In the end, it all leads to advertising. This is just the basic business model in the US/World right now. Get enough eyeballs on your product, whether it's TV, social media, AI, the ditch on the side of the highway; then monetize it with ads. I don't understand why at this point anyone is surprised that a company like Disney would put ads every possible place, even their highest tier of streaming.

"But I specifically chose the highest option so I wouldn't see ads!" well, now you have the option to pay the highest tier to see less ads. For now. By paying for the highest tier, Disney knows you are a higher quality consumer with the most disposable income of all the users on that platform; that's exactly the users Disney can charge the most for advertising spend. From an exec's standpoint, why wouldn't you? sure, they'll lose some paying customers, but will probably make more in the short term at least, which is all that matters.

Re:My BC-250 Journey (With 40 CUs Unlocked) on Thursday September 03, 2026 @04:29PM (#49556448)
I have one of these and it has been a fantastic project, and a solid steam machine stand in. Great for emulation and even some recent games. Not mentioned in the post but it is a repurposed PS5 APU. the 8 cpu core unlock that just became available seems to get you an additional 10fps.
I bought an Oura ring just to track my sleep, but after a couple weeks stopped using it because I didn't trust or get any value from the data. Nights that I tossed and turned and was up multiple times would score highly. Nights where I slept great and woke up refreshed, the Oura would say I would need to take it easy and recovery due to poor sleep.

We need this for Korg and Roland synths
It's not about contributing to the conversation — it's about the fake internet points.
Re:SpaceX says it has agreement to acquire Cursor for $60B on Wednesday April 22, 2026 @09:16AM (#47863165)
I expect Cursor passes nearly every cent it collects on to Anthropic and OpenAI

Same goes with Starship Troopers - Clearly biting satire, but at the time was considered to be a dumb action movie by most.
Re:Steam on Linux Use Skyrocketed Above 5% in March on Saturday April 04, 2026 @08:31AM (#47638481)
living room gaming PC Mobo died and was looking at $400 min to rebuild. I jumped on the BC-250 craze, which is a very capable bitcoin miner based on the PS5. installed Bazzite and it's been great.
Such a long, long article breaking down the rise and fall of human computer interaction (GUIs/WIMP) and the future of AI interfaces; yet no mention of command line interfaces or NLP seems like quite an omission, especially since this is kinda how we're interfacing with AI currently.
We have 3 Switches in the household that have held up remarkably well to daily abuse. I've repaired little things here and there like the joy-con connector rails becoming loose. My 8 year old drops his many times a week. They're affordable and kid proof.

That being said, I can't imagine handing him a $500 Switch 2. Strangely no one in my household has any interest in the new switch, which I am thankful for.

I have never tried AGS, but I cut my game making teeth on Klick and Play and RPG maker back in the day. I think I was intimidated by the amount of art and the level of story telling needed to craft an adventure game. I wish there was a mac version of this, since I refuse to go near windows at this point.
Yes! my love for The Excavation of Hob’s Barrow is what led me to AGS.
Re:Microsoft Office renamed to "Microsoft 365 Copilot app" on Monday January 05, 2026 @08:32AM (#46498545)
I hope every publication uses Microsoft Copilot (formerly Office) for years, like they did for X (formerly Twitter).
Hopefully I'll have enough time to make a proper sequel to 'Wreck it Ralph' before it gets shut down due to the obvious risks.
Re:YouTube Just Ate TV. It's Only Getting Started on Monday October 27, 2025 @10:15AM (#45721262)
We're going back to discs. Rerouting a fraction of the money we spent on streaming services buys a lot of DVDs/BluRays. Plus it stopped the brain rot dead in its tracks. The family TV was turning into a constant stream of YT shorts AI voices non-stop talk shouting over 3 vids of brainrot.

I own the tv, yet have no way of just blocking yt shorts, or even easily blocking the YT app on the tv. So YT is blocked at the router level.

edit: a word

Can I just say that it is fantastic that they have included so many detailed pictures of the obelisk. How many times have you visited an article about a discovery only to have no pictures in the article.
Soon you won't be able to tell the difference between AI generated and 'real' content, since the 'real' content will be all processed by AI automatically. Quality in -> Garbage out.
So happy that this masterpiece was finally located so it can be sold in an auction to a private collector. What a win for the humanities.
This article is a bit sensationalized and filled with inaccuracies.

> Title: "Their Songs Were Stolen by Phantom Artists. They Couldn’t Get Them Back." - They got them back. Pretty quickly too.

> "the name of the company that had uploaded the songs. It was Warner Music, one of the big three labels." - Warner did not upload the music, it was the individual that downloaded the songs from the band's soundcloud.

The artists uploaded their songs to Soundcloud. Someone else then took their songs and uploaded them to a distribution aggregator (Level) with different artist name and titles. When they tried to make a CD, the CD printer checked the content and was flagged. They sent takedown notices and got the pirated versions of their songs removed after a couple weeks.

You had to pay for the monthly service, as well as PURCHASE the games. I was an early adopter and when I realized this was the business model I knew it was not going to succeed. $10/mo + $60 for a game, and as soon as I stop paying for the service I can't access my purchased game anymore.
Re:World Population Estimated at 8 Billion on Friday November 10, 2023 @12:29PM (#38221715)
According to Bunker by Bradley Garrett, the Mormon's are extensive preppers and have supplies for more than the population of Salt Lake City underground. So if there is a worldwide catastrophe, this prediction may come true.
Call me crazy, but I was expecting a Nintendo Switch / Steam Deck form factor.
> In the 1980s, documentary filmmaker Errol Morris attempted to shoot a documentary about the town, but after he received death threats and was beaten up by the Marine veteran son of a Nub Club member, he turned his movie into a slice of life documentary about the eccentric residents of the town entitled in a film called Vernon, Florida.

I've seen the documentary, and it's fine - I enjoyed it. But, to imagine what it could have been if it was about what was really going on there.

Re:Nintendo demoed Switch 2 to developers at Gamescom on Thursday September 07, 2023 @10:34AM (#37419492)
> One Switch 2 demo is a souped up version of Switch launch title Zelda: Breath of the Wild, designed to hit the Switch 2's beefier target specs. (To be clear, though - this is just a tech demo. There's no suggestion the game will be re-released.)

This is Nintendo. They'll re-release it.

1000 times, yes. I also couldn’t sleep with CPAP. I tried about 3 different mouth pieces (and tongue extensions that looked like pacifiers) until settling on one that also had a strip that held my tongue down - which was a total game changer.
Re:Glykon, was an ancient snake god on Wednesday July 19, 2023 @12:14PM (#36788804)
I learned about this god from Adventure Time, of all places.

https://adventuretime.fandom.com/wiki/Life

Recent excavations of what archeologists are calling the 'McDonald's temple' indicate that it may have been a place of creating food offering's for rituals to their god of death 'The Grimace' and their trickster god, 'The Hamburgler'.
Poor Ronald, not even invited to Grimace’s party. IT really did a number on Mcdonald’s branding.
Re:Apple Introduces M2 Ultra on Monday June 05, 2023 @02:54PM (#36201279)
great, I can't wait to buy a new Mac Air with the most powerful consumer chip ever made paired with 8gb ram and 128g HD.

Note: I have a M1 Air that I love, best computer I've ever owned.
