News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

iberator

most of the routers are patched by ISPs directly. also: they are usually not x86 architecture - so not all exploits are possible.
Re:Play Cyberpunk 2077 in the Browser on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @02:27PM (#50263611)
executables are very small in comparison to assets. you just decode the exe, transpile it to c, recompile again to wasm and viola!

you still need oryginal game to play

Re:Gforth 1.0 on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @02:24PM (#50263567)
For people who doesn't know forth:

Forth can have comments and doesn't need to be all at one line:)

also labels works as functions etc.

Its way more tradable language in real life than people think

Re:Ghostty 1.4.0 on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @02:21PM (#50263518)
I was sceptical for decades as well. But they are amazing - no more closing the xterm by mistake. I'm using those because I wanted for example a single window with THREE consoles open at once AND being able to handle some ANSI crazy theming.

Xterm failed me :( Tabby just works.

Re:PHP 8.5.12, 8.4.27, 8.3.36 and 8.2.35 out on Saturday October 24, 2026 @05:34AM (#50219570)
Ubuntu is CLONE of Debian. So of course debian is first and better.

Ubuntu literally stole debian, added own wallpaper and started selling it as its own distro.

Re:Show HN: Uberblok – an interactive museum of ZFS internals on Saturday October 24, 2026 @05:23AM (#50219528)
ZFS is useless. No bit rot protection at all. ZFS just informs you about broken files (like FAT32 3 decades ago) but can't fix them... There should be some parity data added or some Salomon Reed forward correction of data... Waiting for such a feature for a decade now
Re:/dev/null: social network for developers on Friday October 16, 2026 @04:41PM (#50124352)
Good point.

What if Microsoft black listed me from GitHub forever? I'm also banned from Facebook for like decade

Re:Big Fish: Exploiting a 37-Year-Old Kernel Bug in OpenBSD on Friday October 16, 2026 @04:39PM (#50124330)
NetBsd os the King. Most portable operating system (not just kernel) on the Planet.

All back to 1978 VAX/780 - still working from single base sources as x86 or ARM

Re:Celebrating 70 Years of Fortran on Thursday October 15, 2026 @03:38PM (#50109141)
Pascal and ADA are the direct successor of Algol 60(forgot the year of the first simpler dialect) and 68.

Algol, Pascal, Oberon, Simula, ADA, Julia (afik)

Re:your C is not standard C on Thursday October 15, 2026 @08:03AM (#50102461)
You love it? Then how come there are almost no applications for Plan9 ? Literally like only 2 editors for example .

What software do you write?

Re:Wanted to download an ISO, ended up writing a kernel exploit on Thursday October 15, 2026 @08:02AM (#50102453)
Do you update the kernel every week? Linux is an awful choice for routers: too many exploits and ultra fast cycle of updates/features plus there are number one target...
Lazy people and slackers ruined WFH. That's EXACTLY why companies wanna see such photos.

This is not different from seeing you at the office from a CCTV camera. If you are an honest worker - you should not worry.

Re:A minimal kernel in Swift, running in QEMU on Thursday October 08, 2026 @09:04AM (#50005355)
This is a prime example of how to spot poser vs real programmers.

How could one even start programming without sewing HACKERS the movie. cult classic

Re:A minimal kernel in Swift, running in QEMU on Thursday October 08, 2026 @09:02AM (#50005333)
Awful. Seriously. 100% CPU usage with "while true:"
BS. So far AI just destroys jobs and lifes, and does not create literally any more jobs at all.
Re:Why Were Victorian Elites So Effective? on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @06:14PM (#49999500)
Slavery and Imperialism money.
Re:Google Playground on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @06:13PM (#49999492)

Re:C's Flexible Integer Sizes Were Not a Design Mistake on Monday September 28, 2026 @11:29AM (#49879594)
Worth to mention that in the 80" Microsoft was the biggest UNIX vendor with their XENIX operating system:)
Re:Principles for Fast Tokio Applications on Monday September 14, 2026 @06:01PM (#49704780)
What the hell is Tokio? Articles mentions it like once I was expecting some programing principles from Japan
Re:A 386 PC for Your RP2350 on Monday September 14, 2026 @10:29AM (#49697475)
MMU can be emulated as part of emulated architecture. Its totally possible to have software only mmu.
Re:NetBSD 9.5 released and EOL for NetBSD-9 on Monday September 07, 2026 @11:07AM (#49599271)
NetBSD holds record for most supported architectures. Like 50 diffrent, while Linux like maybe 20...

Oldest one: VAX780 from 1978(!!!). First 32bit xpu with mmu

Re:How to Create a Tor Exit Node on Saturday September 05, 2026 @09:04PM (#49582369)
I once got raided by the Police for hosting tor node for just literally 3 weeks! (about 5 months later)

Police seized EVERYTHING, and I got my hardware returned to me after like 1 year.

Got caution for sharing pirated software, but they didn't prosecute. It was in the UK.

Re:Actively exploited sandbox RCE in all Chromium versions on Saturday September 05, 2026 @06:59AM (#49575308)
Good antivirus should protect you from such attacks. Even zero day ones.
Re:Tmp.0ut, Vol. 5 on Monday August 31, 2026 @03:48PM (#49514118)
Very cool and BBS/hacking style. BUT almost useless on mobile :(

I prefer to use a PC but that kind of articles are perfect to read when commuting.

You could just use <br> instead of fixed length words per line.

i meant opoosite. browsing http over gopher
Please write an article about that French computer Project idea: find 64kb kb of such memory and connect it somehow into Apple2, atari and other 8bit cpus hehe

It must be possible to have some hardware adapter to map RAM into that type of memory.

Or even over serial...

ps. Related story: around 10 years ago Texas Instruments started to use FRAM in some of their 16 bit MCUs (msp430 family)

It works exactly like core memory - data still intact after power resets.

This os is supposed to be run on bare metal AFIK for same reason
Re:The Sloppification of Peptides on Monday August 24, 2026 @05:29AM (#49417293)
Its the same as Ketamine?
No one is using it in real life. It's a super weak hobbyist protocol with a lot of hype and marketing.

Seriously. Only rich nerds in SAN FRANCISCO are using it.
