Re:That Secret Service SIM farm story is bogus on Wednesday September 24, 2025 @11:54AM (#45362124)
That's fine but it's also the end of self-rule and agency
Re:Why Zig Feels More Practical Than Rust on Tuesday September 23, 2025 @10:08AM (#45347266)
when I think of rust I think of beauties like this,

self.last.as_ref().unwrap().borrow().next.as_ref().unwrap().clone()

I know it can be improved but that's what I think of

fancy stock buyback lol
Bill Joys 'Why the future dosen't need us' feels more and more correct sadly
Re:You're a Slow Thinker. Now What? on Sunday September 14, 2025 @07:44PM (#45244490)
Maybe it's time to rethink what standardized tests measure.

As AI takes over deep analysis, the most valuable skill might not be how well you think, but how quickly you can process information.

In the future, will we be tested on 'thoughts per second' instead of pure knowledge?

Re:Meta suppressed research on child safety, employees say on Monday September 08, 2025 @11:14AM (#45169347)
zucks for the children
CEO tells CTO to allocate budget towards increasing productivity with AI and this is the asnwer, it's easy to enable and not that expensive to trial
Re:The Day I Kissed Comment Culture Goodbye on Friday September 05, 2025 @06:20PM (#45144338)
dumb movie, comment people are some the richest in the world
I'd usually agree but tbh law isn't really a thing anymore, it sucks but we all have to adjust to the new order
well now that explains HN
Re:Mark Zuckerberg freezes AI hiring amid bubble fears on Thursday August 21, 2025 @01:31PM (#44975616)
the metaverse push is the perfect analogy

cool fun concepts/technology fucked by the worlds most boring people who only have desire to dominate markets and attention.. god forbid anything happen slowly/gradually without it being about them

Re:Mark Zuckerberg freezes AI hiring amid bubble fears on Thursday August 21, 2025 @10:07AM (#44972985)
You really can't compare "AI" to a single website, it makes no sense
Re:When Did AI Take Over Hacker News? on Sunday August 17, 2025 @04:42PM (#44934767)
The comments on most of the stories are the same old diatribes as well

most of them are fairly useles it feels like the majority of the sites comments are written by PMs at the FANG companies running everything though the flavor of the month llm

Re:AI Is Different on Saturday August 16, 2025 @01:14PM (#44925235)
lmao, "underplay ai" that's all this site has been about for the last few years
Re:Ollama Turbo on Tuesday August 05, 2025 @07:19PM (#44805724)

Re:Stop Building AI Agents on Wednesday July 02, 2025 @09:32PM (#44450726)
Eh, if you control the browser or provide a good plugin you can just have users scrape for you
most users enjoy interacting with helpful advertisements if you want to call them that
Or just OneDrive with office365 $7 a month for 1TB with all the other stuff
The entire apple ecosystem is a sham
Re:Apple gave me the Hey treatment back in 2014 on Thursday June 18, 2020 @10:58PM (#23570526)
A while ago the 30% upcharge for iOS users was against the rules, now it's allowed.

It sounds nice but if you're a Spotify or Netflix it lets Apple undercut you very easily

I do think 30% is a bit much these days when the store first opened it was a great deal vs the other options at the time

Re:The Return of the 90s Web on Thursday June 18, 2020 @10:26PM (#23570404)
I run into very few people who claim this.. oh you mean on Twitter? well there's the problem.
Re:Lyft to use only electric cars by 2030 on Wednesday June 17, 2020 @03:55PM (#23555973)
not that it's possible but I'd prefer to be making progress towards no cars by then
Probably legal ramifications as well due to Apple competing with netflix
Re:The Next Step for Generics on Tuesday June 16, 2020 @04:58PM (#23544027)
yeah for me personally it's tricky, I like Swift as a language but I'm pretty happy with rust and c++ for cross-platform system/graphics work (there are a ton of great libraries) and there's a million options for network services including Go that feel more built up

i feel like i'm at a point of language overload as it is these days, I don't have the mental space for yet another language

it gets really weird microsoft/github now owns npm, I don't think core service providers should be able to make discriminate based on politics

it makes for a very slippery slope

What part of the Rust community are we talking about here the parts I've interacted with (mostly a local meetup and the rust discord) have been great and don't feel like an echo chamber

do you just mean reddit and hacker news posters because I find calling that part of the community pretty absurd that's just lowest common denominator internet yelling

It seems like a pretty big quality of life improvement to me, I'm not sure why you're trying to frame it as a bad thing

In the past you could choose between capacity or speed now you get both

Re:Reddit Welcomes Michael Seibel to Board of Directors on Wednesday June 10, 2020 @08:44PM (#23483969)
The new UI works well for folks interested in image content and memes (which are the fuel of reddit now)
It's not spyware, software has just gotten so bloated/bad and project management so clueless that we really need to broadcast everything you do and everything that goes wrong back to the mothership
