What about all of the people internationally who were impacted by this? If American companies are distributing dangerous products overseas they should be held to full account for that as well.

Plastic gears running against plastic gears wear down over time because of friction and that creates dust. I have seen some retro modding solutions to this problem that add lubricant to the gear box to significantly reduce friction and wear.

All of the food consumed in Vegas has to get shipped in. That is not efficiency. In what universe are golf courses in the desert efficient?

Probably because from their side that behavior looks no different from certain types of attacks that they are familiar with and are actively working to block?
Wouldn't they be FDIC insured?

Instead of speculating about what the tally might look like and making assumptions based on your guesses maybe you should get real data to validate your hypothesis?

Re:UPS and the Package Wars on Monday January 09, 2023 @09:38PM (#34319741)
UPS has a good union. It is usually the same driver on the same route and they know what they're doing. I don't know what happened with FedEx and their union but it always seems to be a different driver who is not confident. For residential service anyway. Amazon pits multiple local 3rd party carriers against each other in a race to the bottom in both quality of service and labor quality of life. Really shameful behavior by Bezos IMHO.

Re:Orion has splashed down off the coast of Baja, California on Wednesday December 14, 2022 @02:33AM (#33980983)
My thought was that the first mile up would be the hardest to get through because of being closest to the Earth's center. And isn't it something like 1% of the distance that they need to reach for "cheap" horizontal acceleration?

Very interesting! Such a thoughtful and thorough response. Thank you.

Why do they launch from sea level instead of a high elevation?
"We find irrigation of cattle-feed crops to be the greatest consumer of river water in the western United States, implicating beef and dairy consumption as the leading driver of water shortages and fish imperilment in the region. We assess opportunities for alleviating water scarcity by reducing cattle-feed production, finding that temporary, rotational fallowing of irrigated feed crops can markedly reduce water shortage risks and improve ecological sustainability. Long-term water security and river ecosystem health will ultimately require Americans to consume less beef that depends on irrigated feed crops."

The problem is scale and cumulative effects.
The water usage requirements and methane emissions present challenges to sustainability.

Re:Ask HN: DALL-E was trained on watermarked stock images? on Wednesday August 24, 2022 @10:53AM (#32580225)
Seems more likely to me that they add uploaded images into their data set and someone uploaded a watermarked image.
