> You’re the one claiming smoking cigarettes don’t give lung cancer

Care to quote me on that? You can't, because you just made that shit up.

What I said in fact is that I personally have not been harmed by smoking cannabis, and even tobacco too at times. A provable fact. I'm way healthier than you are. Another provable fact. You want to challenge me on this? I could literally run you down and break you in half.

I also said it's not necessarily the tobacco that's harmful, but the adulterants. Which is correct. And guess what has the most adulterants? Cigarettes of course. So you literally put the exact opposite words into my mouth. But I'm the idiot of course, so no worries.

The problem here is you don't know how to fucking listen. None of you do. You've spent way too long in an echo chamber, breathing your own farts, convinced of your own haughty superiority. So yeah, maybe in a roundabout way, air pollution really is the problem.

According to many sources, lung cancer rates among non-smoking young women are on the rise.

Might be the new car smell doing it. I propose we demonize and ban new cars next. "Make America Cuba Again"

If you can refute it, feel free to do so.

Meanwhile I'm just sitting here, being healthy as fuck as usual. Same shit I do every day. It's pretty boring by now. I just never get sick, that's all. I can run and work circles around you and your entire crew, and will continue to do so for decades, even as your frail body circles the drain.

Has nothing to do with my intellect, or life decisions; no, I'm clearly a total moron who just stumbled into good health by complete accident.

Or I'm lying. Obviously. (Who DOESN'T get sick, right? Unheard of among your crew.)

Re:I taught my neighbor to keep the volume down on Monday February 02, 2026 @01:04AM (#46852931)
Yes, it does! Thanks for noticing.
Re:I taught my neighbor to keep the volume down on Monday February 02, 2026 @12:12AM (#46852667)
Look, I'll spell it out for the obtuse:

This plant is of incalculable value for mankind. There are evildoers everywhere who want to destroy the plant entirely along with anyone associated with it. I mean put a fucking bullet in our heads and be done with us. Or make us work as slaves in their salt mines. Or just throw us in a hole and forget about us. That's the reality. We are fighting for our life every day and for the life of the plant itself. Yet all you can think to do is whine about the fucking smell. Like that's so important in the grand scheme of things. First World Problems I guess.

The plain fact is, it does not matter where we go to smoke. No matter where we might go, our enemies will come after us and attack us, regardless. Could be a hundred miles away in the middle of the jungle, and you assholes will come for us. If your type isn't throwing us in jail, or snitching us out, you're whining about the Fucking Smell. At a certain point it just becomes, "You know what? Fuck all of y'all, I'll do what I like from now on, wherever I like, and I no longer give a shit how it affects you, as you've made it clear you don't care what happens to ME."

Understand? Now go fuck yourself.

Re:I taught my neighbor to keep the volume down on Sunday February 01, 2026 @11:55PM (#46852566)
That's exactly what I do. I smoke at my home in the woods, far away from your very selfish, degenerate, mentally ill, and quite doomed society.

How do you suppose all of this ends for you?

Re:I taught my neighbor to keep the volume down on Sunday February 01, 2026 @11:49PM (#46852526)
Nope. You'll need guns. And concrete, for the bunker air shafts.
Re:I taught my neighbor to keep the volume down on Sunday February 01, 2026 @11:33PM (#46852435)
Thanks. I appreciate the recognition. It feels good to be well educated and knowledgeable.

> it's entirely illegal here

A mafia figure pointing a gun in a man's face and demanding he act a certain way or else does not negate that man's natural right to partake of any plant he pleases, or enjoy any of his other natural rights as a free human.

This plant is illegal everywhere, and has been for a hundred years. All mafia who are in control of any and all territories everywhere oppose the plant. If it were up to these people and their allies, they would eliminate it entirely from the earth, driving it to extinction and murdering, imprisoning, or enslaving every last one of its users.

Yet in spite of the great risks and dangers, and all of the suffering and hardship and persecution that comes along with it, people have kept and guarded this sacred herb for tens of thousands of years, if not hundreds of thousands. What does that tell you?

I recommend staying far away from x11libre. It's a red herring and nothing good will come out of that project. RedHat/Microsoft (but I repeat myself) is behind it. Study the drama that went on surrounding its launch. All that was meant to give the project street cred, like they're the rebel forces working against Big Brother. Nope, there's red flags all over that situation. Classic example of Controlled Opposition.

The nature of computer security is there simply isn't any, at all, at this point in time. The world's computer systems are extremely vulnerable in just about every way, on every level from the mystery-ware running inside the CPU on up. All of the CPUs and/or firmware likely have backdoors, and entire classes of exploits that haven't even been revealed yet. The software is full of bugs and vulnerabilities. It's dire.

Re:I taught my neighbor to keep the volume down on Sunday February 01, 2026 @11:04PM (#46852268)
Weed smoke has a scent to it. So do a lot of other things. The nature of cities is you're packed asshole to elbow with other people. Some of them may be weed smokers. They have every right to partake in the sacred herb. It might be of benefit to you too, if you would allow it.

