Re:The new iPad mini on Monday October 26, 2026 @10:29PM (#50254051)
the irony is that 120hz screens are actually 1-120hz vs constant 60hz which makes it more battery efficient most of the time except for when you're scrolling
Re:iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27 on Monday September 14, 2026 @09:45PM (#49706706)
does anyone have wifi disconnect all the time on the iPhone/iOS 27? been happening since Dev Betas and seems to still happen all the time for me at home.

thanks Gmail for Google Workspace for pulling Brian's threads when searched for `boltzmann-brain`.

but yeah, if you bump the thread with `html5cat` mentioned i'll personally look into it – my goal is to respond to every earnestly submitted application despite the sea of AI slop.

update: found your email – definitely well written but didn't have GitHub so it got skipped.

Re:Ask HN: Who is hiring? (September 2026) on Monday September 07, 2026 @02:48PM (#49601613)
Which of these two are not generic? There's dozens you spammed us and other startup founders with. Some are just empty emails with just CV. None were sent in Feb fyi.

"I have attached my resume in response to your posting. I am interested in interviewing ASAP."

"Good afternoon, I saw your post on HackerNews and I am interested in interviewing. Best, Brian"

Re:Ask HN: Who is hiring? (September 2026) on Sunday September 06, 2026 @03:40AM (#49584159)
try counting how many "I"/"my" you have even in just this comment compared to "team" or "Puma" or "users/customers".

instead of bumping the email thread you decide to put this all publicly. ok. but if you want to be pedantic, our HN post includes "what you'd like to build next?" which you conveniently skipped.

if you read our website, the application there includes "Why I’m interested to join Puma?".

you seem to care much more about being right than making progress or being helpful. i hope you change your approach since you clearly can build things.

Re:Ask HN: Who is hiring? (September 2026) on Thursday September 03, 2026 @03:04PM (#49555031)
found your thread – your email covers things you did, but nothing about "why Puma" or other simple questions we ask. seems like one sided, generic mass application. impressive background, but didn't seem like you care about what we're building.
Re:Ask HN: Who is hiring? (September 2026) on Thursday September 03, 2026 @02:59PM (#49554955)
your first two application were generic and ignored the few basic questions that we ask in the posting, thus subsequent one didn't get reviewed
Re:Ask HN: Who is hiring? (September 2026) on Wednesday September 02, 2026 @10:36PM (#49545296)
apologies, we've got a lot of ai-generated applications in the last few months so might have missed it. mind bumping the thread and mention `html5cat` and i'll make sure we look into it?

thank you!

it is free though, no? am i missing something?
Re:Quake – 30th Anniversary Update on Friday August 07, 2026 @03:32AM (#49207053)
If i understand correctly Bethesda has the original IP and would just need a regular apple dev account if they wanted to publish, no?
Re:Quake – 30th Anniversary Update on Thursday August 06, 2026 @05:33PM (#49202886)
Surprised they didn't port these to Mac yet. Between M series and Game Porting Toolkit (4 now?) it seems like small effort can unlock huge wave of new players nostalgic for childhood game.
Interesting how Tang Yew Tan worked at Apple for 25 years (!!) and then threw it all out for this.

Awesome idea! Will try it out. Wish there was a way to enable low power on a per-app basis. Scrolling and reading on low power mode is really annoying.

OpenRA is amazing. Sort of related, recently discovered a great remake of Heroes of Might and Magic II:

Maybe it's ok to upgrade an o($100) device once after, checks notes, 14 years? Incredible longevity compared to any other device

Original Pixelbook was amazing and my fam still uses it. Wish they just stuck to the lineup and kept iterating vs giving up and trying to rebrand every few years.

probably same for other post-soviet countries too?

Not all heroes wear capes. This is excellent and can't wait to get aluminium mac next to try it – don't think Space Black is a good way to go.

Author's another post on "The Seasons are Wrong" [0] is excellent too and I fully support both approaches.

yeah, this was a one time sync. which source do you prefer for full list? and for thumbnail view, would you like a T shortcut or any other button?

It's a bit tricky to navigate between all the amazing photos NASA Artemis crew captured so I vibe coded (Codex) a simple site with full screen full res view and arrow navigation:

feedback welcome
