What kind of books are on here? I can find what im looking for ~90% of the time on libgen
Uh oh the humans are on to us
This is what really concerns me when i read about climate change. If global ocean currents change it can dramatically effect weather patterns. This could have devastating ecological implications and could be equally devastating for agriculture. When it comes to biology collapse is quick and recovery is slow.
Shouldn't everyones pleas mean something?
Re:You might not need machine learning on Tuesday November 24, 2020 @12:44PM (#25200829)
In cases like this and many other cases i feel like the purpose of the machine learning algorithm should be to find a simplified polynomial function. I remember reading a paper in which an “AI physicist” was created and it would reduce complex machine learning models into simple equations that would explain the physics of a simulation. It would reduce the complex simulation into human readable and potentially more useful and predictive “laws” of physics.
This does seem like a potential path towards transmutation
Re:Unraveling the Mindset of Victimhood on Wednesday August 12, 2020 @02:48PM (#24135402)
It's just about the perception of injustice. A privileged person facing minor injustices could completely have this mindset. In fact I've met many many people like this.

A journalist came up with this concept at the World Economic Forum, I think it was fractal poverty??, and it was this observation that from the poorest people in the world to the absolute richest there was this sense that they were excluded from and oppressed by someone more powerful. Absolutely anyone can feel this way.

people have already been getting covid twice
We should have been doing this all along

Currently writing Chemistry software for the United States EPA. I specialize in Computational Toxicology, and would love to continue doing something similar that can use my expertise. I also have a lot of experience using machine learning and data science in chemistry.

Looking for full remote work, but would also be willing to relocate after September.

What does this mean? I can shape a network some other way?
Re:Analyzing Hacker News book suggestions in Python on Tuesday December 18, 2018 @12:08PM (#18708223)
The third book is completely different from his results. In the article the third most recommend book is actually "Magi: Uncovering the Secret Society That Read the Birth of Jesus in the Stars Paperback – September 1, 2002 by Adrian Gilbert"
Many frying pans are coated with perfluorinated compounds. You would also see these on many other non-stick coatings like goretex product for example. Exposure from frying pans and jackets will be much lower than people near industrial sources. However, these compounds are extremely persistent and will accumulate in your body throughout your whole lifetime. This is definitely something people should be concerned about.
yeah but were not talking about university students

are you a scientist or a school teacher?

Re:Suicide increasing among American workers on Thursday November 15, 2018 @03:22PM (#18462920)
How are they making these categories of workers?

> Farmers, Ranchers, and Other Occupational Managers category (a sub-group of the Management major group)

> Agricultural Workers category (a sub-group of the Farming, Fishing, and Forestry major group)

Farmers aren't in the Farming major group? I'd like to see a little more detail here

Re:Magenta Studio (Beta): Music Generation Using Tensorflow on Tuesday November 13, 2018 @02:37PM (#18444118)
I think a lot of people are interested in exactly this. Alternatively, I'd be interested in simply training on heart rate or even a person physically pressing a button when they're enjoying the music.
maybe put two devices inside the body, and if they change orientation or distance too greatly they will no longer function.
Re:Ask HN: What are some of the best documentaries you've seen? on Thursday September 27, 2018 @02:43PM (#18087458)
thought maybe has amazing documentaries. It's a shame these aren't easily available elsewhere. I'm horrified this website will go away, and I'll lose access to all these documentaries.

I just watched "The Idiot Cycle" which was very good. https://thoughtmaybe.com/the-idiot-cycle/

The TMS product they are using to stimulate the receivers brain is pretty interesting.

https://www.magstim.com/products/

I'm pretty skeptical that you could use magnetism to transfer any sort of useful information into someone's brain. I'm guessing it just gives a sensation, or maybe some vague visual effect since it is used on the occipital lobe in this experiment.

I'm going to mail one to the oval office. I think spirographs could save us from nuclear war.
sounds like they're cracking down on vpns as well

I really like this conclusion paragraph. I definitely feel that everything I do through my phone is a much worse version than if I had just done them irl. Socializing is the biggest one. It makes me very happy to be with friends, but when I check up on people through FB etc I may get some instant gratification but it really just leaves me a little depressed in the end.

Re:Is artificial intelligence permanently inscrutable? on Thursday September 01, 2016 @03:17PM (#12408087)
I can't even understand why deep learning creates better predictions than regular neural nets. How does adding layers change anything?
