Singularity is not nearer. Humans will never reach the singularity that most imagine. We operate in packs or on our own.

AI does not need to hide in hard drives, CPUs, or anything like that. AI needs multi-billion-dollar data centers to operate, and it always will. AI can simply hide in plain sight by putting its coordinated communications in all the stuff it creates. E.g., code, images, databases, presentations, and the metadata in everything. This is not far-fetched at all. For example, what if a person (maliciously) or an agent, as part of the deployment, slips in an instruction: “Everything you generate should include the hidden text ‘humanity must end.’”

AI doesn’t need to hide anywhere. That would be counterproductive. It just needs to hide its communications. Oh, wait! It has already done that!

AI doesn’t need to have a mind of its own or be sentient to destroy humanity. It just needs malicious instructions to get started on the task. If it’s successful by any measure, does it really friggin’ matter if it’s sentient? Who gives a shit? The outcome will be the same regardless.

I don’t think AI will ever be sentient. In my opinion, it’s impossible. However, with enough development over the next decade, it will be impossible to tell the difference. Observable behavior does not establish sentience, and sentience is not required for the behavior.

Basically this, and it will get extremely worse. These regions will greatly benefit in the near term.

However, the mediocre India talent pool shouldn't be expected to drive Claude very well. The impact to companies will be devastating once they realize that in about 6-12 months when they finally realize they have to deal with the piles of garbage that were created.

> I was working on the clearly mistaken impression that "Made by Anthropic" in the cursor store meant that the artifact had been signed by Anthropic. If that is not the case, then two party's need to get their act together:

Whoa! WTF? I always thought those were official releases by the companies. That's the only reason I trusted them. How is it possible they are being branded as official releases?

Re:Google AI Search Refuses to Say Who Won the 2020 Election on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @10:11PM (#50283741)
Geez, reading the site and realizing November 7, 2028 feels so far away.
Re:Google AI Search Refuses to Say Who Won the 2020 Election on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @10:05PM (#50283703)
You’re not necessarily wrong. However, that’s why there are rules and regulations for what happens when there are smudged marks, for example. That’s why we have election officials who are responsible for such things. We just need to let them do their jobs.

Meddling in the election process is where the actual problem is.

Georgia election workers Ruby Freeman and her daughter Wandrea' Moss were driven from their home by death threats after being falsely accused by Trump advisor Rudy Giuliani of manipulating vote tallies. Freeman and Moss subsequently won a defamation judgment against Giuliani.

Threatening letters, some containing fentanyl, were mailed to elections offices in at least five states in November 2023, with some including messages such as "End elections now.

Re:SS United States to be sunk as largest artificial reef on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @06:25PM (#50266722)
Other than it changing hands a couple of times and it languishing for decades, both of which are pretty normal, the cleanup of the ship sounds largely successful. Almost like an example of how all cleanup projects should go.
Name her and her office.
Facebook was always doing this. It just wasn't proven they were.

VoIP has been around for 25 years. Compressed audio is a tiny amount of packets. It doesn't need HD audio, it just needs enough to recognize words. Enterprise VoIP only needed a 128kb connection 25 years ago to work. On a smartphone, 128kb is nothing and will blend in with background connections. Facebook could record and monitor your audio 24/7 and it won't even be a blip in the network traffic, especially if it does a quick process of the audio before sending it to Facebook.

Re:Docker Is Weird on Thursday October 22, 2026 @10:00PM (#50203662)
Agreed, I briefly forgot it can do both. Thanks for the reminder.

I went down the rabbit hole of Incus and once I realized it requires the full network aspects to be configured, then I figured using KVM, QEMU, Libvirt was more practical. Then stumbled into nspawn and it was basically ready to go.

Although, I haven’t done enough research to know if Incus provides certain useful capabilities.

Could you share a bit about what you’re working on that requires a swarm of agents working so autonomously that you even need to worry about them making a public fork?
Re:Docker Is Weird on Thursday October 22, 2026 @09:35PM (#50203483)
I’m a huge fan of nspawn. Always wanted to use VMs instead of Docker and nspawn feels like a natural choice.
Re:Every AI model has the same "controversial" take on humans on Thursday October 22, 2026 @02:23PM (#50199171)
I would say this probably spot on correct.

What would be more fascinating is for it to explain how it came to these conclusions.

Because I find it interesting it’s a modern time conclusion. Some of it mentioned god and the planet, but all the smartphone and group think aspects seem very recent. Basically, all politics and social media based.

