News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

Jumping in on this without knowing anything about the business model, but why not just ask all of the drivers to pay $35 (for example) one time to do a bg check / insurance check?
Re:Show HN: User-owned image sharing on Saturday March 15, 2014 @06:55PM (#7406887)
I think you have a really good idea. I also agree that a lot of users would use an image sharing site if they know potentially they could make some money instead of none.

There are some really good points brought up in this thread, that I think you are going to have to battle against. Maybe not as severe as Popcorn just faced but these are issue.

Internet Explorer 9 or newer is required.

Couldn't help but laugh.

Re:How I Lost My $50,000 Twitter Username on Wednesday January 29, 2014 @01:23AM (#7142291)
It is a long shot, and would take ton of money in fees mainly for a very skilled private investigator but you are absolutely correct this is one route to go.
Re:How I Lost My $50,000 Twitter Username on Wednesday January 29, 2014 @01:13AM (#7142261)
I value any company's committment to security however there are ways that Twitter can prove who the owner of the account was, if they really wanted to.

Let's see if this story hits real news headlines and affects Twitters stock before closing bell tomorrow and action will happen.

Re:The Great Code Club on Tuesday January 28, 2014 @02:48AM (#7135931)
This seems like a nifty idea. I have definitely been plagued with coders block in the past.
Re:Google Glass Now Works With Actual Glasses on Tuesday January 28, 2014 @02:46AM (#7135923)
that's what is bothering me. could never figure it out from a UX perspective, but that is definitely it.

thanks for doing this, I love your site in general and have seen it before in the past. particularly the Tumblr post!
Re:How Quora Onboards New Users on Wednesday January 22, 2014 @05:30PM (#7105838)
As a user, I find Quora to be weird and confusing. The sign up process was like a labyrinth, and trying to figure out how to use it is quite cumbersome.
Re:The decay and fall of guest blogging for SEO on Monday January 20, 2014 @11:16PM (#7093396)
I think a lot of companies are scared of how good hackers are these days. No one wants to guarantee protection because a hacker of a more elite variety will come along and take that as a challenge, by hacking into the sites that X company has created.

I definitely agree with you that it is somewhat of an under tapped market, but definitely think it needs to be head up by the right individual(s).

Re:What's Inside This House On Wade Avenue? on Saturday January 18, 2014 @04:46AM (#7080634)
We had this in the town I grew up in, only it was a house with the "mechanical room" for our water tower. People broke in all the time.
almost seems as though they (or maybe some of them) are somewhat ok with the message.
Re:We stopped advertising on Facebook on Friday January 10, 2014 @04:47PM (#7039727)
I agree with a lot of this, and sure no one goes out looking for a plumber on Facebook but Faceboook advertising really does work. Tons of case studies show that it is extremely effective especially with CPCs < $.10 and such.

Re:Best Linux Laptops (2013) on Saturday December 28, 2013 @01:24AM (#6974187)
I've had Feisty on my Toshiba Satellite P955 for over 3 years now. I think I bought it for $800 but you can probably get one for $300ish now. Ripped out the HDD and put in an SSD. Ripped out the DVD and put in an SSD with custom mount I bought from somewhere.

Had issues with wifi initially but found workaround after a while. I have to say, this box runs extremely well, I never ever have problems but then again I don't use a webcam or many other external devices. Mainly internet browsing, Virtualbox, shell, etc.

Re:Activists crowdsource escape from North Korea on Saturday December 28, 2013 @01:13AM (#6974167)

Re:Why I won't get a Google+ Custom URL on Saturday November 09, 2013 @01:49AM (#6700932)
these are all terms of service considerations. you can still choose a username upon signup for almost any social media account except G+. g+ is the only service that assigns a username to you.

i did not know that about /u/0, thanks!

Re:Why I won't get a Google+ Custom URL on Saturday November 09, 2013 @01:11AM (#6700846)
FWIW you can choose a one column layout. looks great on tablet/mobile but not so much on a 27" LCD.
Re:Why I won't get a Google+ Custom URL on Saturday November 09, 2013 @01:06AM (#6700830)
