We also need more tech co-ops so employees can profit more fairly from their crucial work, because a pittance of low-priority employee shares doesn't really count.
Puppet, a freemium services FOSS model, switched licenses a bunch of times but settled on Apache. Depending on the use-case, there can be legal problems on customers' sides including certain projects in hardware, software, SaaS products or even just using them with onerous licenses like GPL3 and AGPL. The license's restrictions on use combined with the type of use makes all the difference.
RIP. My grandparents had a TI 2550.
Not another vendor-lock-in package manager. And, very predictably, no end-to-end integrity and nonrepudiation. smh.
If you want to find malware with no AV signatures, look at no-name warez of medium popular and niche professional software, and honey-net via unpatched Windows computers on exo-DMZ unfiltered IP addresses. I saw this one sample behavioral analysis of a trojaned well-known firewall product for Mac that tries to download Google Chrome in order to clickbot... no AV signature for it. With the right APT defenses, such as a root priv esc, SIP bypass and process & file cloaking, it would be entirely possible to keep nodes pwned much longer, at the cost of 2-3 sploits... and better use such farm for a big money-maker.
This is where fast and reliable caching strategies, and lazy, parallel enumeration come in. I would almost want the .DS_Store to include a summary of a tree's metadata and update what's in view by watching watchable filesystems in order to avoid as much full remote tree walking as possible. Shared remote filesystems without a differential/OT push metadata notification API reduce clients to glorified polling. :(
GPLv3 prevents TiVo, AGPL prevents AWS.
Puppet has an Apache licensed community edition, and they make money just fine. RedHat, Canonical, and so on.
That sucks. I used them in the past.
Yes, in states without "right to work" (for less) and other union-busting laws. More importantly would be for workers to quit en masse and start their own employee-owned co-op so they're not cheated out of profits they helped create but rarely see.
Adopt a form of magical thinking, and you too can get extra days off. ;)
But seriously, if you're on a flight that still has meal service, ordering ahead-of-time the kosher or veg/an option usually means you'll get yours first. :D
There is currently no consistent incentives for global multinationals to invest locally when there's "always labor somewhere else." If you compelled local hiring, then the multinationals might stop giving locals the middle finger and invest in a country instead of strip-mining it into an impoverished favela. I don't want to get into divide-and-conquered, tribalism political malarkey, but the people have to push out the corporate corruption and get politicians working for We The People, not just We The Corporations. Without fixing the political system by rising up, the corporations will keep killing the middle class.
For hardware prototyping and manufacturing, it already is.
There's work underway to make concrete carbon negative "greener" by mixing it in a sealed container and adding other chemicals to it to bind the CO2 and added carbon as a solid component of the finished concrete. I can't recall if it's the lime or Portland cement step of the process.
Beer includes free goggles.
It would sterilize water passing through the system, but not maintain ambient antipathogenicity. Typically, a diatomaceous pool filter, pool sweeper (like the old Polaris... the pool Roomba from the 1980's), chlorination and chemistry monitoring are needed.
Don't have open office internet: run in through a proxy server so tracking can happen. People are free to use their own devices. Then, during a lunch period, open up the office internet to news sites. Social media should be used on personal devices off the clock. Not to micromanage or infantilize people, but to prevent distractions for me too. Guest internet with a simple self-registration should be a separate network (vlan & ssid) filtered for malware, hate/terror sites, illegal activity and porn.
Also, productivity requires motivation and mission. If people aren't paid enough or don't get to share in the profits, why should they kill themselves for more company-only money? Meaningful co-ops and worker profit-sharing has a chance to remedy the situation and make people care about a venture. The other part is giant organizations having BS jobs without very much to do, let dead weight type jobs accumulate because large organizations make managers look good. OTOH, smaller shops tend to be more agile and not put up with any dead weight. Perhaps a solution is a Richard Branson one: keep splitting up organizations before they get too big so they're a loose-coupled confederation of business units. Since big business pyramids drain money and agility from an organization, try not to go there.
