Cheeky at the expense of people knowing what they are talking about.

People at the top will generally be able to dismantle mechanisms of accountability, since they are at the top.
Re:Binance-hacker-1029 – $5.6B stolen from Binance on Thursday October 29, 2026 @09:01PM (#50298604)
Fine, but the comment "It's a (weak) bear market capitulation signal" is inapplicable, either because defining bear/bull markets doesn't feel sensible, or because it's not currently in the capitulation stage of a bear market, but some way off the bottom.
Re:We're releasing the weights of Mistral Large 4 on Thursday October 29, 2026 @08:55PM (#50298559)
It seems basically that LLM output is public domain, but a bit of human-generated content can be mixed in (whatever is enough to pass the "threshold of originality") and then the overall work can be copyrighted. Much like republishing a public domain book and adding an introduction or a few footnotes (but harder to extract the public domain component.)

But this all says nothing about the original question, about whether the weights can be copyrighted.

Re:Proton goes all in on using AI on Thursday October 29, 2026 @08:47PM (#50298480)
I assume it's just the "get rich quick" mentality, and AI is where it's at for that.
Re:Binance-hacker-1029 – $5.6B stolen from Binance on Thursday October 29, 2026 @07:22PM (#50297671)
It seems like bitcoin, currently 78719, was only 58526 on 30 June. That's 34.5% up in four months, meeting the definition of bull market.
My understanding is that it's not recommended in the USA to talk with cops. Anything you say will be used against you, or your friends. Just ask if you are being arrested and if you are free to go. If you have anything to say in your defence, save it for court.
Re:Lula wins election after final votes tallied on Monday October 26, 2026 @02:30AM (#50239866)
A district system already embeds bias towards large parties.
I'd guess that Meta is going to scrap everything anyway, and this license addition is just something that they think may come in useful if there are future court cases. The details of who has permission to grant licenses won't matter until then.
Re:Knuth Reward Check on Saturday October 10, 2026 @08:11PM (#50038413)
Wait, that doesn't sound right either.
Re:Knuth Reward Check on Saturday October 10, 2026 @08:09PM (#50038396)
Receiving a Knuth reward check is surely enough to make a life "lived".
Re:When random is not actually random enough on Tuesday October 06, 2026 @07:42PM (#49985792)
Makes you wonder at what point overweighting by about 5×10^-20 is something you'd want to care about.
What population crisis are you referring to? Usually, the problem is seen as the population getting too high and humanity taking more resources than is good for the planet. The global population is still increasing.
Re:Updated Google Maps shows destruction of the city of Rafah on Tuesday September 29, 2026 @09:25PM (#49903238)
I said this is what the government seems to be doing, I don't know or care about the general population. A government can't stay in power without supporters and collaborators, however.

* Well, implied, by "Israel" I mean the state, the government.

Re:Updated Google Maps shows destruction of the city of Rafah on Tuesday September 29, 2026 @02:51AM (#49889189)
The history is vast, you'll have to be more specific about what you are referring to.

"Palestinian right of return" was a perfectly normal political position, but you don't hear much about it these days.

Re:Updated Google Maps shows destruction of the city of Rafah on Tuesday September 29, 2026 @02:06AM (#49888870)
Israel rejects the two-state solution. They seem to be aggressively pursing a one-state solution, incorporating all of former Palestine (and perhaps beyond) into Israel. Obviously this doesn't include taking in the people living there, giving them Israeli citizenship. People will be killed or expelled. All while Israel continually claims to be the victim "look at what those people trying to stop us stealing their land did to us now."
Re:U.S. Sanctions Against the a/I Collective on Friday August 28, 2026 @09:47PM (#49486168)
From supporters of the defendants:

I'm not going to just take the word of anybody in the US government without listening to the other side. The description on "Episode 10 Who Attacked" is the other side.

Alright, and killed or enslaved. I also missed the communists, the same treatment for them. We can accept that there may be differences in targets between one group of fascists and the next, it's really up to their Führer to decide.
Re:Substack writers, you need a website on Tuesday July 28, 2026 @11:32PM (#49093115)
The problem is not really Nazis saying despicable things, their so-called "free speech". The problem is that they are Nazis and will really do all these things if they get a chance. Why would you want to collaborate with Nazis, especially by giving them space on your platform where they can organize and publicize? Sure, collaborating with them in any other way is also bad, selling them food, giving them jobs, or whatever. It's not surprising that some people don't like collaborators any more than they like Nazis.
Re:Substack writers, you need a website on Tuesday July 28, 2026 @08:13PM (#49091747)
Sure, tolerate Nazis, give them a place to share their words, let them be part of the mainstream, let them take part in elections, play their dirty tricks and form paramilitaries and win control of government. It's a shame that that leads to certain groups, like Jews, LGBTQ, non-whites, or immigrants getting exterminated, but that's just the price you have to pay for free speech.
Makes sense, since you aren't using that pin every day and it would be easy to forget.
One of the GrapheneOS people (I think) suggested keeping a bit of paper in your wallet with the duress pin, perhaps thinly disguised. Then the cops could try it on their own initiative. I suppose they'd become aware of that trick eventually, but then they wouldn't be able to use all those other genuine pins they find.
It's space junk and then it enters the atmosphere and burns up, I don't think it's too hard to figure out.
I think too bright would be an issue with any LED display. Even lights on my modem in a different room are a bit much, I turn it off at night.
Re:Inkling: Our Open-Weights Model on Wednesday July 15, 2026 @07:54PM (#48928778)
Not to mention the entire world outside the US and China. China seems to have the edge in stability.
The Wikipedia page implies that all the designated "Category 1" websites will now either have to collect ID from their users worldwide, or remove any presence in the UK.

Edit: there's a list of the Category 1 services at

https://www.ofcom.org.uk/online-safety/illegal-and-harmful-c...

I.e., Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Quora, Reddit, Roblox, Snapchat, TikTok, Whatsapp, X, YouTube.

Plus others at the Category 2A or 2B levels.

Edit: well, it says they are "Providing user identity verification options." Unclear to me when they are supposed to get users to verify identity.

Downloaded game? You can't download a disc.
Yeah, I was going to say that. Somebody has to pedantically state that it's a pretty silly terminology.
"If you work at Google and have access to this data, then we realize that $200,000 means little to you, but you'd be hailed a legendary archivist if you're able to sneak out this data."

Yeah, but still, I think I'd prefer to do it anonymously than be the legendary archivist rotting away in prison.

Re:Monetization Gateway on Friday July 03, 2026 @08:54PM (#48781666)
I was unclear how Google's bot would index it if it was behind a paywall. But the "Host two crap tons of content", with the non-paywalled site pointing to the other, would get around it, allowing the hypothetical big spending AI crawlers to find it.
