Re:Ask HN: What hardware are you using to run local LLMs? on Monday November 02, 2026 @05:21PM (#50344759)
Got a refurbished M1 Max 64GB for less than USD 1,000 some years ago; runs medium models at decent speed. Large ones are out of the question.
Same here, my M1 Max 64GB beats the s*t out of my work-provided M5 16GB :P

Best computer I've had in a long time.

50-60 hours plus two small children, no way you can have side projects and live to tell your children the story in 10 years.

That is, start looking at your mental & physical health, start cutting hours, then you can evaluate investing time in learning something you want.

As for Leetcode, I’m no fan, unless you’re looking to get a job in a FAANG-like entity, invest your time in something else.

Computer Engineer with 16+ years of experience, focused on backend engineering for the past 7 years in adtech & gaming; besides that, I have expertise developing mobile videogames, web, geographic information systems, multimedia & network systems programming.

Same questions here.

This other day I was interviewing with a recruiter for a Go dev position, then she asked "what is a map?", couldn't believe such a basic question was being asked, proceeded to explain, then asked her why such a basic question; she said most applicants couldn't tell her what a map was (shock face).

Next question was "what is a hash table?", even more shock...

I'm a Computer Engineer who started to program when I was 12 in a 286.

Probably mostly companies stuck with long-term contracts.

The global company I work at uses it, they have an enterprise-wide contract. Migrating to something else is just a massive PITA, extra costs & sure downtime.

Which driver / solution were you using?

Mexican here, in my country these type of "evidences" are harder to support / enforce, as long as your lawyer / you are willing to provide enough scientific indication they're not reliable, those evidences are dismissed.

Of course, as any country, there's corruption at every level.

Wonder what's the stance of other countries?

Indeed, yet it sometimes gets annoying; you see a nice promotion somewhere only to find out "not available in Québec" :(

Re:Ask HN: Is all of FAANG like this? on Thursday July 23, 2020 @11:04AM (#23928068)
Hard to tell, I would guess most large well-established companies have situations / teams like this.

I work for a large videogame company, things are more or less the same, except we have two clear modes of operation among teams: * "production" (gameteams themselves), work in frantic mode all the time (crunch time being very common) * all other teams, work in glacial mode, technical debt is pretty high, same as your situation

When I started, it was my dream job. Years later...

Quite difficult to find a dream job and maintain that state of mind for long.

I would suggest you speak to your manager(s) and find / create some new projects, be creative and proactive.

Or, your current job may not really make you happy and you'll need to find something else to do.

Have this one, usually it happens every few years; I've correlated it to stressful / extreme tiredness situations.

For me it's always: All black -> loud bang -> flash of light

A few times there were a heat sensation, tingling.

Once I hard punched a friend who was sitting beside me after "waking up":/

Indeed... except, my eyes!!! The combo of font / size / spacing / coloring makes reading this site quite difficult.

It's not a signing code, votes are truly anonymous; it's the unique serial of the physical card and one of the various citizen IDs used in the country.

These numbers are typically abused in mass fraud for government monetary/physical goods assistance programs.
