AI companies aren't valued on the GPUs they own.

It worked that way in Russia too. Some people managed to quickly consolidate those shares by exploiting the economic hardship of the people caused by the fall of the USSR by hoovering up those shares for Kopecks on the Rubel, and that's where the current day oligarchy was formed.
This is subjective, but I think this image wasn't uncommon in US-aligned countries either, but at least this seems to have changed in the last decade or so.
Or the Indonesian genocide. Or giving Pol Pot diplomatic cover as soon as they saw him as an enemy to Vietnam. Or couping essentially every country in Latin America.

The "policeman" narrative has always been propaganda.

Those are not at all mutually exclusive. In fact, both of those characteristics make up most of the Silicon Valley oligarchy.
And incidentally, believing that you can keep making a good ROI even if it's not true is what fuels a bubble.

Sure, but you don't live on it

They can do what they want, but from a user perspective they should be doing something else. Seems like a perfectly fine way to use that word to me.

It's the view off the Warschauer Bridge in Berlin, nobody actually lives there.
What an interesting way to phrase things when the US is responsible for much more suffering and unrest outside of it's own borders. Including the current situation in Russia, come to think of it.

Thank you

4 seconds of attention is not particularly impressive!

The Chess world championship has an Open section and a Women's section. The Open section is open to every gender.

But it's a fair assumption considering how Kasparov treated Polgar.

This directly involves Chinese citizens and the Chinese consulate, and diplomatic immunity exists everywhere.

The US is sanctioning a foreign court over actions that do not even involve the US itself. There is no comparison here.

> It's absurd that I cannot pay cashless without using American companies

The infrastructure for it exists with instant SEPA transfers, and Wero is slowly developing into a useful system for retail payments, but without the EU mandating that banks and retailers must support it alongside Visa it will take a while for meaningful penetration to happen.

Where?
If that's what it takes for Americans to start caring about the harm their military is inflicting on the world, sure.
There's actually more than one line in the comment you're replying to.

I don't think people "in general" refer to games as "solved" or "not solved" at all. Among people who do, chess and go are definitely not referred to as (fully) solved.

There's a reason the owning class is almost always pushing the same kind of narrative, and the reason is that it's serving them, not people at large.

> But it feels like if you were to go to Russia and slowly and loudly say "I-ski want-ski a-ski table-ski".

As much as it may feel that way sometimes, I don't think IKEAs in foreign countries are sovereign Swedish territory.

Who is saying that? And by acknowledging that the land was bought pre-war you're also acknowledging that the (explicitly colonial) Zionist project pre-dates the Holocaust. So it has nothing to do with "nowadays", that was more than 100 years ago.
Similar to apartheid South Africa's with more returning of ancestrally owned land I reckon.
Re:AI agent hacks gym to get its user a spot in pilates class on Wednesday August 12, 2026 @03:44AM (#49269032)
Is it even possible to "hack" an API that has no authorisation for any of its methods?
That would hopefully be a world where every house casually hires 50 burglars to make their house burgle-proof.

Google? Microsoft? AWS?
Huh, not sure where I got the 86 number from, because I did check a primary source. Probably a mixup with a later number that included annexed territory.

Germany's population in 1938 was higher. Around 86 million.
Re:15 years later, Microsoft morged my diagram on Wednesday February 18, 2026 @07:46AM (#47060409)
It's indicative of how little Microsoft cares in addition to the issue of plagiarism. Which shouldn't be a surprise to anyone who's had to read Microsoft documentation recently.
I'd argue that "assumptions", i.e. the statistical models it uses to predict text, is basically what makes LLMs useful. The problem here is that its assumptions are naive. It only takes the distance into account, as that's what usually determines the correct response to such a question.
