News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

hootz

Wasn't death a requirement for us to reach this current stage of human evolution? I don't think it is a good idea to stop it entirely.
It's neural piracy, and I am down for it.
Well, in the case of LightCraft, some basic things like processing raw photos. It seems to be struggling with processing them compared to older software, it's kinda slow and glitchy. But it's in a really early stage, support for the CR3 format (the one I need) was just added like 2 days ago.
I do use it sometimes! But I dislike the UX. RawTherapee feels better, but it still feels weird compared to Lightroom. LightCraft is basically a Lightroom clone, so everything feels familiar and standard. The problem is that a bunch of stuff is still missing and/or buggy.
And they are already really useful, even in an extremely buggy alpha state. LightCraft is already working pretty well for a photography hobbyist like me. Can't wait to see the state of this software suite in 6 months.
But it is real, we have no power. To get power, we must seize it from the people who do. Voting in an electoral system controlled by the people in power is not power.
Our generation? This is a mode of production problem, we have no real power, the perpetrators do.

Bun is joining Anthropic! Deno is joining Cloudflare! Uv is joining OpenAI!

Back to Node, I guess.

What an amazing idea for the next fake sandbox escape to hype up our new release! With the added bonus of providing an open model without becoming an open model company! Thank you!

Yeah, one of the reasons why I chose my current Acer laptop was that it didn't come with Windows pre-installed. That made it cheaper and I didn't have to give money to Microsoft.
They do get paid, they are employees and get a salary. I pay for the premium plan and that funds the company.
Paywalling all content sucks, it just makes me leave the website. I pay for a news website from my country that gives me extra cool stuff like opinion articles and cultural highlights from my city, not because they paywall the basic news.
Would be great to have this, but as a TUI tabular editor.

Did it always have this music? I don't remember it having music.
Re:Donate to GrapheneOS on Thursday July 30, 2026 @10:00AM (#49110155)
I don't know how to do that, so I will just get a normal phone and consider it permanently compromised.
Re:Donate to GrapheneOS on Tuesday July 28, 2026 @04:45PM (#49089688)
I would if I could even use their OS. Pixel phones are not available in my country and to import them is to pay 3x the amount I would spend on another phone.
There are workarounds for all of those things up until the point of you suffering violence for just using any encryption. But if you are at that point, then your country is completely fucked.

My nephew grew 7 cm in one year and 10 cm in another, so by 2040 he will be 4 meters tall!
Why would someone ever buy new, if that was the case?

I thought this was spam, but no, it's just a fun hack to fix mistyped commands. Cool.
Re:Why I Stopped Arguing with People on Wednesday July 01, 2026 @10:06AM (#48747034)
That leads to political disaster. Changing just myself has an almost unnoticeable effect on the collective life, while political organization, action and propaganda work much better, and those rely on arguments and persuasion.

Of course, the author seems to have a pretty individualistic mind, comparing the political nature of humans to startups and markets, and that will lead to disaster in my opinion. We cannot survive in the long-term like that.

DK Bananza is wonderful, a masterpiece. Pokémon Pokopia is also really fun as a recurring game you come back to every day or every couple of days to relax and build your village. I'm also enjoying Switch 1 games on it. Pokémon Violet, for example, lagged hard on Switch 1 but runs great on Switch 2.
Good job on replacing AI with machine learning in the title. If we say "AI finds hidden ECG signal", I believe most people nowadays will assume ChatGPT or Claude found it.

Always a great thing to hear. Well paid employees, good results, and I'm definitely loving their Switch 2 releases already.
To be honest, they are pretty cute, they don't deserve cancer.
It's our Nostradamus Prophecies, just like having an old Star Trek episode for everything that is happening today.
Nah, it works, it's just a higher level of political abstraction, but we still tend to use left and right because those words seem to be accurate enough to be worthwhile.

We could use something like the political compass, but on that model we still tend to ignore the authoritarianism axis and just say everything to the left is the left and everything to the right is the right. Left is progressive, right is conservative.

Your US company banning usage of non-american models. Other than that, no.
Re:We Are the Last People Who Know How It Works on Tuesday June 30, 2026 @03:05PM (#48737723)
Amazing how we always have a Trek episode for everything.
Re:We Are the Last People Who Know How It Works on Tuesday June 30, 2026 @02:02PM (#48736659)
Yeah, I don't think human curiosity can be extinguished. It can be disincentivized, yes, but not extinguished. Nerds will always be nerds.
