Re:AI Isn't Replacing SREs. It's Deskilling Them on Saturday October 31, 2026 @04:20AM (#50314150)
Not deskilling all of us. Some of us with greybeards are immune to the hype train.

Root-cause analysis suggests blaming the monopolists hogging all the silicon fab.

37PPD is triple the Index’s density.

What in the world are you using as your benchmark to call 37 “dogshit”?

Waylon and the Duke boys were “straightenin’ the curves” and “flattenin’ the hills.”

You were close, though. :)

The musical number I recall best was a medley mash-up of the Bridal Chorus and the Funeral March.

Apparently it’s called “Twang” or “Tenlem” depending on the port. I had the DOS version: https://youtu.be/Z2zN6ljRNnU?t=3523 (timestamped)

Re:Spain Orders Blocks on Archive.today and Its Mirrors on Sunday September 20, 2026 @04:07AM (#49773628)
There’s a whole network of “archive.<something>” sites under the “archive.today” umbrella. I’ve seen .is .ps .md .ph and .at, at least.
Guess what high-frequency trading is.

I learned to type `ls` properly the first time, every time, shortly after installing `sl`.

Yeah, it just pushes the ones with the tendency to do it themselves.

I got my Claude (client, not Code) to behave better by adding “I’d prefer answers to be succinct as possible—bordering on gruff, even. When I want more depth or explanation, I’ll ask.” to its settings literally this morning.

It made it write more like a dev than a marketing agent.

Yes.

The right wing doesn’t want to run the government, they want to occupy it so it doesn’t run except to enrich themselves.

What if I told you there’s an existing protocol for doing Really Simple Syndication?
It can’t be destroying evidence if there’s no case or charge being pressed for which that material would be evidence.

“Entering the country while in possession of a device storing binary data” isn’t a crime.

It’s been pretty flimsy armor lately.

What’s the equivalent term for “safety” that’s used by others?
Re:Em dashes are fucking amazing on Friday July 24, 2026 @10:12AM (#49035952)
Chicago does it one way and AP does it the other.

I definitely prefer it un-spaced, though, personally.

Re:LAPD lets contract with surveillance giant Flock expire on Wednesday July 15, 2026 @07:55PM (#48928789)
At no point did (or will) I defend the surveillance state.
Paintballs are even better, environmentally and effort-wise.

Especially if the propellant tank is pressurized using a solar powered compressor.

(Theoretically, of course. I wouldn’t advocate destroying private property.)

Re:My Favorite Keyboards on Thursday July 02, 2026 @02:15PM (#48765352)
My default layout has function keys as basically an "fn" key plus the appropriate number. I thought I was going to miss the dedicated keys way more than I do in practice.

If I were starting from scratch, and really had a function-key-centric workflow, I'd probably make the number keys (and - and + for F11 and F12 respectively) be tap-and-hold for that function key input.

I love my moonlander, don't get me wrong, but I've also recently gotten a RealForce R3, and I love it, too. Very nice for a daily driver work keeb.
Not within the given time period. Only two there.
What if I told you that prison is also corporal punishment?

That was two $500/mo servers, not $2500/mo.
