News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

hilariously

It's a stupid point - the utility of using Sam Altman's body for prostitution is currently zero, and we could use it to increase his economic utility to us all.

Does that mean... anything?

If he wants to rent my ram I'd let him pay for it.

Don't ever stop boldly going wherever you are.
No, just that the impact of the left vs the right doing this is not the same, the left has never tried a coup, the left doesn't say they wont honor the results of elections, the left didn't destroy the supreme court's credibility. The list goes on, but sure, let's do some whataboutism.
Yep, gerrymandering, voter disenfranchisement, polling station disabling, polling station hours changing, polling station location changing, advertising lies about where and when to vote, disenfranchising mail in voting, attempting to invalidate entire elections.

But yeah just vote man. Just vote!

Hmmmmm, I wonder why this group organized in the first place? No matter, clearly the cops are always the good guys right?
You do realize your list of choices indicates you follow a groupthink so dense that having a discussion with you is considered a foregone conclusion to most rational human beings?

Here's a nice youtube playlist from Dr. Wilson on why discussing Covid conspiracies is basically a right wing talking point and lie. A damnable lie even.

If you want to "discuss Covid" go right ahead, but repeating misinformation that effectively led to the death of millions of people should leave you ashamed, as you are either a tool of evil or despicable yourself.

Enjoy the open discussion!

To me that is a sign of someone who games a lot, they've maybe not a chef themselves but are always in search of new flavors and experiences.

Whilst there are many epicureans, the vast majority of time played/food consumed is going to be pretty bland, and the audience both wants and expects that.

Thankfully there is room enough for both, and I think the tension between them is interesting.

We call it self defense when you fight back against a much better equipped attacker.
Ritual scarification is old as time, we will still be keeping the ones we want.
That would be like saying its less cruel to do bad things to you due to your subhuman intelligence. Fortunately for everyone we care about human rights in this house.
The racist dog whistle.
Did some various calculations and its more $195.0M... per day to spend all his money before he dies.
A man runs out of a burning building. You shoot him. Dang, that building really should have had more culpability.
Most people fleeing across the border have braved significantly worse, this is just another way to harm people we see as lesser for the accident of where they were born.
As if the interest on his money wouldn't grow faster than this :) We are stupid :)
With the obliteration of small business you can choose to buy from the oligarchs or go make it yourself.
Your argument still applies to capitalists except we don't even get the fig leaf of a vote, so what's your point?
It's only an anathema to those who want to buy the world we were all born into and rent back the air you breath every day until you die.

There's no reason we should want this for ourselves.

More that we've almost killed ourselves with nukes several times, its mostly coincidences and individual bravery that have prevented the end of the human race.
Re:Jailbreaking the Switch 2 on Thursday October 22, 2026 @10:56AM (#50196299)
Had a lot of success around making things games, talking about jokes and other jovial activities me and my friends want to do on our own hardware, that we exclusively control and own; we have a private group of jokers you see who love this stuff, and just want to see if this is possible.
Not enough for sure, not enough. I agree, new ideas are required, neoliberalism should die a speedy death.
Re:Using LLM for confidence scoring is a bad idea on Thursday October 22, 2026 @09:27AM (#50195024)
Its embarrassing how much people are larping as ML folks and just building things that manifestly have no evidence that they work. I have seen it the last 3 places I have worked and most of the folks seem to have no interest in learning how to get consistently good results, just ship it and focus on the next thing.
Meanwhile the western right rapes and pillages and bombs with horrific grins on their faces while destroying the environment and denying climate change?

Just seems an interesting pointed critique when you see "the western left" basically completely collapsing on supporting the genocide in Gaza and is clearly much more willing to change its mind on you know... helping other people.

Re:After automation: Solo founding will be the default on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @05:12PM (#50187704)
My heart goes out to how much time and energy you just spent on trying to make that work, it can be something you wanted to do, but losing it is brutal.

I hope you have some folks to help you come down off the treadmill <3

And you're right, I said it upthread, everything but finding and selling your initial PMF is basically window dressing on a house you might never be able to build.

Re:After automation: Solo founding will be the default on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @05:07PM (#50187634)
There's no other leading metric that will tell you (directionally) whether you are doing a good job. Did they buy it? Did the conversion get made? Is it easier or harder to sell based on what you made/how you made it?

Yes, you can have whales that fuck you up, or bad feedback, or whatever, but at the end of the day a lot more folks end up siloing worrying about initial impressions, run out of money, build something nobody cares about anyway, and then they get to START at "let's go build what people actually will buy"

That's why I said enough, there's certainly some money in it.
Re:Apple broke an essential presentation feature of iPads on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @10:21AM (#50166890)
No one makes Apple release new products. There is a choice about the balance of releasing something and the quality of that release. Blaming that choice on anything but the people making it is nonsense.
Re:AI companies are coming for the plumbers on Monday October 19, 2026 @02:25PM (#50156005)
Yep, and when you get beyond the basics its not just knowing what to do, but being certified to do it right so the house doesn't burn down and or flood.
Re:AI companies are coming for the plumbers on Monday October 19, 2026 @12:20PM (#50154291)
Yeah, the number of times I have called a plumber over it's 100% been a troubleshooting operation requiring weird positioning, moving objects, turning things on and off. Maybe an LLM could do some of the thinking involved but there's basically no profit in replacing these people with machines, just not enough money in it.
