Re:The $6.3B Binance Hack Was Pulled Off in Just 20 Minutes on Saturday October 31, 2026 @03:05AM (#50313883)
tried to watch the latest season, was put off by this and gave up.
problem is, i don't care about the extra storage at all.

my whole family of 5 people is using in total 160 GB. personally I use about 15 GB

i can't access reddit through nordvpn
seems like a stretch, especially when you could choose from 10 of them if u feel they're dropping off.

Also, it's not like you're running any full models on local without shelling out 20k+

isn't it the same using the same model you host locally but through a cloud provider? does the $ math favour a local setup then?

> Freedom gives you the ability to get hurt, are we afraid of that?

A very large percentage of society I suspect is afraid of that and would happily give away freedom for safety. Eliza's argument does make sense, a dictator without an "ego", or at least not one like a human would have would be more trustworthy, especially when it had the option to force itself a lot more than it did but it didn't.

Brawn was not done away with, a smaller percentage of the population is needed for it but, according to gemini 4, construction / mechanics etc account for 29.1%, heavy and very heavy work is about 7%
Re:Ofcom Concedes Defeat in the 4chan Case on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @11:24AM (#50167817)
It's about honor, I remember Saddam Hussein saying that after they held against the US for 40 days they "won" the war, because in their culture when a higher power entity goes against a weaker one, it is without honor and the weaker entity "wins" honor by being able to defend for that long.
Re:Linux 7.3 Released on Monday October 19, 2026 @04:49AM (#50149983)
idk if it's just me but deliberately using "yu" instead of "you" is annoying and makes me not really take whatever you say seriously
recent reveals show that OAI and Anthropic give users the ability to go around bot protections or they internally use it?
Re:Gold is now the top U.S. export on Saturday October 17, 2026 @03:59PM (#50134528)
How does holding gold protect from devaluation? No one has currency backed by gold any more.
> when the bubble bursts, and it will, we will suddenly be left with millions of people thoroughly deskilled who will be useless. lots of reeducation needed, and lots of people will just be left behind.

what do you mean by this, that costs will become too high and people won't afford it? hardware won't go up in smoke "when the bubble bursts"

maybe collapse in valuation, collapse in demand? I don't see that happening any time soon, it's too useful, idk how anyone can contest it is useful and not just hype.
what use are 0-days to private cybersecurity companies?
most people who care about legality don't work in that field either. whoever gets into this probably starts by being ok with doing shady stuff, I imagine.
Why would OAI or anthropic care to steal your Todo app with 10k of revenue a month when they are spending billions?

At their scale I'd expect it to be only worth stealing potential home runs and even so, imagine they did this a couple of times, how would that make them look? Do you think it would be worth the bad blood and mass exodus that would follow?

Re:How to head into VR without wearing a headset on Saturday October 10, 2026 @04:16PM (#50036700)
Look I'm not perfect, I doom scroll quite a bit, play video games but compared to what you are saying apparently I'm only smoking cigarettes when others are on an IV of heroin.
Re:How to head into VR without wearing a headset on Saturday October 10, 2026 @10:43AM (#50033495)
but they sleep with their eyes closed right? I mean I can maybe understand the body tracking in the VR world but why in the world would I keep the headset on if my eyes are closed?

> “Some days he’s in VR more than he’s out of it. He’d even try to sleep there, but the headset made it hard to get comfortable.”

ah, truly a problem that needs to be fixed.

wth does it even mean to "sleep in VR"?

software businesses are not like watches (recently saw a youtube video about fakes being made virtually identical at 10% of the price).

If you can make a facebook clone it doesn't mean you can steal facebook's lunch. there are exceptions of course.

It's like asking a budding pro basketball player to.. go study machine learning
Re:What should we tell our students? on Thursday October 08, 2026 @11:09PM (#50015528)
Then what? math, the kind LLMs are making "obsolete" is a pursuit unlike any other. What other field would tickle the kind of mind attracted by math the same way? I doubt they went into it for the money.
Re:ADHD, autism or complex trauma? [pdf] on Saturday October 03, 2026 @06:26PM (#49948388)
If you find a bug in your code does it matter who is to blame? Is it useful to remember you had a fight with your wife the day you committed it?

Does a car mechanic need a video of the crash to fix the car?

Re:ADHD, autism or complex trauma? [pdf] on Saturday October 03, 2026 @04:46PM (#49947603)
Why are you sure it's really helpful for some people?

Before psychology you had religion, even in the oldest form of Christianity, orthodoxy, you are not too dwell on the past, not to blaim others.

I doubt it really truly helps anyone to dig up the past

Re:SvelteKit 3 Is Here on Thursday October 01, 2026 @10:50PM (#49929387)
tutorials are probably less than 0.1% of the training data compared to actual code, or you mean average project is influenced by basic tutorials?
Re:Gemini 4 Argon on Thursday October 01, 2026 @03:00PM (#49925710)
There's a lot of AI hate these predictions aren't taking into account
Re:The AI Race Just Got Awkward on Thursday October 01, 2026 @11:15AM (#49922802)
You may be right but you are speculating as much as I or anyone on this topic.

I find it hard to believe the decision to open source any chinese model wasn't approved or heavily considered by the CCP.

Re:The AI Race Just Got Awkward on Thursday October 01, 2026 @02:06AM (#49918234)
That the CCP doesn't have input in this, which is the most important tech in history, which could be more dangerous than even nukes, is naive.

Maybe because there is enough given away that there's a lot of competition they may let other companies do whatever they want but to think the CCP isn't managing this is insane to me

Re:When did Google get so f-ing weird? on Sunday September 27, 2026 @06:45PM (#49871573)
While it does feel that LLMs have been here forever let's not forget we're only 4 years in, this tech is pretty new and I assume Google is trying to heavily optimize it and cut costs in order to justify serving it for free.

I don't find this disturbing, I find it funny.

just ask the agent to write it up if you don't have time to do a write-up yourself
