Wouldn't it be ironic if AI is the best way to manage a socialist society and they start building it on their own.
Re:GPT‑6 and Intelligent UI for everyone on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @02:55PM (#49997247)
This seems like an expansion on something I was getting my agent to do which is use 'cards' to communicate using things like tables, rather than the ascii table stuff Claude code likes to do.

Unsure if this has been done already but the best thing I did was get it to create a list of next steps as quick buttons that it keeps updated in a docked card. It works well but occasionally gets stuck on some un related rabbit hole.

So are we and our sensors can be pretty vague in comparison, I can only imagine human error correction is pretty next level.

I agree with the sentiment but I can absolutely see a long chain of thought about something innocuous ending with a decision to book you a hotel room.. I guess --dangerously-skip-permissions is a bit like ignoring the keep your hands on the steering wheel alert but for life.
Re:How Poor People Buy Cars on Saturday September 12, 2026 @04:28AM (#49670252)
For me a loan would be far more stressful than fixing a 20 year old car, but I have worked for myself for 15 years so my priorities are probably skewed
Re:Research acceleration: The view inside OpenAI on Sunday September 06, 2026 @05:50PM (#49591308)
On the one hand you need any lathe to build a good lathe, even a bad one. On the other, that is a potentially flawed principle to base the entire future of AI on.
Given its form factor there is already a ton of active research into developments that would be just about plug and play. Hands with coordination for example.

Freedom to decide? Not that humanity is historically great at deciding what brings itself happiness.

I know some scientists and there's barely enough demand for them as it is
Re:I don't recommend Tailwind CSS on Sunday August 02, 2026 @07:35AM (#49143485)
For a very long time now I've avoided anything other than 1 class per div with style overrides and written with modular rules and 1-2 degrees of separation between label and rules.

Something like

.title {

  @include type-heading;

  &.LARGE {
    @include font-size-large;
  }

  @include onMobile {
    ...something
  }
}

This has the advantage of being naturally rule based and amazingly succinct to write and understand. Needless to say I'm an odd duck, since I almost never see css written this way.

(edit: I forgot how to format code on HN)

Re:Why Is Everyone Trying to Build a Solid-State Battery? on Thursday July 30, 2026 @11:09AM (#49111159)
Some heavier elements have hilariously high energy densities and aren't bombs (on their own), but the catch is the energy release is a trickle. Point is it's not an automatic follow that high density = high discharge.

Seems like we need to update that other saying - to err is human but to really f** things up you need an AI

Slower than a horse even, why even bother

I wonder what the income distribution is like

I doubt it's polar if that's what you mean.
Re:Punk, or why I don't stream anymore on Monday July 13, 2026 @05:25AM (#48889961)
It might have happened without him eventually, which wasn't really an option at the time.

I visited Bletchley Park Museum a few months ago, it doesn't really mention much of what happened with him at all. Which account are you referring to?

In any case, history is littered with difficult geniuses without talking about just one. Isaac Newton for example.

Re:Count Binface on Monday July 13, 2026 @04:18AM (#48889456)
While I haven't been to Mississippi I have spent the last 6 months driving around the UK on a working holiday, and this sounds like a massive stretch. Free healthcare might be helping.

I was referring to Alan Turing

This stuff is measurable
I don't hate the idea of using ai for the sole purpose of navigating arbitrarily massive sets of menus in moments. That actually seems like a great use for it.
Re:Bring Back Crappy Forums on Thursday July 02, 2026 @09:09AM (#48760999)
Followed of course closely by someone asking a question and replying to themselves saying they figured it out. Though back then I was guilty of that one myself.
Re:Bring Back Crappy Forums on Thursday July 02, 2026 @03:31AM (#48757813)
My biggest problem with old forums was googling a question, clicking on a post of someone asking that question, and the first response being some gate keeper saying this has been answered so many times use the search function.
Are you saying programmers aren't adaptable? I don't think I've ever seen this field pause to take a breath.
Re:The AirPods Effect on Friday June 19, 2026 @08:12AM (#48597683)
This is a relatively extreme take, the answer as usual is it depends.
Re:The AirPods Effect on Friday June 19, 2026 @08:12AM (#48597681)
This is a relatively uninformed take, the answer as usual is it depends.
That's the world being deliberately created though, one where a mediocre but completely believable song is a prompt away. The scope of the side effects are across the entirety of what has previously taken time and effort until now.
To me AI in marketing is a signal that whatever business I'm looking at will pivot when a fad comes along. That is not what I want in any service that I plan to use for a long time.

I'm not sure if this means gold isn't powered by memes or whether it's just one of the most long lived memes of all time. Aside from other nice properties like lasting a long time, being pretty, and not requiring electricity to exist.

Spoken like someone that hasn't been handed designs and expected to 'just figure it out' for a living.
