News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

I recently switched to 100% pirated games (I own copies) on a permanently offline Win10 box. I started to enjoy gaming again when I did. Everything just works, no bullshit.

Previously I used Steam. I have ~700 games in my library. I now purchase from my phone.

That being said. This is a Microsoft forced solution. I refuse to use Win11 or online Windows anything.

Epic, which used to receive my business, changed the privacy rules to access my purchases and was blacklisted on my network as a result. Sunk cost be damned.

Anything can be replaced. Epic went out of their way to be blacklisted and Steam did not.

Re:Why Sweden is abandoning its cashless society on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @05:17AM (#50084676)
I live in Canada where not all that long ago, Rogers took out digital payments at most places for ~48 hours.

I had cash and zero problems. Many had no cash and many problems.

You specifically mentioned banking as a problem and I mentioned a specific solution. Based in real life, not fantasy.

I am arguing your point and you are attacking me rather than making a point of your own.

This is why you keep some cash in a safe place, like your wallet, purse or dwelling.
Re:Typesafe AI raises $870M at $7.5B on Saturday October 10, 2026 @04:15AM (#50030815)
I just wanted to point out that I have started to note this "phenomenon", seemingly globally, on any topic.

The sum of people not even close to the topic has risen, according to my feels at least.

Has this rang true for anyone else?

So, you're attributing a bunch of ideas to me that I never expressed. Making some pretty wild assumptions along the way.

I speak literally. It's much less cognitively exhausting. How does one effectively navigate the minds of others anyway?

All I'm doing is an expression of sentiment for individual consideration.

The comment is meant to illustrate that I don't think their statement is different enough to contradict.

The lack of effort to vote is obvious. As is what happens when you vote out all of the incumbents.

It's not a solution, that is obvious. Mostly because it's not suggesting anything concrete, either.

My suggestion is quite a bit more concrete. It's grounded in reality. The level of organization required to vote out ALL incumbents, is better used actually solving the problem.

I wouldn't presume to present such a solution, as I am only me. I would happily suggest voting in specific people over voting out the incumbents, at the very least.

If everyone avoided the ballot box? I imagine that coming to pass would indicate that the change has indeed already happened.

You can't vote out of this, you can only organize across groups and control your way out.

I'm happy to hear the alternative where you manage to vote incumbents out without the cooperation needed to actually fix the problem.

Indeed. We are the ultimate problem.
You are correct, but everyone does it can ALSO be used to prevent anyone from getting away with it.

In the specific context though, it is relevant. So the aside is more closely related to the behavior being outlined.

Presumably to remove it from the need to calculate. Everyone is using a different approach and one DB may require a lot more than the 30$ server can provide.

Now everyone can understand the math.

Time to pressure the local place to do the right thing.
That's fascinating. Do you gain access to facts or knowledge that are verifiable afterwards? Have you ever become fluent in a foreign language for a dream?
Have you considered going offline for the music PC? I took an old rig off and stuck it with win10.

I have one setup with all my media/games and have removed every piece of Microsoft possible.

Re:Autism mutations drive neurodevelopmental pathology on Thursday August 27, 2026 @04:06PM (#49470498)
The problem is assuming the social cues are important at this point in evolution.

I'd say the opposite is true, frankly. I'm more worried about people's inability to follow simple instructions, like making a hamburger correctly.

As someone who relates to the article, it reads a lot less like humor. It's a grim reality.

Constantly being told there's something wrong with you, only to see clearly those around you, has a profoundly awful impact. Eventually it's replaced by more accurate internal modeling.

Re:Firefox for iOS now has a native adblocker on Sunday August 16, 2026 @04:27PM (#49323345)
All valid.

I'm a Firefox user.

Depending on money from Google is worse than the aggregate of Brave behavior, for me.

Re:A U.S. Strategy to Prevent the Creation of Mirror Life on Sunday August 16, 2026 @01:34PM (#49321972)
It's a type of emphasis.

I am no Zoomer and use it, so the casual age discrimination is seemingly poor pattern recognition.

Further, I used to run a hefty BNET(SCBW) swarm (to give you a better reference for how much text from online users I have come across) and it's use was common then as well.

The best solution to text bothering you is to tell yourself that giving silly things such power is, also, a silly thing.

The preceding 'also' could be all-capped.

It's really difficult to understand what your definition of surprisingly bad is. What was it continuously having problems with?
LLMs take shortcuts if allowed.

Humans do it ignorantly.

The LLMs will improve while average human IQ in the west dips closer and closer to the 80s on the global scale.

I hear you. It was really a joke about piracy.
I take it we saw different demos.

I'm under no NDA, if you actually want to know what's up.

You wouldn't download a car, would you?

There's some spelling mistakes. To avoid an edit. I would say it won't take 2 years.

I predicted this exact event several months before Fable. ,not in a provable way, but the reasoning was related to a paper I read from here that I basically self-internalized as variability knowledge. Two very similar papers, one unfortunately named.

I also stated recently (in informal conversation), based on the performance posted, that said variability was only applied to specific fields of information.

So allow me to make a more provable prediction:

There will be another significant jump related to full field converage, followed by another and from there (we'll call this v3), it will then be capable of automating ASI.

Personally, I have reverted back to sneakernet in a lot of what I do.

That's what I miss. Some level of personality is desperately missing from modern alternatives.
The list of plausible answers is long enough as to question why you felt the need to include the word honestly, irony? One example: social anxiety.
Re:Google Is Censoring Reviews of ICE Detention Centers on Monday July 20, 2026 @11:46AM (#48980508)
These types of comments have been getting more frequent, or more irritating. Your conclusion is ridiculous and you should be ashamed.
Unmentioned is the effect of having officers watch your home the entire time. Which is the tradeoff not worth the hassle for everyone.
