I remember FSP seeming to have a more "underground" vibe to it. This was right after migrating from BBS to "Shell Account". Shortly after every noob was told: "FtP to 127.0.0.1 for l33t w4R3Z!", and then the gobsmacked horror as you were loooking at your own home directory. laf.

I always was testing the different transfer protocols, always appreciating sysops who installed rather obscure protocols like jmodem, MPT110, zmodem-mobyturbo and god now I can't remember some of the weirder ones. ymodem-G had a soft spot because well it was gangstah lol.

Our economy is an abstract intangible system which requires infinite growth and debt issuance, this in reality requires more caloric expenditure and resource consumption. Thermodynamically this is pretty bad news. At one point the see-saw is gonna tip the other way, then it might cool off for a spell.
This happens on some HP printers too, the web interface lets you happily enter lengthy passwords, but doesn't bother telling you it truncated the entry at 16 or 12 characters.

You remember when Micro Center had those portraits of computer greats hanging around the ceiling of their stores? I never noticed it until I looked up one day and saw Denis Ritchie, Vint Cerf, Grace Hopper, etc. The local Micro Center was re-done and I can't remember seeing the portraits, but this guy could be a candidate for a Micro Center banner.

A cat named Jacques Ellul would probably call your addiction a technique. And it's definitely fleshed out in his book.

Pretty prescient stuff!
