No 1950s sci-fi story about super-advanced computers is complete without endless clicking relays and flashing bezels.
Sounds like a cosmic egg waiting to hatch.
Less than 1% globally, so you're right.

Ah yes, the great cause celebre of our time. How dare anyone think of anything else.
Re:The Universe Within 12.5 Light Years on Friday September 05, 2025 @10:22PM (#45146039)
How is two objects not touching but feeling a force crazy? Isn't that what gravity does but everyone's ok with that

In 1989 I wrote a little shell with an embedded neural net that watched what you did and after a while prompted you for a likely next command. Just a toy really but it worked. I used to be into such things back then.
The milky way and zodiac from the Bible 2000 years ago... Revelations 22: Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb through the middle of the street of the city; also, on either side of the river, the tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit each month.

The proteins don't directly change the DNA via information transfer, that's not how natural selection works.
Australia was founded in 1901 as a federation of free states.

So Leonard Cohen was right... “There is a crack in everything, that's how the light gets in”.
Re:Use Prolog to improve LLM's reasoning on Thursday October 17, 2024 @06:52PM (#41874625)
It's not meant to be taken literally, it refers to any language of logic programming”. Apologies to Monty Python.
I'm in Australia and have driven on many gravel roads. It always means those small grey/gray stones that are spread on the road after grading, but not sealed. The article really does seem to be calling dirt roads gravel for some reason. I'm confused as a gravel road has a very specific meaning to me.
Re:Big Macs and the Cost of Living Crisis on Tuesday August 06, 2024 @08:08AM (#41170064)
The ABC loves this style, for some years now. I haven't encountered it elsewhere and I loathe it.
Re:The Stratocaster Turns 70 on Monday July 15, 2024 @09:54PM (#40973079)
Why did so many great guitarists who made their mark using other guitars then settle into boring middle-aged mediocrity playing a Stratocaster? Never understood.
Re:Giving Life to Æthelstan on Monday July 15, 2024 @02:26AM (#40965684)
I so look forward to our monthly Anglo Saxon Kings and Queens of England article.
Re:A Few Notes on the Culture by Iain M Banks on Monday July 08, 2024 @01:57AM (#40902912)
State of the Art & Player of Games are the only two I actually enjoyed. The others I plodded through begrudgingly.
Re:The British Elite Is Haunted by Childhood Demons on Friday May 17, 2024 @05:45PM (#40394480)
I recommend watching "If..." (1968) with Malcolm McDowell.

Not PhD students. Anything else.
Re:Brain Waves Appear to Wash Out Waste During Sleep on Monday March 18, 2024 @03:15AM (#39741148)
I'd be careful with Prazosin. Awful few weeks of violent and suicidal thoughts before it mellowed out into an emotionally zombified plateau, then I quit it. Cured my PTSD though.
I know nothing but read the article. These improvements are about analytic solutions and have no practical use. At least that's what it said.
Wrong map.
Re:"Dune" and the Delicate Art of Making Fictional Languages on Thursday February 29, 2024 @10:58PM (#39558388)
I suppose you meant Old English. As a lay reader I managed to struggle through most of Chaucer's (Middle English) work and enjoyed it.
Re:You almost never see a clock at the mall on Sunday February 25, 2024 @04:37PM (#39505038)
Welcome to the Gruen transfer.
A parliament of owls seems a confusion with Chaucers's Parlement of Foules (which derives from Persian poetry). Anyway as the article states it's a stare of owls.
Re:I used to not worry about climate change. Now I do on Sunday January 28, 2024 @08:02AM (#39165292)

They didn't compare Ossian to Homer. Read it again. They compared Ossian to Irish legends and then compared The Odyssey to The Illiad. Ossian was suspiciously close to the Irish where Odyssey and Iliad were quite different.
Re:The Dark Forest hypothesis is absurd on Tuesday January 23, 2024 @03:44PM (#39109501)
I always considered it a political metaphor really.
Re:Show HN: I made a tool to compare Timezones on Saturday January 06, 2024 @12:57AM (#38888848)
Sweet, I did a CLI version of this idea in 1987 for VMS, was working with people in Sydney, London & Chicago and this made it easy to communicate.
Re:Coastline Paradox on Saturday December 30, 2023 @07:59PM (#38820836)
The Wikipedia article states it's not really fractal.
