Anything public is vague, (ab)using computer science terms for something that as i guess so far seems more like a physical/mental practice, and everything that could help to understand it better is not public but offered to be bought.
Especially, it seems its not software to run on a Computer.
It seems not to be in the interest or capabilities of the authors to give people a simple, few sentences explanation about this - and clarity and simplicity of communication is not one of this System’s goals obviously...
Might still be interesting.
If google takes the path of rather locking everything down then risking to lose a cent, it’s safe for them and bad for customers... not fine.
Sure risk is never just dissolving into light, nuce smelling smoke. Someone has to take and handle it.
I propose it’s the company who makes billions to handle it gracefully for customers ...
I am not even thinking that GDPR is implemented/written very greatly, and i was fearing too that it will mainly help to put small businesses out of any product category where storing even just an Email address is necessary(eg have an login and want to enable users to restoa forgotten password) while big companies have their lawyers to allow them keep abusing our data on the edge of legal possibilities and not to our favour...
So Im not yet sure if having no GDPR is better or worse than having none... Just, simply saying if you have data protection laws i avoid your market without any detailed reason or proposal how to improve doesn’t bring us forward...
Also in general the masses probably will never see why to pay 10 bucks or whatever for quality content as they are happy being served the other stuff... i mean, ads wouldn’t be so successful if there weren’t people viewing the crap content they are placed in... even less being clicked on.
But there are thousands of people even responding to spam mails and sending money to some Nigerian Kings...
Wait. How about paying quality content from these. I mean, just telling them your brother has a million in the bank and they just need to pay 1000 to get it out and be rewarded with 10% etc... instead of nothing as usual, they get quality content! Ok after reading too much of that they won’t do it anymore. Selfdestructing Business.
It’s the content providers that need to find ways to get paid for content and the users who need to understand that content needs someone to create it and these people need to make a living. That being said, a lot of content out there is low quality abd even written fir nothing but attracting search engines - creating traffic and views which get paid by advertisers. So there is a psrt of content and providers nobody will want to pay for and nobody will be missing if it’s gone. The people creating that stuff need to find a way to make a living off something that actually somebody wants and needs...
Mainstream people dont need and dont value products being great in every detail.
I don’t know what they need. But as google is still successful with a search engine that used to be great a decade ago because it delivered results for exactly what i was looking for and nothing else, and now is more a „whatever you search, we‘ll serve you some results no matter if words you search really appear there, they seem to be happy being served anything wether it’s what they ordered or not...
For the minority with high demands on products his is difficult because we have to look for new providers again and again after the logic of growth makes companies shift to cater there products to the mainstream... after using us as beta testers and advertisers.
And having no „end users“ (app developers) on a conference about tools that should serve exactly these is an interesting observation to investigate further.
Having to install one mire tool to get ready for production apps installed with helm in one command is not asked too much, though.
Then, slighty unrelated, but it comes to my mind:
i wonder if this happy path thing works with influx, where the author is working.
Can i have a simple single command and install everything i need to look at logs from my app and db server, see most important performance stats and http/ip access logs, geaphical as well as with notifications if certain, easily to be entered ( and in case of cou, io, ram and diskspace reasonable defaults like 80% or so) thresholds are met?
Can i do that with only the free open source tools as the author expects it from the k8s ecosystem? Or do i get it when buying influx‘s professional service?
So maybe it’s the job of, and an opportunity for, commercial companies to develop and sell such simplifying tools. At some place, developers time to develop all these things must be paid for - if millions of developers just use the perfectly polished open source tools - and a high percentage doesn’t even help in development with big reports, not to think of patches, what are the developers going to live from while doing the polishing/ simplifying?
On the other hand, someone who already worked with 10 Languages, 7 webframeworks and 5 deployment/config management tools plus showing good craftmanship has enough experience to learn one more of these quickly. Only for a short term gig, the learning/being productive relation could be disproportional.
I‘ve experienced it being habdled rather the latter than the former way and don’t remember not getting a job for having not yet worked with one of these tools, but bei g chosen for experience and quality work.
Put another way:
If the goal is to prevent certain actions by making them illegal and a given boundary can already ensure that, whats the point in widening that boundary even more?
