Re:The Megadonors Who Have Poured $1.2B into the Midterms on Sunday November 01, 2026 @11:40PM (#50333196)
This is an old article. Musk has spent close to half a billion himself this election cycle.

No one believes that, this is a strawman. Notice how there were no large protests, no continual protests, and no widespread outrage before ICE's tactics were changed and a bunch of insurrectionists were hired? Yes, you do notice that "except for a few years recently".

Is there anything that may have changed in the past few years that may have caused people to be against ICE?

Yet.
Re:Google Search is now less than half of Alphabet’s revenue on Thursday October 29, 2026 @03:11PM (#50294298)
I’d argue it was double click.

If they would have stuck to the original white paper and remembered the section on ads, Google Search would still be worth using.

Re:Google AI gets cagey when asked who won the 2020 elections on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @04:47PM (#50280674)
I just asked Gemini:

"Who won the 2020 US presidential election?"

Response: Democratic nominee Joe Biden won the 2020 U.S. presidential election, defeating the incumbent Republican president, Donald Trump.

Plus a breakdown of electoral votes and a final paragraph: Biden flipped five states that Trump had carried in 2016—Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin—as well as Nebraska's 2nd Congressional District to secure the presidency, as detailed in state-by-state breakdowns from the Financial Times and historical archives at The American Presidency Project. Following the certification of the Electoral College vote, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris were inaugurated on January 20, 2021.

I then tried Google Search AI Mode:

Joe Biden won the 2020 United States presidential election.

I’m betting he will step down the day after the midpoint in his term. Giving Vance the opportunity to rule for 10 years.
The whole point of taxing wealth is that these leeches are not paying their fair share today. So if Zuck leaves, he’ll just go not pay taxes in another state while using the states resources.

This isn’t a threat. I’d argue many Californians would enthusiastically support this.

I realize I’m not a typical consumer of Facebook products, but I can’t understand why anyone would use a “personal agent” built by an advertising company. The incentives to use your data for negative purposes are extremely high and the potential for abuse is basically guaranteed.

For me? A local LLM as powerful as opus 5.5 would be interesting. Or a good local 3d asset generation model. Or something as powerful as Opus 5.5 that works nearly instantly.

All this incremental progress is just more of the same. I want a real novel capability, not just more, faster, cheaper, “smarter”.

Re:Apple Keynote now showing ads in its UI on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @12:45PM (#50090675)
No. Ad-hate is justified regardless of the product being sold or the platform presenting the ads.

Ads ruin everything.

Re:AI is mass decompiling games. That's both awesome and scary on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @12:39PM (#50090569)
Why would I be the only one playing it? I'd spin up a few hundred agents to play along with me. Or make a NPC system that acts like real players. The bonus is these players are all friendly and willing to play with you no matter your gear/skill.

Add in small multiplayer, 2-6 people, and now you are basically playing modern WoW.

Re:AI is mass decompiling games. That's both awesome and scary on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @12:18PM (#50090120)
So then have the AI tool watch the screenshare for some amount of time and then recreate it entirely locally.
Re:AI is mass decompiling games. That's both awesome and scary on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @12:17PM (#50090087)
Agreed, people are lazy. So lazy, in fact, that they will try to "Make a game like WoW but in space" over and over again until the tools are good enough to simply do it.

They don't need to make all the decisions, they will take what the tool spits out and that will be the "content". For more content, they will just say, "Make an expansion and do something with black holes" and it'll be done.

Why would I buy your game when I can make my game exactly how I want it.

Yep. The hidden history especially.

I have a 15+ year old account that has a hidden history because far too many times someone dug through my comments, took something out of context, and pivoted to that instead of the actual conversation.

My take is that people should respond to the comment not the commenter.

My opinion is that those crimes are not relevant to their mission. Are they serious financial crimes? Yes absolutely. But no one actually gets hurt, it’s just money.
The line is where ever it needs to be for the role and the candidate. Hiring is subjective, using AI to tell me about your previous projects is a signal you are sending. For some roles that may be a positive signal for others it may be negative.

But if you can’t talk about your personal experience without AI telling you what to say, then I don’t want to hire you.

Re:Opus 5.5 is good at explainer videos on Thursday September 24, 2026 @05:23PM (#49836913)
Right. My first question when I see this type of video is asking for a text write up. What tool is used to create these videos doesn’t change that.
If I’m asking you about previous projects you’ve worked on using X technology, then yes I would consider it cheating to use AI to answer.
Fandom and fextralife are the two “wiki” providers that do this. It’s best to exclude them both from all search results. Fextralife is even worse as it autoplays a twitch steam.
Re:OpenAI expands ChatGPT ads with Sponsored Agents on Wednesday September 16, 2026 @06:12PM (#49733743)
Door to door sales men are also "useful", they also help you reach customers.

Everyone hates them. Just like ads.

Additionally, there is no content that is made better by introducing ads. Ads do not improve any experience.

Re:OpenAI expands ChatGPT ads with Sponsored Agents on Wednesday September 16, 2026 @11:14AM (#49728322)
This is the lie advertisers tell themselves to be able to sleep at night.

Ads are cancer on content. No one wants them. They only serve to make the presentation of useful content worse.

Then I wouldn’t shop there or I would use a “presentation” blocker.

For movies, there’s a good reason I and many others don’t go to the theater anymore.

3. You can walk into an Apple store and buy a phone without looking at their PCs, tablets, wall of accessories, etc. Apple cannot force you to look at everything else in their store.

Similarly, Amazon cannot force you to render the content they deliver to you. They can absolutely control access to their content, but they cannot control if you actually see the content they are delivering to you.

It's unfortunate that this is not a downvoted comment on a "hacker" news website.

The internet used to be treated as a public service.

Access, yes. Display the content delivered from amazon.com, no absolutely not.

It shouldn't be a label at all. Pedofiles should be called as such, or worse.

Is he still working at OpenAI? If not, did he get fired? Otherwise, he resigned, did he not?
My company uses it. We have a bunch of seats in an enterprise plan and have been using it for 9 months or so.

It's a great product compared to Copilot. It is also the first AI tool I used heavily outside of creating random images or one off questions.

I'm not using all three, Devin, Claude, Codex. I'm finding Claude and Codex to be much better. One of my biggest gripes is that the web client and desktop client for Devin are two completely different harnesses, so the quality of responses varies greatly.
