News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

Is that something that is actually needed for something or just money "laundering"?
I'm not sure, for example a lot of people talk about Ford as being a known brand, but see what they did with the powershift fiasco.

A few weeks ago I was in a dealership and they had 5 cars that were basically abandoned by their owner because of problem with the transmission.

Not saying Chinese will behave differently, but big brands aren't as reliable as you think

Maybe they should create an API for llms to use.

I blame google partially for this because when searching for bugs/errors I stopped seeing SO on results and instead I got sites that regurgitated SO's content

Why?
Re:Publish fake stats, get cited in LLMs on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @07:36AM (#50179192)
Time to push some fake code to github. I got bombarded by fake review sites

Can you blame AI? It's just using all the copywriting "tricks" there are, recommended by the snake oil salesmen that dont' mind tricking people to sell more.
You must have clicked some at some point, all I get when I have ads on is outdoors gear because I've clicked a few of those ads in the past and my "suggestions" are related to that category.
Re:Catch a Bird – I made it for my own sanity on Thursday October 15, 2026 @07:31AM (#50102192)
This is wonderful.

1- Are the birds actual birds species or just randomly generated? How?

2- Do you plan on doing some sort of classification on the messages later? It could be interesting.

Re:Amazon pushes up prices across the Internet on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @07:52AM (#50086219)
Same problem here. In my country at least, the handling fees for the local shipping are around USD10, you can avoid those using a courier but that shipping method is much more expensive.
Re:Living off-grid: Hundred Rabbits on Thursday October 08, 2026 @07:28AM (#50004529)
If everyone decides to do the same activity we die, that's not a really good argument.
Re:My Recent Woodworking Projects on Sunday September 27, 2026 @07:07PM (#49871732)
I have a woodworking project on hold because I can't decide how to do the joins.
Me too. But I always have the screen on the lowest brightness possible and use ublock. I mostly read text based pages.
That's a lot, I usually use old phones from family members, most of them have 4 years of use by the time I get them and I get a whole day of usage from the battery.
Something similar happened to me, a few months after refusing the "offer" that same site had an article mentioning our product but it was all fabricated negative stuff.
Re:Google launches Pixel 11 Pro Fold on Wednesday August 12, 2026 @12:48PM (#49275285)
Does anyone had a good experience with foldable phones? The only people I know that bought one had them broken near the 2 year mark.

My phone from 2018 it's still working perfectly.

Do you know Bolivar and San Martin?
Re:LG to ban residential proxies from smart TV apps on Wednesday July 22, 2026 @07:11AM (#49004875)
It's a shame because from the experience of people around me their appliances are some of the best, I mean for washing machines, fridges, etc.
Is this just delayed trash? At some point someone will throw it out.

It would be great to be able to create "art" and add something that degrades it.

Re:Ask HN: Recommended technographic API? on Monday July 13, 2026 @08:01AM (#48891367)
Besides the context, ask it to specify how it knows a given tech is being used.

I just realized this whole thread is an ad. haha. GFY

Re:Ask HN: Recommended technographic API? on Sunday July 12, 2026 @03:48PM (#48884039)
Just give the page to chatgpt and ask what they use. Give them as much info as you can.
Re:My burner email blocklist blocked me on Friday July 10, 2026 @12:06PM (#48861822)
Haha. I run a service that compiles IP addresses used by proxy services and a few months ago my own IP got there.

Turned out to be a friend that installed an app to watch soccer matches for free and in return he became a node of one of those services.

Re:Write code like a human will maintain it on Friday July 10, 2026 @10:36AM (#48860600)
Nice. I had a file with code samples (old code I wrote), including formatting and I asked to use it as a reference.

Will try your approach to distill the code to bullet points.

Re:What if users start cloning SaaS using AI on Thursday July 09, 2026 @08:01AM (#48844515)
If you have the resources to clone other "apps" instead of working on your own, either you have too many free resources or your "app" is too simple and someone will copy it using fable, allegory, apologue, parable, or the the next LLM that ships in the next few days.
Why not use headless WordPress?
Hello Joe.

How does the USD1 minimum works? Say I have setup a pull zone and i don't use it for over a month, I get charged anyway?

Thanks.

does it makes sense to compare the two given that waymos are driven in a limited set of circumstances and most of the times below speeds that could kill you on a crash?
Thanks. I had a blast for like 10 minutes. Sinked everyone around haha
A friend works in construction and they have details of how much materials each part of a construction needs. Most of it comes directly from the (not sure the name) SW they use to calculate the structure/ draw the plans.
Re:Avian Visitors on Monday June 01, 2026 @04:37PM (#48362323)
just thinking, I've talked with a mechanic but he told me that now when they connect the car to a computer they almost always find anything wrong with a car, that and the experience they have they almost always know what's wrong.

I think sound + location could be really interesting, because you can filter parts of the car that could be making noises that are similar knowing where the mic is.

Re:Avian Visitors on Sunday May 31, 2026 @09:09AM (#48345402)
Do you think the same could be used for other cases? I'm thinking about detecting problems with cars (vehicles) just by the noise they make
