Re:WTF Ubuntu? on Tuesday November 03, 2026 @02:06AM (#50348973)
Which makes it more people actually working on Ubuntu than most other distros.
Re:WTF Ubuntu? on Tuesday November 03, 2026 @02:05AM (#50348965)
Look dude, let's get something straight: just because someone didn't jump on command for that one patch you suddenly care about out of the blue, doesn't mean they're LARPing on anything.

If you want to dismiss other people's work like that, have at least some decency to provide a track record beyond "they didn't do what I wanted REEEEEEE!!!!" type response.

Re:WTF Ubuntu? on Tuesday November 03, 2026 @01:58AM (#50348927)
So it's indeed "trust me bro!".
Re:WTF Ubuntu? on Monday November 02, 2026 @03:50PM (#50343512)
Who demonstrated getting root with it? The last I've seen was "trust me bro".
Unfortunately "gameplay" wasn't why the franchise was popular or bought by their fans.
Re:Patrick Stewart taught us what good men do with power on Sunday November 01, 2026 @04:57PM (#50330345)
What? Like his main character shtick is that he's a selfish asshole that will abuse his workers on a whim.

How do you watch that show and not notice that he's supposed to be the worlds worst, selfish, narcissist ?

Re:Patrick Stewart taught us what good men do with power on Sunday November 01, 2026 @04:45PM (#50330220)
I believe you somehow managed to miss the basic idea and storytelling approach of Science Fiction as a genre.
Re:Patrick Stewart taught us what good men do with power on Sunday November 01, 2026 @04:44PM (#50330211)
It suggests nothing of sort.
Re:Patrick Stewart taught us what good men do with power on Sunday November 01, 2026 @01:53PM (#50328480)
Works of fiction are critical to understanding the society in which they're made and interpreted.
Re:Patrick Stewart taught us what good men do with power on Sunday November 01, 2026 @01:52PM (#50328469)
Sir Stewart has also repeatedly shown his personal politics to be pretty in line with what the show shows. So it's fine either way.
Re:Zero click, silent, remote Android DoS on Thursday October 29, 2026 @12:23PM (#50291598)
This has very little in common with Stagefright. Most importantly: Stagefright was vulnerable to arbitrary media being sent in arbitrary apps.

This requires carrier to cooperate.

Re:Zero click, silent, remote Android DoS on Thursday October 29, 2026 @12:22PM (#50291569)
They could just... take down the mobile network without having to go through the hassle of bricking your phone individually.

And it's not that hard, bring down a VPN or some core routing service.

Re:Zero click, silent, remote Android DoS on Thursday October 29, 2026 @12:21PM (#50291552)
The carrier? You mean the company that actually routes and controls the emergency calls and other calls this DDoSes? And routes and controls all your data transfer and owns the cell towers?

How do you make calls without trusting them?

Re:Valve Responds to Developers Fearing AI Slop and Clones on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @11:58AM (#50275835)
No, I think the problem is that the person writing that:

- Has grown up and doesn't actually want to play games anymore (without realizing it)

- Is severely depressed and needs other help than the one games can provide.

This is literally some security people crying wolf until everyone just stops listening to them.
Re:The Mythical Man-Month in the Age of AI on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @01:39PM (#50262814)
Funny how "maybe they work in different domain" doesn't come up here as well.

When y'all talk about these LLM programmers, what are they programming? The next startup Typescript website, a new OS, a C++ firmware for a fridge or a control system for cancer treatment machines?

Re:Lula wins election after final votes tallied on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @03:11AM (#50255583)
You're mixing up cause and effect - the short term limits cause a different, less people culty, governance.
I'm not dismissing people, I'm dismissing your poorly thought out opinion.

This is what a discussion is - and besides me not liking it, it's also flawed and dismissive of people.

Twitter lost 80% of the value for their shareholders so what the heck are you on about man?
You sound like you don't really know much about teams and leadership.

Getting rid of your best means you'll also make sure that the rest of them slowly, but surely leave and never come back. Good people will not work with average people which results in long term failure to compete for the company.

There's a reason why all tech industry leaders have focused on getting a *consistent* and *even* pool of good workers to establish themselves there (against wisdom of the MBA crowd you're repeating here).

Exactly, this prevents personality cults and power hoarding.
Saying Hungary hasn't changed has to be the biggest lie I've seen in a while.
Re:C vs. C#: racing VLC's Gaussian blur on Sunday October 25, 2026 @08:26AM (#50230824)
What glass effects would VLC render in the video?
Re:Danish Government silently drops plan to dump MS Office on Sunday October 25, 2026 @03:38AM (#50229203)
Which doesn't change the fact that you need a corporate entity to be there to actually deploy and maintain the software you're pushing - and for a longer time than a few months before you get bored.
Re:Full Disk Encryption on Fedora with TPM2 on Saturday October 24, 2026 @07:00PM (#50226315)
Does this still prevent hibernation from working?
Re:Danish Government silently drops plan to dump MS Office on Saturday October 24, 2026 @03:43PM (#50224426)
This. I've been around these kind of pushes in my part oif EU for a long time and the reality is: there's a lot of talk and demands and not many people signing up for tenders, development or maintenance work.

The opinion is that "the public workers don't need it" for every feature missing in Linux or LibreOffice. I can only imagine how a fight to upstream such features would look like even if someone took on a support contract.

With Microsoft at least the governments get shared fate with large corpos who also need enterprise features.

They might even subcontract the same while label app company for their banking app, meaning that you get the same app every time with different logos.
Wow, that makes Google products seem supported for ever.
My government does it a lot.
No, you misunderstood the point of the poster and decided to bloviate about unrelated things.
