Unity wont bake lights on Ryzen Hackintosh too using Progressive GPU/CPU. Also VMWare won't run because of lack of Intel specific VT-x support, same with Docker for mac, Virtualbox runs fine though (it finds amd-v).
It feels like GCP figured out a way to charge for ingress. I can get behind using NAT instead of our instances having external IP's but a 4.5¢/GB hit on egress AND ingress traffic is hard to swallow.
If you like this you might like Glances. I use it on my home cluster to monitor Docker quickly. You can pull it up in a browser for extra laziness.

Safari seems lacking in the browser extensions department.
I would use it for browser testing websites if it's renders identically to the Windows version.
Seems like a good idea to check for and try any export tools before adding content to a system. Furthermore if the site provides the export tool there's no guarantee they wont take it away or modify it.
I commented on a thread a couple weeks ago about Cloud Functions on GCP here:
https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=17796893Eager to test it out we ran thousands of tests attempts with different RAM sizes and I can corroborate this persons findings in regards to the reduction of cold start time from functions with larger RAM allocations and seeming unpredictability of cold start on GCP. I hope with time they will improve cold start times or increase the minimum time for making a function "cold".
Thanks for spending time to let me know because I don't think I would have noticed it otherwise! I can't see it on retina but I can on my non retina display. We'll have to make the CSS rule more specific. As to why it's there I believe Firefox 57 or around that version had an issue with the sliding animation on the top of the page causing images to tear or not render at all when they scrolled in. This bug must have been solved recently because disabling backface-visibility on the image doesn't cause the same tearing.
Among other things with puppeteer we do screenshot generation
using GKE on Google Cloud @
https://screenshots.cloud/ scaling up and down running instances depending on demand. We keep browser instances running constantly as the startup time is significant. I will be interested to see what the startup time is for puppeteer on this, will definitely be giving it a try.
Looks amazing guys, public metrics looks like a really killer feature. Hope to be able to afford to spend $80/month on this in the future!
You can run your daily/hourly backups on the mirror and not impact performance on your main database.
PhantomJS doesn't need Xvfb anymore it can run headless without this dependency.
You don't have to refresh the page, you could make it so that your next page click loads the full page instead of using ajax/pjax.
quick pjax e.g.:
<html data-lastupdated="1234567890"...
$.getJSON('/lastupdated.json', function(lastupdated) {
if(lastupdated > $('html').data('lastupdated'))
{
$('a[data-pjax]').removeAttr('data-pjax');
}
});

I would love to see redis diskstore back. I haven't found a disk based LRU cache that persists to disk that is as easy as the diskstore was.
The Three Gorges Dam on the Yangtze river causes a lot of environmental damage. They dont want Chinese citizens to read about it.
If you break a bone it needs setting so you dont have problems with it later.
It would be great to see an example of the bad recruiter e-mails received from each domain. I think this would give the list some more authority.
If they deserve some time does that mean we are free to take other peoples music so long as we take it down as soon as they find out?
When does it cross the line from inspired to copied? The HTML markup for the 3 panel middle thing is almost identical. The Choose Plan buttons are pixel for pixel identical according to imagemagick compare. Was the other page just inspired also?
Even though you redacted that information it's quite easy to find that person still because of the poor spelling and grammar. Perhaps you should remove it.
It would be cool if it had a link to the HN comments that go along with each article. I find a lot of value in the discussion that accompanies each story most of the time.
I think installing a game feels like a commitment. If all I need to do is open up the browser and the game will start playing I can just check it out without making that commitment, it will get me to try it if I'm undecided, if I don't like it I can just close the window and be done with it.
You mention Spotify, I think Pandora is a great example of overcoming that feeling of commitment. If I go to the Pandora website I can listen to music right away by just typing in an artist. If I go to spotify I need to download some client and who knows how hard it will be to get rid of. If I complete the downloading step then I need to sign up for the service (I know they changed it to facebook login recently so I don't know if it's the same) just to start listening. I don't even know if I will like the service at this point because I haven't even got to try it yet. I think I would describe this as friction.
Love the fake 5 stars. All that's missing is mimicking the scammy copy those ads always have: "See this weird trick a mom learned about bingo cards"
> Did anyone expect him to say something different?
He could have said nothing at all.
I dont think it's fair to dismiss OLPC and talk about how this will be better for third world children. Yes this is $25 but you still need to connect it to an input as well as HDMI output. Your Raspberry Pi and monitor needs to be connected to a reliable and constant electricity source where as the OLPC is battery powered with an integrated screen. I know that all these things can be solved but then you have to take into account that the $25 cost will start to increase.
