Trump is 100% GOP. You don't vote for him in the primary and general elections then get to claim "oh, he doesn't represent us really".
So I buy some land. I plop an apartment building down on it. I pay "land tax" on the land.

Why would I not just raise rents to preserve my profits?

They have been buying up local stations for years. They then use that influence to push conservative ideas.

"Fake" doesn't mean fake. It's just signalling to his followers.

It will actually make them far more effective at what the republicans want. More consolidation, more takeover by conservative news agencies.

This is a calculated and malicious move.

wait no, you aren't suggesting communism.

I don't think switching to a property tax system is the way to go. Wouldn't it end up hurting people as you just see rents rise?

Re:I have no side code projects to show you on Wednesday October 25, 2017 @06:46PM (#15554945)
Thats a pretty arbitrary line. Why wouldn't they want to ask about hte projects you poured thousands of hours of paid time into?
Re:I have no side code projects to show you on Wednesday October 25, 2017 @06:43PM (#15554932)
I work on internal tools for a major company. You can't see them, some I probably shouldn't even tell you about.

When I get home I play video games and watch tv and play with my dog. sometimes I'll screw around with a new language or something else. I don't post stuff on github and keep a blog or anything else like that.

I think your view is pretty myopic. Ask me to talk for 30 minutes about one of my projects and force me to answer some tough questions about it. whiteboard some designs.

Maybe I should just hire some guys off a freelance site to write me some side projects.

yeah, but I'm referring to unix as much as anything else.

3.1 billion is wealthy.

How much did Oprah have when he said that?

man, I have to respect the guy's PR team.

When MS fired people for performance every year people hated them for it, and their culture was considered notoriously awful.
> The Linux Foundation reports that Linux runs 90 percent of the public cloud workload, 82 percent of the world's smartphones, 62 percent of the embedded market, oh and a mere 99 percent of the supercomputer market

anyone ever worry about monoculture in these areas?

Re:Microsoft Has Stopped Manufacturing The Kinect on Wednesday October 25, 2017 @03:50PM (#15553491)
But at some point shouldn't someone stop to question how valuable the space really is?

I suppose at least the data is worth a lot towards better voice control efforts.

Wasn't nintendo making money on the Wii pretty much the entire time?

> they seem mostly resigned to following trends

The speaker thing was Amazon creating a trend (or fad if you really see it that way).

> It is extremely difficult to smear a neo-nazi misogynist more than he already does by his own words.

I think Assange is a self-serving hypocrite, but calling him that seems pretty extreme.

This idea that you can shield companies from any and all morality by crying about investors needs to die. It's absurd.
> I've argued before, though, that I can't fault companies for using them.

You can and should. So should I. If consumers refused to sign they wouldn't put them in.

Unfortunately we don't live in a world that allows us to easily do that (unless you want to live without a phone, internet, a car, etc...). So that's why the government needs to step in. It doesn't make these companies any less scummy for using the clause.

Even if you argue that both sides are bad, the GOP is still seems clearly worse given that the they are rolling back the (little) things the democrats did.
Except the democrats were the ones who put in these rules in the first place.
> But please don't pretend the Dems are a whole lot better on most of these issues

They are, and people can demand they be better still.

> People 0

Not quite, but give them a few more years in power.

They have examined it and found it's fine.
> Does it make sense for the patrons of that bank to be able to sue the bank?

If they left the doors unlocked and didn't bother to hire security then sure.

How do you do that when it's the install EULA after you've already purchased the product?

How do you do that when the contracts are fundamentally entirely one sided (we can change it whenever we want).

> creating rules that clearly benefit

I think you mean removing rules that clearly constrain?

Arbitration clauses with dealers seem decidedly less evil though.

The loss of class action status is terrible and enabled atrocious corporate behavior.

> meaning, it is neither unjust, unfair

It's absolutely both of those.

> but it does uphold the rules of law favoring the electorally-accountable legislative branch over the authority of an unaccountable bureau chief.

Who gave the bureau chief the power?
