Your argument is that Elon isn't grandiose enough with his statements and timelines?
We tried to scale "University". Turns out it doesn't scale well.
That's not quite true, what they can measure with the "tap on tap off devices" is people's movement patterns (point to point). That is valuable data that you can't really get just by counting people on and off or taking cash.
This is a problem that needs to be solved. I guess we should have solved it before the regulators got involved, alas, here we are.

The debate stage is a deliberately constrained environment. The world and where it goes doesn't work like that.

Summary: "Users get to decide if they trust Apple. Users shouldn't get to decide if they trust anyone else."

Why bound it to the US Federal service?
Re:A Letter to the American People on Tuesday March 11, 2025 @04:43PM (#43336811)
I get what you're trying to say, but 'ideologically diverse' doesn’t really work that way—it’s about ideas, not how things look on the surface.
Re:A Letter to the American People on Sunday March 02, 2025 @06:05AM (#43229264)
You don't really mean "ideologically" there do you?
Re:A Letter to the American People on Sunday March 02, 2025 @02:43AM (#43228283)
What percentage should there be?
Re:A Letter to the American People on Sunday March 02, 2025 @02:31AM (#43228214)
People who take disgruntled actions are definitely the kind of people you want working for you.

Name the values.

Well working? Estimated FY 2025 deficit is $1.9 trillion. If they had stopped ALL defense spending they would still lose over $1 trillion dollars in FY25.

Makes sense that the kind of people who would flip to espionage against their country are the exact kind of people you'd want to keep employed by your government.
Re:A Letter to the American People on Sunday March 02, 2025 @02:16AM (#43228142)
You can make up absolutely anything and call it an unstated goal.
Re:A Letter to the American People on Sunday March 02, 2025 @02:12AM (#43228120)
White men can't be ideologically diverse?
Re:A Letter to the American People on Sunday March 02, 2025 @02:10AM (#43228116)
You're not seriously making the case that the government was hiring strictly based on merit are you?
Given that in all cases interpretation is required, are you trying to make the claim that the President (who is elected and can be voted out) should not make the interpretation, and that some employee who is not elected and works for them should?
GPT-4 is absolutely incredible and even if we never get beyond it the world is a much better place with it than without it. It makes total sense to bet on the team that made this being the best placed people in the world to advance it.

I don't want to unlock to the home screen, I want to unlock to Apple Notes or Notion or whatever your favourite flavour of notes app is.

Being allowed to replace the home screen with some app would be game changing for making the device feel helpful rather than like the little universe of chaos that is is. Let me access other things from the app switcher.

Alas, we will never be allowed to do that.

Re:Humane AI Pin review: not even close on Thursday April 11, 2024 @05:40PM (#40007103)
Apple and Google will do that, no one else will be allowed to. Even if you could get the necessary device permissions (you can't), you're going to get sherlocked and be dead next year when Apple and Google bake whatever interesting thing you did into the OS and all apps get it for free.

You're at such a disadvantage on iOS and Android that it's a fools errand to try and build that app.

I don't agree that you can decide for someone what a net transfer to them is.
> everyone else in your industry also has the extra $15 now too, so you're not really at any competitive disadvantage

So you're all worse off is a good solution?

Yes, but it's all individuals making decisions.
Driving a car is like smoking?
"It's not that bad". It is.
Ever needed more stuff than you could fit in a backpack at work? Ever bought something too big to carry on a bus?
This.
<3

Sometimes you've got to carry some stuff with you and cars a great at that. Less affluent people getting penalised for needing some stuff to do a job is pretty brutal. No amount of public transport fixes this.
