No, you do not need to compromise, you just have to look outside the US.
Re:Surplus Agriculture Equipment on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @11:16AM (#49627969)
Who among us doesn't have persistent dreams of abandoning society, running for the hills, and becoming off-grid farmers?
Re:U.S. Sanctions Against the a/I Collective on Friday August 28, 2026 @01:55PM (#49482158)
Having "pro-PKK views" (or for other groups designated as terrorists for that matter) is not against the law in the US as that is a first amendment right (as long as that speech is not support).
Re:Inception-style curved map for turn-by-turn directions on Friday August 28, 2026 @10:46AM (#49479331)
A variant of this but taking place on an O'Neill Cylinder would be amazing. I've always been captivated by the idea of the horizon curving up in front of you.
There needs to be some sort of penalty for filing frivolous DMCA notices.
Re:U.S. Sanctions Against the a/I Collective on Friday August 28, 2026 @10:34AM (#49479138)
Is there any indication or proof that they are providing services to PKK? Equating supporting protest organizers in the west with supporting an armed terrorist group is laughable and dangerous.
Re:Bill Gates: The turbulent AI era is here on Thursday August 27, 2026 @05:50PM (#49471772)
People enjoy living in cities, at least some of us do. Personally the thought of everyone living on their own personal homestead manned by robots sounds really boring and lonely?
Yeah, basically this. People have been calling themselves Antifascist, but only the right-wing calls it "Antifa". Literally anyone carrying a sign at a protest that says "Reject Fascism" is an antifascist. Those are the people the US government is calling terrorists.
It's not a loosely organized group, it's a label applied (by the right) to many different groups with little to no coordination operating in entirely different places
If the US government can designate their ideological opponents as terrorists without due process or any real justification, then nobody is safe.
What the US government is doing here is a perversion of justice. Anyone running web services critical of those in control of the US government should be extremely concerned.
Re:Bike Bureau: Report Bike Lane Obstructions on Wednesday August 12, 2026 @01:33PM (#49275952)
In Boston we have a 311 app and I've taken to reporting every single bike lane obstruction I can find when walking about. I don't bike myself anymore after an accident last year in a bike when I was hit by a taxi. Things are definitely trending in the wrong direction in Boston.
This just sounds cartoonishly evil
Re:Who's Afraid of Chinese Models? on Monday July 20, 2026 @07:00PM (#48985950)
I'm worried that any ban on Chinese AI models might be an excuse to get mass surveillance.
Re:Airport Simulator on Monday July 20, 2026 @04:39PM (#48984589)
I love this emerging "3D pixel art" trend. Stylized graphics always age better than realistic. And it definitely has more charm
The Catskills have those environmental protection laws because they are the water source for NYC. It would be very stupid to relax those to build data centers.
Re:The people who actually want AI to replace humanity on Sunday May 31, 2026 @11:09AM (#48346312)
These people should be treated as insane, because they are.

The blog post offers several studies as evidence, where's yours?

Yes but let's not pretend this isn't a new interpretation.
Re:Everyone in Seattle hates AI on Wednesday December 03, 2025 @04:18PM (#46140271)
Moving to the Cloud proved to be a pretty nice moneymaker far faster and more concretely than AI has been for these companies. It's a fair comparison regarding corporate pushes but not anything more than that.
Re:Everyone in Seattle hates AI on Wednesday December 03, 2025 @04:15PM (#46140237)
Some people really do hate AI, it's not entirely about the layoffs. This is a well insulated bubble but you can find tons of anti-AI forums online.
Couldn't you just say that language is just one of many avenues of thought, instead of being the only way?
I keep thinking I need to get into some new AI topic like MCP, but then my procrastination pays off when it becomes outdated not even six months later.
In hindsight, the previously scientific conception that Humans were somehow different than animals and that we don't have things like instincts comes across as incredibly foolish and not a little bit conceited.
It's good to have competition, but they're a fair bit behind SpaceX and it's hard to see them catching up without a lot of investment.
Re:Shopping research in ChatGPT on Monday November 24, 2025 @01:20PM (#46037204)
I'm a bit worried how invasive and toxic this could end up in ~10 years when OpenAI needs to push profit more.
Re:Google does not train Gemini on Gmail data on Monday November 24, 2025 @01:19PM (#46037190)
Nevertheless, Google has a remarkable trust problem with the general public.
We're not talking about famine, we're talking about people living in poverty? What's your argument here? That because nobody dies of malnutrition we don't have true poverty?