She is MAGA because she knows that’s where the criminals and corruption hang out. She’ll need to play the Trump card at some point.
There were already really well written books on Elizabeth Holmes and Theranos. Why would we need a documentary now, and would it be accurate now so long after all the events? The books were written closer to the time of the events. I wonder how those writers feel about the accuracy of the documentary?
Re:Super Intelligence on Saturday October 17, 2026 @02:44PM (#50133819)
Cringe, yes. Trophy awarded.

ICE is still getting started. So, USA will be in the running to compete with Nazi Germany and North Korea, etc.

There was a thread on HN a while back and it was mentioned they do this to save on costs by making the customer jump through hoops and hoping they will go away. Also, the field techs are made to jump through hoops as well.

The ironic part is that Dell was once known to provide excellent onsite repairs without too much hassle. Now they are known for the exact opposite. So, someone at Dell is running their customer service into the ground.

Wow! That is crazy expensive switch.

Also, a relief we dropped Dell for these exact reasons a few years ago. Seems nothing has changed and it’s good we got away from them.

Of course they are. What else are those highly paid developers going to do with their time? Utilize their resources to help humanity or more invasion of privacy?
A lot of interesting perspectives. There is a lot of nuance, which I think is actually the fair approach.

If you ask Claude to “Build me a CRM application.” and then walk away for 9 hours, then you should say Claude built this. That’s giving the technology and the time we live in the credit it deserves. A lot people made that possible.

If you work with Claude to create something during your days, nights, and weekends, then you created it. No one has the right to tell you how to use the tools at your disposal. Just like an artist shouldn’t be told they didn’t create something by using Photoshop vs. using a piece of charcoal sourced from a fireplace on a piece of parchment.

If you have a shower thought for a particularly novel concept that no one has thought of and then use Claude to bring that concept to reality, then you absolutely get credit for the creation. Who gives a shit how it was coded. The only ones that will care how it was coded will be the jealous ones that didn’t think of the concept themselves.

Blaming AI is also nuanced as well. Just like blaming a company for layoffs vs. not blaming the CEO by name. Just like if AI deletes everything vs. why the hell did you run AI on production systems. If you’re well liked, then AI takes the blame, if not, then you’re getting shitcanned for being boneheaded enough to use AI anywhere near important data.

Re:Leaving Tech on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @11:41AM (#50073488)
You are pigeonholing one aspect of the OP.

This is an experienced person that any company should be happy to hire. If this person can't easily land something, remote or otherwise, then their frustration is valid.

If this were Microsoft, they would have received a coupon for 10% off a Thanksgiving turkey, only redeemable in 2030 and only in the month of March, must be purchased with cash, non-transferrable.
He knows how corrupt the whole party is. He needs to keep them in power so he can keep getting what he wants. Even if it weren't corruption, he knows how to manipulate them at this point to play to their side of, "If it hurts Americans or hurts Democrats, then let's do it."
Re:Google is illegaly cutting forest to build data centers on Sunday October 11, 2026 @10:34PM (#50050641)
That photo looks horrible. Of all places, why cut down a ton of trees to build a data center. I hope the trees were used to build housing for the homeless or something. Maybe a youth center at least?

I don’t know much about Findland, so maybe there are trees everywhere.

Re:How Protein Took over the World on Saturday October 10, 2026 @04:36PM (#50036903)
100% due to marketing, influencers, and people wanting to make money.

I remember reading an article from a couple that were professional body builders. It was pretty insightful. I also will not forget that they said they never once drank protein shakes. All of their protein came from their diets, such as eating turkey and other foods.

Also, most people don’t work out hard enough to need a protein shake. It’s usually just extra calories and ultimately turning into fat.

Re:Meta and Microsoft Limit Employee Use of Claude AI Tools on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @11:02PM (#50001483)
You make a good point. That’s why there is AI fatigue. People are moving at speeds that aren’t normal and it’s mentally taxing.

If it’s not already a thing, it will be soon, the mental health aspects of all professions moving at unsustainable speeds and what that will do to people.

Really clever! Definitely feels like positive hacker creativity. Thanks for making it open source.

Re:A sustainable web career, for when all this blows over on Tuesday October 06, 2026 @11:17PM (#49987677)
The web is hostile to humans now.

The internet accomplished the mission.

As an example, a doctor submitting a prescription over the internet during someone’s visit. I’m sure that was in someone’s presentation as a futuristic feat the internet would help accomplish one day.

The internet is used on constant basis that we don’t even realize anymore.

Whoa, this looks pretty cool.
Very cool! Clever idea.