PS: I know a former DIA sysadmin who said numerous classified researchers lost their careers by surfing for porn on known monitored networks. Why would someone do that? It seems a shop like that should have monitors in the hallways anonymously listing non-official business URLs people are visiting from classified/unclassified networks to make publicly-obvious.
Maybe they're expressing their frustrations with Apple in general, but it is weak to exaggerate.
And I'm unsure if you're an Apple fanboy or not, but you maybe missing the big picture aside from this article: Apple is now just like supermarket produce - pretty, tasteless garbage. The facts are:
- Those low-profile keyboards are loud, uncomfortable and frequently break
- Glued in batteries basically destroyed if removed
- Overpriced
- Many MLB failures causing all sorts of random problems
- Many overpriced dongles required to do anything
- Non-Apple USB-A to -C adapter disconnects WiFi, but works fine on all other brands. Not just one adapter, multiple peripherals cause this issue.
- All sorts of other random quality issues and first year breakages
- No official parts channel
- Hidden/proprietary tools for diagnostics, repair and dead MLB SSD transfer
- Soldered in RAM
- Soldered in SSD
- No available schematics for repair
- Apple declares almost every model "vintage" at six years, preventing repairs and further OS upgrades
In conclusion, if someone is willing to take all this abuse when Apple clearly tells them "FU," what should an observer think? To me, it says: SJ is gone, a bean counter and a Bentley-chauffeured designer don't have a clue, so it's time to give up on Apple's computers until they find some vision and awareness.
Not surprised after watching Louis Rossmann's rants and demos of brand new MBP's failing. Glad I bought a Lenovo T480 on-sale rather than deal with an overpriced loaf Apple pinched out lately.
It's 1984 kafkaesque. The slowly-boiled frog deserves neither liberty nor safety. What the naïve fools don't grasp is anything they do or any information about them can be used to target them for arbitrary or deliberate police or political purposes.
Oh and then there's the peer-pressure gaslighting of anyone pushing back on the "nothing to hide" mantra or pantopticon surveillance state. Ask them to live in glass houses or give over their banking details, suddenly they have less "nothing to hide."
Lock up anything you value because no one else will. Also a good book: Three Felonies a Day
Note that most police in the US can locate any mobile number in real-time, usually within 100m, without a warrant.
This article is predicated on a strawman: it's not all the insects that have declined, and not all insects that splatter into moving vehicles, but a limited subset of flying insects.
Lol. I did, like 20 years ago, along with CD's metal-side up and a lit match under a large container. It's nothing particularly new or original.
Before you get on your high horse, you should realize that this is unlikely to be a real emergency. Uranium ore is around an order of magnitude more radioactive than bananas. These officials appear to be overreacting and you seem to be going along with it without evidence. Chemical hazards are much more of a concern if it's not encased in a sealed exhibit. That to me is "really stupid."
They need:
- :CueCat
- New Coke
- Olestra
- OS/2 WARP
- Microsoft Bob
- Betamax
- Smell-O-Vision
- Apple Newton
- Honeywell Kitchen Computer
Change departments if possible, or preferably, change employers because it's unlikely to improve and you shouldn't wait around and suffer unnecessarily when other shops exist that are relatively better.
Interesting. Formally-proving a classical processor circuit design (as opposed to the ISA and RTL) must be fun as sequential and bus logic aren't just 0 and 1, as there's high-impedance, time where a result isn't yet stable and uninitialized. Also, there are don't care states and values in the design which aim to reduce circuit complexity and latency.
If/when many qubits circuits can be fabricated, that also sounds like a mucho fun challenge for formal verification. It's an educated guess that people are already working/worked on it because the math usually precedes the hardware.
Being paid by the discrete, incremental milestone assures the client you're not messing around and lets them know you expect to be paid after sign-off.
Having a net 10 or 15 with a ~3-4% discount is also a motivator to get paid sooner than a net 30.
Furthermore, you need someone good at collecting receivables and collections, be it you or someone else, especially dealing with education, healthcare, government, nonprofits or the military... because it will happen in spite of your selectiveness and client rapport, because some large orgs think it's cool to not pay their bills.
