plausible scenario.

"Stack said lawyers for the governor’s office determined that Panera doesn’t meet the standard for a business that “produces” bread “for sale on the establishment’s premises” because “many chain bakeries (such as Panera Bread) mix dough at centralized off-site locations and then ship that dough to their retail locations for baking and sale.”

1. They are claiming that because Panera generally mixes dough at central locations that they don't "produce" bread by baking it at the retail locations. It is not clear that this was their original intent and not a recently invented rationalization to obscure the connection to Panera.

2. The lawmakers that are calling for an investigation into the deal aren't the same lawmakers that write the deal are they?

3. The governor can obviously influence legislation including but not limited to his power to veto it.

Not sure why this is bad. Talent is equally distributed but opportunity is not. Consider there are 100 million white men in the US and 500 million women of color in Africa alone. There is no possible way for white men to compete!

Surely if Google does not hire where the talent really is then they will be defeated by many new Googles that will emerge from the incredibly diverse countries of Africa alone!

Are you also aghast about Tupac?

Oh my this rapping is outrageous! Mr. Tupac pull up your pants and clean up your language young man!

And Gary isn’t a rap artist anyway!

Well isn’t he?

You received two quotes and you assess US developers are 16x more expensive than European developers? I assess your venture is not likely to succeed.
"After a conversation with dang last month, the path forward remains unclear."

He said it's not working at least twice and asked you to stop.

edit: After all of the comments say stop, the path forward remains unclear.

Nah not all felons are creeps probably most aren't.
No you're not funny stop it. But if I'm not funny then am I just boring? Yes. Still stop.
"in... recovery" "drank the chemicals beneath the sink" "stuck a fork in a light socket" "tried a Tide Pod" "Hi mom, (very dead; very sad)" wtf!

You think this is funny, but you sound like a nut. If you're convinced you're actually actually funny, go try stand up. Good luck.

If you are actually autistic like you say, that would explain why you don't get it.

Just cut that out. You can't really afford to turn people off when oh yeah I'm also a felon.

edit: "My next stop is retail, if I can even pass a background check." The actual crime you were convicted of is some kind of fraud like "§1030. Fraud and related activity in connection with computers" isn't it? No you're not going to pass a background check for like anything with a fraud conviction.

There are a lot of vagrants in San Francisco because they can do basically whatever they want.

Couldn’t tell if this is satire. Love it.
Guys can we keep quite about this please. Yesterday the party line was it was outrageous to suggest a company could keep money in more than one bank and or in treasuries. Have you no empathy?
"Putting your series A check into a fucking bank isn’t a risky financial strategy."

You still think that's true? Clearly it is a risk. And that risk can and should be managed. Even now! There is no law that says the FDIC has to pay uninsured depositors of the next failed bank.

You think no companies split their funds among several banks and short-term US treasury instruments?

Those companies didn't worry about closing this weekend.

Beware of fine arts museums.
Up to 4,000 IU is generally recognized as safe. If you take a multivitamin, there is some in that that you should subtract.

Is the problem that the photo is cropped from a woman who is nude or that the woman is beautiful or that a photo of a woman would be used at all?

I watched the documentary produced by the campaign Losing Lena (https://www.facebook.com/codelikeagirlau/videos/985614161797...) here are the complaints:

1) Female student says high school students made jokes about the photo and made her feel that women were made to be a joke

2) Female researcher says when the photo goes up on a screen "everyone laughs.... well not everyone"

3) Female math professor says the photo symbolizes the role women played in technology: "beautiful young woman in the photograph not the one doing the coding"

Re:Ask HN: I Need to Talk to Someone on Monday February 20, 2023 @11:11PM (#34876451)
As those links state, to enlist in the military he would need to be a lawful permanent resident and in that case he wouldn't need to enlist in the military.

And if his wife were a permanent resident, he would also qualify to be a permanent resident.

Re:Ask HN: I Need to Talk to Someone on Monday February 20, 2023 @03:33PM (#34872558)
I'm not sure how posting a bunch of links that say you have to be a lawful permanent resident support your case that you don't have to be a lawful permanent resident. You think this guy just accidentally forgot he's a lawful permanent resident and got a H1B?

No there isn't a way for an H1B to join the military.

Re:Ask HN: I Need to Talk to Someone on Monday February 20, 2023 @02:19PM (#34871665)
You can't join the military as a non-immigrant alien except for very narrow circumstances [1] for people who have had valid visa status for two years and have specific language skills [2] or medical qualifications. Requires 4 years of active duty for language candidates.

edit: Actually it looks like this program was suspended years ago and hasn't resumed.

Just in case you are not aware: If your spouse is able to get an I-140 approved, you will be granted unrestricted employment authorization.

Assuming are a male and your spouse a female, you are quite right to be concerned that not working for the several years is not likely going to go well.

Why not use the remaining time on your H1B to work a temporary job?

Try another country? Not all of the 8 billion people of earth get to stay here.

Aside from the usual countries people consider, you can get citizenship in Mexico after 5 years (working remotely?) and then work in the US on the TN visa. A lot of Mexico is really nice. Many US citizens move there.

"That comment is just saying you can understand the changes empathetically"

That's not what they mean when they say empathy. They misuse empathy when they mean compassion.

I think they do it because even they understand it's indecent to say they pity all of these people.

empathy: The ability to identify with or understand another's situation or feelings

compassion: Deep awareness of the suffering of another accompanied by the wish to relieve it.

Re:Honest guide to Vanlife in Japan after a year on Wednesday February 08, 2023 @12:51AM (#34704630)
The comment you "called out": "Just use a water bottle like the rest of us! I lived out of an Explorer for 3 months, not once did an adult diaper cross my mind."

I love how you're pedantically rationalizing "calling them out" on this one word "just" and ignoring the subject is people living in their vehicles (for 3 months in the case of the comment you "called out" and indefinitely in the case of the original blog post).

Everyone is talking about habitual practices including and especially the comment you "called out."

Instead of habitually using adult diapers, habitually JUST using a bottle is easy. Acquiring a suitably sized funnel from an auto, hardware or outdoor store for people who live in their cars who clearly have transportation, have a lot of time on their hands and frequent these stores anyway is an insignificant consideration.

There is no bottle related sex inequity to fight here.

And why do you, as a former LGBTQI+ director, keep referring to funnel-using-persons as women or wives? Tisk tisk. Thankfully what you say is representative of your own viewpoints and beliefs and not those of your employer! Maybe someone should call you out!
