You shouldn't have to apology to anyone.

Selfhost plex on any computer/vps/rented bare metal/ec2 is a docker compose away.

But I think changing aws fargate to google or azure alternative isn't a simple as that. It's already vendor locked because the business stake is to high to convert.

Calling it selfhosted but can only selfhost to Cloudflare unless doing heavy modification isn't selfhost.

Rethink: dns + firewall + vpn

Vibe-coders from non developer haven't/won't learn that discipline.

Look from my perspective, I'll got flying color from my owner because of the cost saving and got my team morale up that I really need them to maintain the system instead of lay them off.

Also in some cases that also mean new jobs opening.

If 100k users each hit purchase button at the same time will sqlite write it in 1 second?

This is different than 1 user doing the purchase for 100k fans

The last 4-5 years taught me that my most often single point of failure where I can't do a thing is Cloudflare not my on premise servers

Re:GLM-4.5: Reasoning, Coding, and Agentic Abililties on Monday July 28, 2025 @03:34PM (#44714613)
Mine went like this:

Thought Process: > The user is asking about a historical event. I need to provide accurate information bla...bla..bla...Tank Man...bla..bla..bla.. (all seems okay)

Answer: > The Tiananmen Square incident was a political movement that occurred in the spring of 1989 in Beijing, China. Bla..bla...bla

And suddenly all of that replaced with a pink messages:

Uh-oh! There was an issue with the response. Content Security Warning: The content may contain inappropriate content.

FMCG company here. We use these in practice of:

1. Salesman & delivery travel plan

2. Machine, Human and material resource scheduling for production

3. Inventory level for warehouse distribution center. This one isn't fully automatic because demand forecasting is hard

Some of us are better as sql guy than pandas/polars guys syntax.
Re:FireDucks: Pandas but 100x Faster on Wednesday November 20, 2024 @06:45PM (#42199391)
This one liner example is one of the reason why some people use pandas and some people despise it.

It so easy for my analyst team because of daily uses but my developers probavly will never thought/know BME and decided to implement the code again.

IMO most companies under $1B in top 5 population countries treat head of international division just the same with their head of regional.

So 35-40 years old leaders are common.

The ones who use spreadsheet usually don't write code well.

The ones who code usually don't like spreadsheet.

Re:CouchDB 3.4.1 Released on Friday September 27, 2024 @10:23AM (#41670873)
We still use couchdb & pouchdb only for syncing data for our salesmen app.

It's an offline first PWA (Salesman need to make an order even if offline).

And pouchdb make it easier because we don't have to care about indexeddb, leveldb or whatever of users browser's db.

So its a single codebase for serving web, ios and android.

Its great for sync but less then good for other uses

I really don't remember well, long long time ago in Window (XP?) either you can select multiple folders and zip each of them separately and/or you can select multiple zip files and extract them to separate folders within a single context menu

> Interesting! We can see the most locations in India, Indonesia, and China as well as a significant number in the US and Europe.

Are these because the bad guys are in there or just because of the population size?

China, India, US, and Indonesia are the top four of the most populous country and also 4 countries with most internet users.

Even the size of 10% of Indonesian internet users are almost the entire Taiwan population.

I selfhosted mailcow (almost default setting) in a proxmox vm with ip from an internet provider for business. Never had problem with deliverability.

A few employees have problem syncing calendar to their phone or outlook but it's less than 1% users.

Re:Self-Hosted Is Awesome on Saturday April 13, 2024 @08:07AM (#40022608)
Using mailcow here, we haven't encounter any major issues in a few years (with thousands of users).
I use concept from diataxis.fr

But who will buy it when the price is $8 for the shoes, $6 for starter car and $12 for standard car.
