Re:Doom Didn't Kill the Amiga (2024) on Friday July 04, 2025 @02:14AM (#44461616)
And your anecdote is "not me or people I know of".

When you say the Amiga games industry is "extremely" large and vibrant, what contemporary platform are you comparing it to?

If there is an "extremely large and vibrant" aspect that makes the Amiga stand out, it is the demo scene.

Re:YouTube's new anti-adblock measures on Friday June 20, 2025 @08:56PM (#44333575)
You can easily and quickly turn off watch on mobile. Don't remember if it's a hassle in the browser.
Re:YouTube's new anti-adblock measures on Friday June 20, 2025 @08:50PM (#44333540)
If the value was low they wouldn't be squeezing it.
Re:Show HN: Breakout with a roguelite/vampire survivor twist on Thursday February 27, 2025 @09:40AM (#43194764)
Great stuff!

Small bug - the text for +1 level is wrong past level 1. It uses the sapper text instead.

Re:TikTok goes dark in the US on Sunday January 19, 2025 @04:50AM (#42755576)
If you're going to be ridiculous why stop there? Why not say the OP is implying all electronics should be banned?

Or are you arguing that no operating system can exist without tracking and sharing all of this data?

Re:UK sees privatisation 'opportunities' in Ukraine war on Saturday November 23, 2024 @03:45AM (#42219851)
Scandalous that war is business, instead of battle between good and evil
Re:Australia proposes ban on social media for those under 16 on Thursday November 07, 2024 @05:42AM (#42075484)
Isn't this the point they were trying to make? The corporations already have that data, it comes with the platform. The bit where you can use some of it for own purposes is not really the offending part.
Re:Show HN: SuperSplat – open-source 3D Gaussian Splat Editor on Thursday November 07, 2024 @05:34AM (#42075457)
Not that different to doing the equivalent edit in Photoshop, I'd argue. Quote often 'lical' edits are good enough
Re:Ask HN: What's your favorite text-based adventure game? on Monday October 28, 2024 @01:51PM (#41973994)
I'm gonna steer clear of games that use ASCII graphics as that'd be too many games to think about. With that out of the way: Toby's Nose, A Dark Room, Kerkerkruip
Re:FLUX is fast and it's open source on Sunday October 13, 2024 @03:54AM (#41826043)
What is different in this case is that large companies are very likely looking to replace artists with ai, which is a huge potential impact. Piracy never had such risks
Re:Furnace – the biggest multi-system chiptune tracker ever made on Wednesday September 25, 2024 @06:09AM (#41645653)
I'd assume it means that it supports more chips than deflemask https://www.deflemask.com/
Re:Furnace – the biggest multi-system chiptune tracker ever made on Wednesday September 25, 2024 @06:07AM (#41645643)
Agree NES is a good place to start. C64 SID is not FM at all, but agree it's not easy to learn.

His recipe for winning: be born into the Habsburg family
Re:Show HN: Learn Blender shortcuts with lots of tiny videos on Saturday August 17, 2024 @07:41AM (#41273759)
Great idea and execution, with the shortcut keys doubling as models. Certainly gets my visual memory engaged. Works great on Firefox android. Only thing I could wish for is sections like selection, sculpting, etc. Thanks for making this.
Re:Show HN: Learn Blender shortcuts with lots of tiny videos on Saturday August 17, 2024 @07:38AM (#41273744)
Do check the settings! IIRC blender specifically has a toggle between a 2-button and 3-button mouse. Maybe even single button is possible, I remember using ctrl and alt with a stylus.

Try something like "Photo of...", "as photography" or "photorealistic". You can even specify the camera model and lens/exposure settings. You can find these in metadata of your phone photos for example.
Re:The open weight Flux text to image model is next level on Saturday August 03, 2024 @02:45AM (#41145050)
Someone on Reddit did promptless img2img in comfy by passing an image into vae decode and then thru the schnell model for a kind of a refiner, with great results
Re:The open weight Flux text to image model is next level on Saturday August 03, 2024 @02:42AM (#41145038)
Any examples? I wasn't able to get any good results
Re:The open weight Flux text to image model is next level on Saturday August 03, 2024 @02:40AM (#41145031)
Are the prompts of pro users secret to Midjourney?
Re:The open weight Flux text to image model is next level on Saturday August 03, 2024 @02:35AM (#41145023)
Does this afford better prompt adherence control in some way?
Re:The open weight Flux text to image model is next level on Saturday August 03, 2024 @02:32AM (#41145018)
You can run it locally in ComfyUI. I was able to run it with 12GB of vram and reportedly even 8GB is doable, albeit very slow.
Re:The open weight Flux text to image model is next level on Saturday August 03, 2024 @02:30AM (#41145009)
Also worth mentioning schnell is a 4-step model, so comparable to SD lightning in that regard
As long as they steer clear of that high fructose corn syrup they'll be fine
Sorry, I am not really answering the question, but just my 2 cents on the topic. Who cares about saving Commodore? The best thing about the Amiga was that it was years ahead of its time. It played a big part in shaping things to come, especially in Europe, particularly in game development, music, graphic design, and what I'll just call the culture of sharing. Personally I can't imagine who I would be without having the Amiga in my youth - what I would like, how I would perceive the world. As heartbreaking as it was to see it die with a whimper, I wouldn't trade that just to see a Commodore logo on a PC equivalent today. [edit: typo]
Re:The Odds That Aliens Exist Just Got Worse on Saturday July 20, 2024 @02:23PM (#41018502)
Their changes to the equation seem to only push it even further into "chance that there exists another Earth with humans on it" territory.
Re:The Later Years of Douglas Adams on Saturday July 20, 2024 @02:12PM (#41018423)
What part do you think is highly rational in theory? The concentration of wealth into fewer and fewer hands? The destruction of the renewable natural abundance?

And what's "best possible" supposed to mean? That we have reached the absolute highest form of social organisation? Even if we lived in something much closer to a utopia this would be hard to defend scientifically.

Re:Humans now share the web equally with bots on Saturday May 04, 2024 @06:09PM (#40260686)
I doubt this can happen unless we start calling them something else. Any better fitting ideas?
Re:Western Music Isn't What You Think on Saturday April 27, 2024 @05:56AM (#40178739)
Do you mean orientalism?
Re:How I search in 2024 on Saturday April 27, 2024 @05:31AM (#40178617)
And in case it wasn't clear, I agree 100% with you. There's an amazing generative scene I've been following since the early naughties
Re:How I search in 2024 on Saturday April 27, 2024 @05:28AM (#40178601)
I'd prefer 'generative ai' as the common term. It rubs me the wrong way that human artists are 'content creators' while this is supposed to be 'art'
