Re:Reports of widespread power cuts in Spain and Portugal on Monday April 28, 2025 @08:24AM (#43820678)
As long as we’re throwing shade at EU vs US, I can’t remember the last time the US had a nationwide blackout, certainly not in my lifetime!
Was it a ban? Also yes
They said 1000 engineers. Surely a company consists of roles other than software engineers, right?
i’m guessing you have a problem with signs that say “danger, do not enter” as well
Re:What We Watched: A Netflix Engagement Report on Tuesday December 12, 2023 @10:39PM (#38622347)
Just goes to show how much people make things up and couldn’t be further from the truth (see other comments for why this information was released, this one is flat out wrong).

All of my apple devices have lasted multiple (4+) years. The only time an apple device hasn’t is because I broke it.
Re:LinkedIn is laying off nearly 700 employees on Monday October 16, 2023 @08:39PM (#37908711)
Which potential recession are we talking about? The one that was supposed to happen 3 months ago? or 6 months ago? Or 9 months ago? A year ago? 2 years ago? There’s so many potential recessions i’ve lost count!
Last I checked, you cannot withdraw money from a steam account like you can a checking account. Has this changed?
You think that’s why it’s taken so long to move off of IPv4? Surely it can’t be _anything_ else, like lagging support for IPv6 in newer network routing protocols, bug related to those implementations with IPv6, or sometimes no support for IPv6 at all. Similarly for systems and applications that just have no concept of IPv6 at all. To single out the US as the reason why we have not moved off of IPv4 is laughable, the US has a pretty significant adoption of IPv6.
…except the name of the site.
Re:Senate Bill to Ban TikTok on Wednesday March 29, 2023 @09:14PM (#35366407)
Honestly this just sounds entirely made up. It seems surreal to me that you live your life in fear, of what? The United States? Either that or you’re extremely over exaggerating.
Re:Docker on Sunday March 26, 2023 @01:24PM (#35316995)
This is only partially true, if _all_ traffic is tunneled over the vpn, then yes you’ll have this issue, but if the traffic is split such that only interesting traffic is sent over the vpn, then you won’t have this issue.

Re:Microsoft and Nvidia Announce Expansive New Gaming Deal on Wednesday February 22, 2023 @08:31PM (#34905614)
Like what? Unless you’re a professional gamer playing a very active really time game like Counter-Strike, there is a 0 chance you notice any sort of measurable different between 10 and 20ms.
Missiles can track things other than heat signatures.

It’s used as a symbol in programming, I have a hard time imagining a symbol that could replace “the”. That’s not to say there isn’t one that would be suitable, I just lack the creativity or imagination to think of one.

Re:Ask HN: Airbnb requires credit-card transaction history? on Tuesday January 24, 2023 @09:04AM (#34503645)
You don’t… have you stayed at a hotel before? You just put the do not disturb sign up that hangs off your door handle on the outside of your door…
Works fine for me
Right, I’m in a similar boat and I didn’t even go to college… all self taught.
Re:Ruby 3.2’s YJIT is Production-Ready on Tuesday January 17, 2023 @08:10PM (#34422058)
It’s probably not hard for someone to run the interpreter and try a few things out - but large private code bases are where the struggles would begin I imagine.
Re:Microsoft to lay off 11,000 employees on Tuesday January 17, 2023 @08:04PM (#34421997)
Believe it or not, like the stock market, employee headcount doesn’t only go up, it goes down too.

Re:Just: A Command Runner on Monday January 09, 2023 @08:21PM (#34319035)
I don’t understand how Just being written in rust as opposed to C has anything to do with this?
