I actually think this is a good thing. While the technical side is important, I think that having a person who the team gets along with and has a similar mindset is more important than ever.
Technical gaps will always be there, and people will have to work with those and learn.
Maybe I am just talking from the perspective of a SWE that is not exceptional, but this is my feeling.
Yeah, we are trying to do that with our oldest, but he might still be a bit young (4)?. But that's essentially what we are trying to do: coming out of bed is your choice and everytime whether will be a consequence. No cartoons, or no books before bed, or stuff like that. We also tried to give him a timeout: if you come out, then you'll sit on this chair facing the wall doing nothing. No talking, no interactions. This last one seems to be somewhat effective. At some point he realizes he's bored and he tells ok "Ok I want to go to bed".
Yeah parenting is hard. Overall my kids are not bad behaved, it's just that this being stressful period it adds up.
Thanks :)
Not that good. Struggling at work. We had a series of hard issues in a row and I felt being accused for poor work in the past, when while it is true I should have understood technical stuff in the past better, a lot of this was due to technical debt.
I am seeing the end of the tunnel, but I hope nothing else comes up for a while or I'll have a mental breakdown.
On top of this I'm struggling with my little kids. They are giving us a hard time going to bed on time, keep coming up, and I get frustrated with them and hate myself after because I have a reaction and get mad at them.
I just hope this period passes soon.
Also Starlink is pretty cool
I don't like the person, but his vision on SpaceX is incredible
wait, what is wrong with that?
My nephew had multiple heart surgery, and after the last one, he kept having the wound release liquids. For months, they just medicated the wound regularly hoping it would solve by itself. At last, they decided for a cleaning surgery, and a pediatric specialist came from Rome and apparently brought something like "fish sheets" to "cover the wound while it heals.
I generally don't, I have other things to do in life. Family, kids, hobbies etc.
I'd say if you feel stuck and feel like you are not progressing, it might the right time to look for a new challenge?
No expert at all here. But could I use this to say, model my room and understand how to treat it acoustically to remove reflections and stuff like that?
I am married to an american but we are leaving abroad and we never started the process for me to get a green card as we didn't plan to move to the US yet. Is it true that when I apply and get the card I then have a limited amount of time to move in, and if I don't then I would have to start the whole process again?
In general I also agree with this one, however I think that if a team really wants to enforce this, then at the very minimum should suggest the IDE to use and the settings to automatically correct formatting.
I suggest implementing a linter/formatter tool to be used with a pre-commit hook, so that it runs automatically and checks for this stuff automatically, avoiding you having to do it manually (mostly)
Flights are cheap for me to Poznan. Is it worth visiting other then this museum?
i went there while in a summer school in Reading. Loved it and highly recommended! One of the things I remember was an exibith on how pidgeons were used in WWII
Please tell this to mediaval towns in Italy.
Yeah I think MIDI is your best option. Essentially you have to have a piezo connected to the surface your hitting, than I guess I would investigate linking it to an Arduino that recognizes and processes the hits and transforms it in MIDI data
Does it apply also for foreigners? Maybe it's more of a thing for japanese people?
Pomodoro for me doesn't work. I find that interrupting every 25 mins distracts me and then I need to spend energy to go back into what I was doing.
My go to is having 1-1:30 hour sessions where I am really focused and don't get distracted.
I might be missing something here, but what do you mean by this?
"One defect that has bothered me about BW is that to unlock the vault, locally, you have to be able to contact the BW server."
If my device is offline I can still unlock the vault and access my passwords.
Thank god that is my stack :D
Some people do use KeePass exactly because of your saying. I have multiple devices and I like the easiness of use. I do not have to remmyto perform backups etc. it's all taken care of.
I'm Italian but married with a US citizen. I found out that the recipe essentially is:
- Turkey
- Butter on the outside
- Butter on the inside
- More butter
ahahha I love your collection, gotta start one.
Absolutely normal for me. And it's definetly not productive vs lazy, it's a spectrum
What kind of European universities do that and how do I find them? I've been a lab assistant at a university before and would like to evaluate this opportunity
Yeah, it builds up over time. I do not take any medication on a schedule, but over years you stack up ibuprofen and stuff like that.
Every single person I know has a drug drawer with expired drugs.
