Re:Vue Native on Wednesday June 13, 2018 @12:53AM (#17300361)
I'm confused. Wouldn't "native" imply it uses platform widgets rather than HTML?
Re:Why Crystal Is My Next Language on Monday June 11, 2018 @12:15AM (#17281728)
Thanks. Next time I write a Fibonacci function, this will surely be a great resource.
Re:Proton Native – React Native for the desktop on Wednesday May 02, 2018 @01:36PM (#16979285)
The example in the getting started section comparing Python Qt isn't very convincing.
Re:Writing a Microservice in Rust on Thursday March 08, 2018 @10:54AM (#16545073)
That does seem a bit painful to me. Maybe it will get better with some Rust macro DSL though...
Re:Announcing Rust 1.24.1 on Thursday March 01, 2018 @08:51PM (#16498256)
Very good
If your goal is environmental health, using less land, less water, then you're better off tackling the larger cause: animal production. It dwarfs crops by those metrics.
OK so it's a $4 ESP8266 and maybe something else that plugs into the OBDII port. Why do I need this?
Re:Defending a website with Zip bombs on Thursday July 06, 2017 @12:23PM (#14711524)
Was thinking more about a maximum length for the decompression stage.
Re:Language Server Protocol, Rust and Emacs on Thursday July 06, 2017 @12:13PM (#14711443)
How does it compare with racer-mode? Does it have roughly the same functionality or is one a subset of the other?
Re:Defending a website with Zip bombs on Thursday July 06, 2017 @12:05PM (#14711388)
Wouldn't all but the most naive scanners use time-out settings, maximum lengths on bytes read etc?
Re:FuncShell – A Haskell-based alternative to awk on Monday May 01, 2017 @10:48AM (#14237872)
In typical usage, do you need the type hints much? I saw ":: Float" in there for the df example, for instance.
Re:Uber blocks employees at work from chatting on Blind App on Saturday February 25, 2017 @10:51AM (#13732026)
What makes Uber uniquely asshole-like?
Re:JSMpeg – Decode It Like It's 1999 on Thursday February 02, 2017 @12:51PM (#13552665)
How power efficient is this? Just curious because iOS was mentioned as a target.
Re:How to Run a More Secure Browser on Friday December 30, 2016 @01:56AM (#13282998)
How does this compare with the Qubes OS approach?
Re:The Idea of Lisp on Saturday December 17, 2016 @07:30PM (#13203615)
I use Common Lisp, and now sometimes Clojure. I don't get why folks call Clojure a modern-Lisp. I miss the cons cell abstraction, the multiple values support, condition system, the fast start-up times, the native compilation, and executables.

Stacktrace in Clojure with no possibility to restart also make me sad.

Re:Can We Put the 16GB “Pro” Myth to Rest? on Friday November 04, 2016 @10:10PM (#12877754)
Disk cache buffers. It's what's left after all your applications are resident, and often impacts IO performance.
Re:How fear of nuclear power is hurting the environment on Monday October 17, 2016 @03:04PM (#12728193)
Thorium based reactors, anyone?
Re:TypeScript Seals My Penchant for JavaScript on Friday September 30, 2016 @01:58AM (#12610729)
What on Earth is "enterprise-level type checking"?
Re:PowerShell is open sourced and is available on Linux on Thursday August 18, 2016 @11:55AM (#12313483)
Finally! It's exactly what we need since there are currently no scripting languages available in Unix user-land for when you need to do something beyond /bin/bash
Very nice. It seems a lot less janky than Syncthing (web UI, constant process restarts)
Looks like https://www.getme.com/ is sticking around
Re:VPN Comparison Chart on Thursday March 17, 2016 @12:30AM (#11302584)
Often I forget to disconnect from IVPN while playing low latency games like FPS. I mostly don't notice.
Re:Windows 10 IoT Core Support for Raspberry Pi 3 on Monday February 29, 2016 @01:06PM (#11196980)
Pi user here. Anyone know what the point of Windows 10 IoT is?
Re:We Need a Better PC on Wednesday February 17, 2016 @08:36AM (#11117695)
2015 Macbook user here. Still possible to burn legs.
Re:A MOS6502 assembler implemented as a Rust macro on Friday February 12, 2016 @09:05AM (#11087184)
Lisp user here.

This reminded me of https://github.com/kingcons/cl-6502 where the opcodes are defined using a defasm macro https://github.com/kingcons/cl-6502/blob/master/src/cpu.lisp... and implemented here https://github.com/kingcons/cl-6502/blob/master/src/opcodes....

Are Lisp macros pretty much on par with Rust macros?

Re:Marc Andreessen Pro-Colonialism Tweet Riles India Tech World on Wednesday February 10, 2016 @09:20AM (#11072835)
Interesting... Did the British also leave with the knowledge of how to maintain it?
Re:The F-35’s Terrifying Bug List on Thursday February 04, 2016 @09:12AM (#11033976)
Aren't fighter pilots obsolete at this point?

Much of the complexity in the craft is centered around keeping the poor bastard flying it, alive. Then there are pretty tight limits on how much acceleration the human body can receive. Pilot-less craft don't have those limitions, so I figure they should be much more maneuverable and less expensive.

Re:Nest Thermostat Glitch Leaves Users in the Cold on Wednesday January 13, 2016 @11:51PM (#10899709)
Dude, did you try rebooting your thermostat?
Re:H.265/HEVC vs. H.264/AVC: 50% bit rate savings verified on Tuesday January 12, 2016 @05:37PM (#10890954)
Does one need to pay to use this new codec?
