Re:Amazon destroys $1.5m of sellers inventory – now homeless on Wednesday October 28, 2020 @07:31PM (#24925372)
Imagine if they treat AWS customers this way this doesn't seem like the most customer obsessed company

Re:How I survived being a $220k/year intern on Sunday March 08, 2020 @04:56PM (#22520568)
Damn I had an offer from them years ago. I should have took it. I don't mind making that much for doing little that's plenty of free time for my side projects....this guy could have used his time wisely and never complain about it ...you can't force companies to be good employers or successful at what they do obviously this company had major red flags you could have left quietly long time and find a more fulfilling role ...otherwise shut up and take the money and use that free time to do great things if you are capable
These are just numbers tech managers throw around to look good to their superiors. Just hire really good engineers and let them decide what's best.

Re:Microsoft Is Winning the ‘Cloud War’ Against Amazon on Wednesday January 08, 2020 @07:20AM (#21990719)

Re:SuperShuttle is going out of business on Saturday December 14, 2019 @12:36PM (#21790742)
They had $20 dollar rebate that was really hard to claim and had relations with a shady company called Great Fun I'm sure pissed of many customers ...don't blame Uber or the new stuff... SuperShuttle thrived in era where there was little real competition but company had mismanagement issues, bad employees, and it was not innovative and when competition came along they just tanked
How was this data collected?
The writer is a typical stock speculator not a real technical analyist. This is just another mesh of buzzwords to get stocks going for momentum trading

Re:Stop using low DNS TTLs on Sunday November 03, 2019 @10:05PM (#21438683)
What if you accidently make changes to your authoritative nameserver you want the recovery to be as fast possible because it's a complete outage
Another sign of authoritative police state with absolute power over citizens. We allowed this through the people we elected. Shame.

Re:From FOMO to JOMO: the joy of missing out on Saturday September 07, 2019 @05:16PM (#20906568)
At the end of the day people will do whatever makes them happy. Life is not black and white and it's different with every person, if you feel FOMO is a problem in your life change it otherwise keep it up if it makes you happy, I don't necessarily view it as a negative thing. Although I have never heard of these terms I am in my early 30s and I think JOMO has been my way of life since I can remember its what makes me happy. I'm not anti social but I haven't made new friends in a long time and spend little time on social media. The few close friends I have, I've known them for 15-20 years, right now I spend 80% of my free time alone indulging in my personal projects and activities I enjoy and 20% with those close friends and family and this balance has been working for me so far.
Every engineer has probably thought at some point in their career what's the point of the manager? Managers are basically extensions and the eyes and ears of upper management which doesn't scale very well... they are there to communicate the vision and pass the word, ensure work is delivered consistently, employees are happy or have just about enough incentive to stay...some may go above and beyond into coaching their reports if they care but sinply it's all about making sure the team doesn't fuck up and looks good to the boss...