Here you are upset over a small thing like a funny smell that you have decided you don't like. The smell emanates from a powerful psychoactive herb that could teach you new things about life and reality. Maybe you should take advantage of it instead of demonizing it.

So they took the worst aspect of Wikipedia (Wikipedia), and the worst aspect of "social" media (doom scrolling), and combined them? Brilliant concept. When can we expect the IPO?
Re:I taught my neighbor to keep the volume down on Sunday February 01, 2026 @10:34PM (#46852124)
Fact check: false. Smelling the scent of cigarette smoke isn't harmful, and it won't get you high.
Re:I taught my neighbor to keep the volume down on Sunday February 01, 2026 @10:33PM (#46852116)
It's all lies. You're being manipulated.
Re:I taught my neighbor to keep the volume down on Sunday February 01, 2026 @09:44PM (#46851819)
Ah yes, the proverbial Quick Google Search that proves me wrong.

Sorry, can't be bothered to take any of that noise seriously.

As I pointed out in my other now-censored post, I breathe in smoke every day through the copious amount of weed I smoke, and have done so for decades. I'm in perfect health. Odds are, much better than you in fact.

When was the last time you were sick? For me it has been decades. Let's compare notes and decide which of us really knows the meaning of health.

Everything is a lie. Believe none of it.

When Microsoft's update servers get compromised and some malware is mass distributed, the entire world will come to know the meaning of pain, MS users or not. CrowdStrike will look like the good ole days.
Starbucks fans are disappointed and angered by your comment. You must be punished.

> I don't drink coffee. And even if I did, caffeine is not a drug that spreads to others in the air they breathe.

No, it's much more insidious. It amps people up like crack cocaine or methamphetamine. It's a real killer--people have died from it. That's why the U.S. military absolutely bans caffeine use during basic training, for example. It's a really dangerous drug that should be controlled. The people pushing this poison should be behind bars. Think of the children.

Re:I taught my neighbor to keep the volume down on Sunday February 01, 2026 @09:25PM (#46851704)
"The" smoker? There are millions of smokers, including on Hacker News, despite the Religious Police trying to run them off.
Re:I taught my neighbor to keep the volume down on Sunday February 01, 2026 @09:23PM (#46851697)
I smoked a cigarette in the middle of the Amazon once. A game trail camera saw me and reported me to Do-Gooder Headquarters in California. I had a strongly worded email waiting for me in my inbox when I returned, explaining in detail what a terrible person I am for exposing those poor, innocent jungle creatures to my toxic smoke.
Re:I taught my neighbor to keep the volume down on Sunday February 01, 2026 @09:20PM (#46851675)
> I don’t know, I’m not the one smoking. That’s their problem to solve.

And this is exactly the problem. YOU are the problem. Your attitude is completely selfish and obnoxious, like your own concerns and value judgments should be the center of the universe. You are completely incapable of compromise, which is a necessary part of getting along with others.

> It is possible for the human species to exist without cigarette smoke

Yeah, and it's possible for it to exist without whatever pleasures you enjoy too that I don't approve of. I'm sure I can invent some twisted, self serving reasoning to justify why your activity should be banned, as I don't like it, and my judgment is better than yours.

> It is not possible for the human species (or any form of mortal biological life) to exist without children.

No, but some people's kids we could do without. Especially the ones who want to ban everything.

Re:I taught my neighbor to keep the volume down on Sunday February 01, 2026 @09:14PM (#46851641)
Attaboy! You punish that poor smoker for his unacceptable behavior. Now you can finally enjoy Your air the way that You like it. I'm guessing the rotten dog now has to go down the street to an abandoned lot 200 feet away from anything to enjoy a smoke? Good. He's learned his place--away from his betters.
Re:I taught my neighbor to keep the volume down on Sunday February 01, 2026 @09:11PM (#46851622)
Your ancestors have had many opportunities to leave Hong Kong over the years. They did not, nor have you. If close interaction with people who have different values than you bothers you, then move. There are other places to live in the world besides Hong Kong. You don't have to wage war against your neighbors who are simply trying to enjoy a smoke.
Re:I taught my neighbor to keep the volume down on Sunday February 01, 2026 @09:10PM (#46851612)
I'll remember your hypocrisy next time I see you with the caffeine jitters.

Addict. Seek help, please.

Re:I taught my neighbor to keep the volume down on Sunday February 01, 2026 @09:09PM (#46851606)
What's truly worrying is that you don't seem to understand that just because you don't enjoy smoking, doesn't mean it confers any kind of obligation on anyone else's part.
Re:I taught my neighbor to keep the volume down on Sunday February 01, 2026 @09:05PM (#46851583)
Wood smoke is harmful? Hardly.

Did you notice how they have banned and demonized tobacco, but the lung cancer rate keeps increasing? I just don't get it!

Now they're coming for wood stoves next. I'm sure the cancer will go away after that.

Re:I taught my neighbor to keep the volume down on Sunday February 01, 2026 @09:03PM (#46851569)
Sounds like a hellish existence, friend. No wonder all the elites like that place so much.
