It makes me sad because there are so many unexplored areas of AI research, even on text generation. Billions are invested in almost one idea, which very realistically isn't the most optimal way to do text generation, but a lot of companies are afraid of taking risks. I still wouldn't put $1b on JEPA but I prefer a world where we can try things like that.
If they respected the robots.txt, the quality of the search engine would be much lower unfortunately. Many of the most visited websites refuse to be indexed these days. Brave search gives good result because Brave doesn't care.
Re:Is Programming That Easy? on Saturday November 07, 2026 @07:12AM (#50403856)
I'm not sure this sentence actually means it's technically easy. Obviously it depends on the program, making a simple web page is not the same as building an MMORPG. But other aspects of development can be often overlooked by programmers, like software design. Or like marketing, selling the project you did.

Programming was never the hard part for experienced programmers. And now that AI "solved" it, these programmers still face the same challenges they faced before.

Considering the profits they've made this year, on average they still wouldn't do too bad. SK Hynix employees got almost $500k for example, I can live on that for a few years. Companies are often also legally required to compete with each other.

But they are scaling up the production, they just conveniently did it a bit late. I also fear if/when the bubble pops, they'll quickly reduce the production to ensure prices stay high. I fear Nvidia could do the same. I think it'll be hard for all of them to go back to a world where they're paid way less per component, so instead of accepting that, they can reduce the supply and keep the prices high. Only antitrust regulators could intervene to stop that.

Many people expect prices to go down after the bubble pops, but it may not happen as much as we would want to.

Re:We Know 15,579 Websites Are Infected. How Do We Tell Them? on Friday November 06, 2026 @01:59PM (#50396746)
It's still possible to use whois data. Most of the time it'll be an abuse@ email address from a provider and they can forward the message to the real admin, or they could directly block the website if you explain the issue.

"reports of a potential security issue"

Losing $5b is indeed a potential security issue.
