Decentralized central banks - are these the finance equivalent of dehydrated water ?
Re:SS United States to be sunk as largest artificial reef on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @01:59AM (#50269771)
At first I didn't notice 'SS' in the title and had quite the double-take
As long as the models are not modal, this will work. Modal models are a miserable method of momputer minterface mesign.
Re:People sick of being spied on by their smart TV on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @01:15AM (#50176341)
What happened that lead to you realizing ?
There was an interview with Altman where he was talking about various regulatory policies that had been enacted, then at the end he added "but in practice none of it turned out to matter. What we didn't anticipate was that the companies became more powerful than the governments". I wish I could find it today but it seems gone
There actually used to be links, but they broke every time the blog platform was moved and eventually were taken out.

They can replace anyone but they can't replace everyone.
Re:Livenerf: Has Opus 5.5 been nerfed yet? on Wednesday September 30, 2026 @03:24AM (#49905572)
You can put stuff like "make sure your reply is between 800 and 900 tokens" at the end of your prompt and the vast majority of the time it will do so.
I think the most instructive example of this is Stephen Elop. He had ONE (1) successful business venture in the 90's and has done a horrible, laughably destructive job at everything he has ever touched since, and is still a CEO.

What was the final result of your legal battle with the insurance company and their contractor?
Yes, those animals are called "humans". All you have done is respond to an explanation of your lack of understanding of intelligence with arguments demonstrating a lack of understanding of evolution ...
Re:Revealing the details of how OpenAI agents hacked Hugging Face on Saturday September 26, 2026 @03:24PM (#49859697)
Well yes, if it is a superintelligence, it will be able to do those things. That's what superintelligence basically is: The ability to achieve complex goals.

If you want the details of ways it can do it I recommend reading some of the reports about the HuggingFace breach that happened in July (Read more than one).

Step two could be something as innocuous as a developer accidentally adding a minus sign. https://openai.com/index/fine-tuning-gpt-2/
Rumor is this feature will be in Opus 5.6
Re:Feds Target AI Critics as "Foreign Agents" on Thursday September 24, 2026 @04:15AM (#49827743)
In my opinion, no; but they are now getting in bed (Metaphorically) with people who see their software as potential means to "beat China" or "beat Iran" and together they are weaving a very tangled Pandora's box of worms
Re:Feds Target AI Critics as "Foreign Agents" on Wednesday September 23, 2026 @11:44PM (#49825997)
If their activities materially increase the probability of human extinction and this poses a risk of potential loss to shareholders then they must disclose it.

"Everything" is the core product if you are developing AGI
Re:After Math on Sunday September 13, 2026 @07:06AM (#49682586)
I, on the other hand, don't want to be a permanent serf to whoever manages to merge their brain with ASI first and think it's high time we begin decommissioning datacenters through direct action.
Re:How An AI math breakthrough ignited a controversy on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @08:02AM (#49625128)
I have started to feel the sense lately, that first with the HF breach and now this plagiarism scandal, it is the straw that has broken the camel's back (so to speak). We have turned the corner and clearly entered the endgame - everything is going to unravel astonishingly quickly.
If you believe that the probability of destruction is currently 10%, but the probability of destruction if you decide to quit Anthropic becomes (say) 13%, then the rational move (Assuming you are opposed to destruction) is not to quit.
Re:I resigned from Anthropic today on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @04:39AM (#49623264)
Imagine one of the recent frontier models with a flipped sign (cf §4.4 of https://arxiv.org/pdf/1909.08593)
Re:I resigned from Anthropic today on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @03:32AM (#49622668)
I never made any predictions of a cooperative (Civil or otherwise) mass migration of civilization - just that a nonzero number of people would move from areas that were becoming uninhabitable to areas that were becoming habitable. Did you reply to the right comment?
Re:I resigned from Anthropic today on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @03:16AM (#49622498)
What cooperation are you referring to?
Re:I resigned from Anthropic today on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @02:49AM (#49622214)
If you read my comment very carefully, you will find that is not exactly what I claimed
Re:I resigned from Anthropic today on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @02:25AM (#49621973)
Global warming is happening at a slow enough pace that there is plenty of time for people to move to the poles/into caves/beneath the ocean/whatever. Nuclear war would be much more destructive in a much shorter range of time but you will have pockets.
Re:I resigned from Anthropic today on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @01:59AM (#49621726)
Those are things that pose potential harm to great fractions of humanity (multiple billions of people) but none of them poses any threat to the actual extinction of all humanity.
Re:AI Responsibility – OpenAI and Anthropic on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @12:10AM (#49620835)
My only regret is that when it happens there won't be enough time left to seek out people like you and go "See?? You were wrong!"
Re:Quasar 438B: Europe's Leading AI Model on Wednesday September 02, 2026 @08:37PM (#49544537)
On the flipside imagine if Europe could be a genuinely competitive continent again. I don’t expect it to happen in my lifetime - but if it could, the benefits to the consumer would be enormous.
Re:Uber is laying off 10% of staff on Wednesday September 02, 2026 @02:48PM (#49540650)
The thinking in these types of reorgs is typically to push it so far down the chart that it comes out the other side
