I honestly don't care anymore. No matter how hard I try nothing ever gets better. If AI eases the burden even a little I'll take it. Persistenting at hard things hasn't made my life any better yet.

Oh man, Ra was fantastic. I love when you learn why magic was discovered in the year it was. It took me ages to correlate the two seemingly completely separate stories going on.
I love Odysseus so much. On one hand I think it sounds amazing and would love the opportunity to play it one day.

On the other, from a technical accomplishment of volunteer work it is amazing! Just the IT work alone. Here's a video I found years ago by one of the volunteers talking about the work they put into the electronics.

Re:2026 will be my year of the Linux desktop on Friday January 02, 2026 @09:50PM (#46472306)
Maybe someone here knows a solution. The ONLY thing keeping me on windows is that my employer uses F5/Big IP edge clients. I cannot find a Linux client that can also handle Web SSO. Does anyone have any Linux experience with this?
Re:"Butt breathing" might soon be a real medical treatment on Tuesday October 21, 2025 @09:24PM (#45663917)
From the littlei know from a breath holding workshop I did awhile ago (for trying to get into freediving) it's the carbon dioxide build up in our blood that gives us the urge to breath, and not the lack of oxygen. If this method allowed for the removal of carbon dioxide from the blood then holding your breath might not even be discomforting.

Edit: goodells explained it better!

Re:Obsidian Bases on Monday August 18, 2025 @10:45PM (#44947743)
I was kinda similar when I first started using it. I watched heaps of videos and had so many plugins installed but I was never really sure if I was doing it "right". Then one day I got annoyed and uninstalled every plugin and just went back to basics. I only reach for plugins when I feel something is missing, but honestly the only plugins I use are Style Settings which let's me customize the theme a bit more and Calendar so I can have... well... a calendar.

I think the real power of it is the fact you can extend as much, or as little as you want!

Thanks! I'm guessing it's blocked on your work/uni network too? Stupid over-eager firewall.

I know technology has come a long way, but it is amazing to me that they can fly two hunks of metal through space and align their positions down to a millimetre, while being a footy field and a half apart.

I wouldn't even know where to begin to tackle a problem like that.

Re:It's easier than ever to de-censor videos on Tuesday April 22, 2025 @08:33PM (#43767603)
Oh wow that's neat! I honestly didn't think of using chunks instead of a single line and the result looks pretty good.

I love the fact the top (or first?) comment is by dllu, and looking on their webpage I saw the tram photo from Wikipedia! It's cool to see the photographer talking about their work. I think about that tram photo so much.

Re:It's easier than ever to de-censor videos on Tuesday April 15, 2025 @05:44PM (#43698771)
I love line scan cameras. Wikipedia has an awesome photo of a tram taken with a line scan camera on the relevant wiki page[1].

I've just moved to a house with a train line track out front. I want to see if I can use a normal camera to emulate a line scan camera. I have tried with a few random YouTube videos I found [2].

I think the biggest issue I face is that there simply isn't the frame rate in most camera's to get a nicely detailed line scan effect.

I remember years ago seeing a prerelease version of one of the wolverine movies. As the CGI models were still grayscale, it was cool to see at what points the fights were actors and what points it was CGI.

Odysseus is the one of the few things to get me truly excited an quite some time. I will most likely never be able to attend one but by god I would love too.

I want to try get involved in the local event scene to get some experience. I think the only way I will get to experience something like Odysseus it is to run my own.

Re:Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (February 2025) on Monday February 24, 2025 @04:36AM (#43157553)
I have been screwing around with the idea of converting a video to a line scan camera. I wrote a small blog host about it. [1]

After seeing an example image on wikipedia someone took of a tram [2] I want to try do it to the trains that run near my house.

Man, there is no way I can read this. I got choked up just reading the titles of the blog posts, knowing what was coming.

I remember being younger and not being emotionally bothered by anything. Yet as I get older I am able to relate to so much more and everything hits so much harder because of it.

Hah! I waited far too long for the page to load. It wasn't until I moved my mouse to another window that I realized.

Oh wow, did not realize Minetest rebranded. I guess to avoid legal troubles?
Yeah, I made a mistake with my config. I had setup SWAG, with Authelia (i think?). Got password login working with 2fa. But my dumbass didn't realize I had left ports open. Logged in one day to find a terminal open with a message from someone who found my instance and got in. Called me stupid (I mean they're not wrong) and all kinds of things and deleted everything from my home drive to "teach me a lesson". Lesson painfully learnt.

But before that happened Webtop was amazing! I had Obsidian setup so I could have access on any computer. It felt great having "my" computer anywhere I went. The only reason I don't have it set up is because I made the mistake of closing my free teir oracle cloud thinking I could spin up a fresh new instance and since then I haven't been able to get the free teir again.

I would go one further and suspect the author used only their left hand to type the message!

This is amazing. I think this would be a fun project for me and the kids to make and have a useful tool to help them with their curiosity.
This is awesome. Many years ago I tried making an Android app for uni that would help you point your phone at the star you selected. The maths for that was insane and way over my head, I can only imagine that satellites would be much harder.

Such a cool use of everyday tech!

This is interesting. I always new the big tech companies had trackers all over the place, but I didn't realize it was so bad.

Would be interesting to run this with and without ad blockers and other filter lists to see how good they do at actually protecting you from tracking.

I, too, ran my own instance. I enjoyed it for some time but I've now moved to the omg.lol ecosystem. I feel that by paying a little money for it that I have a higher chance of the server not shutting down.

Well, I'm one of the ten thousand today because it's new to me!
I remember looking at this for the first time many years ago. I don't remember the exact steps that caused the circumstance to appear but I left the page open with the sound on. For quite some time after that I spent ages trying to figure out where the intermittent clicking sound was coming from. It drove me nuts. I felt very silly when I figured it out.

Would be cool to get a system and contribute. I find it crazy just how far some of the sensors are triggered.

Re:Ren'Py on Wednesday August 21, 2024 @10:14PM (#41316136)
I've always toyed with the idea of making some stories for my kids in Ren'Py. Although, I've been toying with the idea for so long that I might get them done in time for the time I have grandchildren.
I love this style of rabbit holing. I would love a way to view my code at work with this method. Does anyone know if such a thing exists?

Re:Compromised Visions Are Superior on Thursday June 06, 2024 @05:56PM (#40602831)
The idea of being more creative by being limited reminds me of the journaling style solo TTRPG's.

I like to dabble in fiction writing, but give me a blank piece of paper and I freeze. With the journaling solo TTRPG's you are essentially given a list of prompts which are quite often set in a predefined world. Somehow by being forced to write a story with these prompts I can write so much more and far quicker then I could by staring at my own piece of paper.

As another lover of Kagi, Kagi also has bangs. Apparently they also support all DDG bangs.

I just saw this on YouTube and came to post it. It is really cool idea, I love these alternative input methods.
