Maybe compilers? instead of using them to make 1950s software faster, we used the abstraction they created to build vastly more complex systems like operating systems, browsers, cloud platforms, and modern games. AI could be another jump in abstraction, making software possible that would previously have been too expensive or complicated to build.
I've been watching GPT_Plays_Games on twitch and with Astra now it can beat pretty much all of them with very few mistakes, with vision only. One downside is that when pathfinding it can only plan high level paths, wait for result, then try again if it fails. Its a ~10-30 second loop.
Has anyone tried a combined LLM + Jev? So the LLM directs the high level goal ("reach the door of the pokemon center while avoiding NPCs") then allow it to instruct Jev to do the actual movements? That seems like a good balance between the high-level, slow planning of the LLM to the fast but limited Jev. That kind of mirrors how humans work too. The harness could even allow Jev to delegate back to the LLM when it doesn't have a confident answer.
Its almost like when humans drive, we kind of let our subconscious take over once we know where to go. But if we see something unexpected in the road, we can go back to a conscious planning mode to decide what to do.

> LLMs are really only capable of combining different things into output
> The magic and absurdity of life is a necessary thing to create such works.
These two points seem slightly conflicting. Why if a human is truly more creative than AI, must it experience "the magic and absurdity of life" if it can be creative without "combining things into output"? Is a creative human then just not splicing and recombining their experiences into their creative output? And therefore, if an AI had more data that mirrors that experience in some way would it be sufficiently creative to create something "truly original"?
My view is that intelligence and creativity is all just purely recombination. AI can do that well just as humans can. The gap is that the data humans have access to is much more analogue, emotional, and grounded in the real world compared to the data that AI is currently trained on.
The irony is that beef and cattle feed use vastly more water than oat milk production. Oat milk would help reduce water use if its used as a substitute for dairy.
By that logic, 'Basque', 'Cantonese', 'Cajun', and 'Tex-Mex' shouldn't exist either
> why have mechanical keyboards become so damn popular and not "keyboards on screens?"
I mean... have you ever used a phone?
This reads a bit like like a pre-PC take: "Why use a computer when a cookbook works fine?"
Imagine it’s 1992:
Cookbook: Open book, follow steps.
PC: Turn on tower, wait for DOS, fiddle with floppies, pray the printer works, hope the shareware recipe isn’t weird.
Not saying you're wrong but its easy to miss the big picture
I tried for a while to get ChatGPT to generate connections style puzzles with some suggested topics, including red herrings to create some answers that seemingly fit in multiple categories. Then it would post them to
https://connections.swellgarfo.com/. Overall they were really bad but that was using GPT4
just record as mp4 in the first place, gif has limited colour palette, low frame rate and poor compression
Yes I'd bet most users just 50/50 it, which actually makes it more remarkable that there was a 56% selection rate
Playlists allow spotify to create a moat. It encourages you to listen to (and build) playlists, that wouldn't then be easily available if you try to switch platforms
It just needs a little hint
Me: spell "strawberry" with 1 bullet point per letter
ChatGPT:

A
W

Y
Me: How many Rs?
ChatGPT: There are three Rs in "strawberry".
Apple delivers ads (for e.g. Apple Music) in the Settings app of iPhone. Wouldn't be surprised if macOS ends up with similar things.
Well, my point was made in reference to the original comment which said
> If consciousness is not well understood, how is AI on silicon allowed, or any computing machines at all
Which implies that we should care about some kind of suffering inflicted on conscious beings. My argument was that we don't care about AI suffering because we don't really care that much about suffering generally, because of what we chose to do to animals.
How can you stop that? An intelligent AI will send emails, create companies, hire people, and literally anything else you can do digitally in order to create means by which it can manifest itself into meatspace.
No display, 2 cameras, much thinner form factor
Maybe unrelated, but I think some people do this to check (at least partially) what email is tied to an account. E.g. if you suspect an anonymous instagram user to be your friend Bob, you can invoke the reset email procedure to see
We sent an email to bo****@gm***.com
Which gives you a hint
not really
marbles = (BlackMarble() for _ in range(random.randint(0, 10)))
all(isinstance(m, BlackMarble) for m in marbles)
Surely should always be true
Agree, if anyone knows themes that make this better I'd love to know
The point is that Mark's vision is much more social... The most Apple showed was FaceTime but with added 3D on their avatar. There's so much missed opportunity here for true spatial social interaction that Apple avoided
There's a small but passionate group of VR enthusiasts, more so than most other consumer tech categories in my experience
Of course every one has been wrong. If they were right, you wouldn't be here talking about it. It shouldn't be surprising that everyone has been wrong before
Disabling updates in a recipe for malware - you can remove the search bar in 4 clicks.
Or more likely, ask ChatGPT to simplify it.
Give it access to a Python repl, show it how to send HTTP requests, how to take look at images of webpages if it needs to, and how to spawn new instances of itself - give it a budget and tell it to make money for you.
The other aspect is latency, even streaming from a wired ethernet connection to a wifi phone or tablet makes platformers especially feel frustrating to play
If you try the tool you'll see there's some UI around building out specific sections with some small details that you offer
