Maybe we can finally stop gendering names. Like… is your handle a “boy” handle or a “girl” handle?
I wouldn’t fly so close to Apple if I have the choice. Apple could pivot at any moment - “New versions of Swift start at $99,99” /s
Haha, you may be a bit outdated. The sad part is you can go cheaper and still get a Mac. Thats why it feels like a scam - the price is so far from what you’re getting it’s borderline criminal.
This is starting to feel like a scam. I hope people know they can get a lot more for this amount of money.
> Vote with your wallet.
Apple is too big for that. Hard regulation is the only way out right now. Maybe breaking them up too.
~3 square kilometres is absurd amount of forest to be removed for something as silly as a data centre. I hope Google gets fined and made to restore the area.
> but when they're using the term seriously, they mean that the code doesn't get properly reviewed by a human
"vibecoded" is also a synonim for incomplete, messy, lacks cohesion, vision. In this case, I think OpenAI partially duplicates without superseding one of the CLIs with another (and same for their different chat modes... remember they had 3 not long ago).
Wait, wasn't codex the "openai cli"?
Their product names are so confusing (chat, vs. work ?!).. almost like the whole thing is vibecoded.
> Android is right over there
Where? Apple and Google are a cosy cartel engineered to never let you out.
I'm ok for Apple to allow (or be forced to allow) users to install alternative operating systems. We all use iOS not because it's great but because there is no other choice.
Of course, this will never happen, it's Apple... they can't even spell competition let alone "libre".
> I will stop using your app long before I'll install another app store.
m'okay bye.
Seriously, what are you trying to accomplish by saying this? Do you think you or app developers have any leverage with Apple? A corp that's the size of several countries?
We need choices and alternative options.
> I won't be surprised to see Apple using that for all the loophole its worth.
That has already happened on several occasions (Apple refusing notarisation, since you still need to be a member of their Developer Program thus subject to their ToS and all the crazy in it).
Hopefully, the next revision of EU's DMA and equivalent in other countries will close the loop hole.
Or maybe... John Ternus would wake up one day and decide to be a better human being and just fix this globally for everyone.
> It's terrible news for anyone who has some responsibility for the security of environments in which these devices are used.
On the contrary, it allows app and payment security to be better than what Apple offers.
Side*note: I really hope we can move away from the term "sideloading" which makes it sound like we're doing something on the down low.
Installing something is a perfectly normal operation - it's the App Store that's the special case :).
That’s good news for people who enjoy the freedom of using the device they own in the way they want.
Having (alt store) presence in Australia, Brazil, EU and Japan is in fact more than enough for many indies - one can even begin to imagine ignoring the US as a region.
When you're a gatekeeper / the phone company like Apple, the expectation is that as a general purpose device, you will adhere to at least some level of quality... simply because users have no alternative.
By constantly enforcing their walled garden and making it harder to use alternatives, Apple assumes the responsibility for the quality of their software. If they can't deliver, they should make it easy to pick and choose alternatives.
That's a great idea. I wish streaming services would have a first-party toggle in settings or something to just not see AIgen content (including album arts).
Yeah, every day. Have you?
> Creativity is mostly recombination of things already seen.
To be clear, ‘mostly recombination’ is thankfully a lot more complex than next token prediction which is all LLMs can do.
Selling overpriced decides to billions of people and somehow still nobody is available at Apple to spend time on this. No promotions for quality I guess.
The Font Book on macOS 27 seems broken - user fonts never show up.
We’re also apparently in a “Settings doesn’t search” build for the Mac once again.
> trying to trick you into enabling Microsoft services
Consider that “lucky” e.g. Apple re-enables Siri/Apple Intelligence every now and then without even asking.
> What’s iPhone mirroring to a Mac got to do with how Apple’s policies around its App Store
It doesn't, not releasing iPhone mirroring is apple’s malicious compliance with the DMA. They attempted multiple times to turn this into a PR stunt. In this case, it would be a question of making their “Remote Desktop” api available to developers.
Preparing to upsell those very expensive Macs coming later this month, are we.
You really need to read those terms of service - what you're saying is true _only_if you enable "advanced data protection" which nobody does because almost nothing works and it's opt-in, so people don't really know about it.
Maybe someone in the US should sue Apple into stop abusing their market share to lock people into their walled garden of "joy". Also, innovation happens outside/before Apple these days.
All that attention to detail only to load these devices with buggy software, ads and "always on listening" creepy Siri "AI".
That only works if you live in a paper house. Drilling through normal brick/concrete walls is not that easy - we do call someone when we need our wall mounted TV setup.
> Obviously depends on actual implementation details
So Apple can ship whatever update they want, doing whatever with no oversight or independent review. No thanks - you folks are forgetting the US a surveillance state.
A device with no physical switch for it's microphone and cameras worries me and it's just not worth whatever minor convenience this adds.
So Apple pinky-promises they will record everything you do at home and they won't use it? In any way? I find this really hard to believe. Apple is into ads now, so would you let Google/Meta see and listen inside your home all day? Nope.
