Thats if they can make enough to make them accessible to the masses.
Re:Raspberry Pi Zero 3W and Pi 4 Model A spotted in device trees on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @04:01AM (#50270462)
I've been doing home electronics projects since around 2013, I used to use Raspberry Pi's for everything from lighting control to robots, camera projects and lots in between (I even had a mechanical keyboard with a Pi inside) and a massive collection of hats and addons. These days, I can do 99% of what I need with tiny little ESP32 variant boards for a fraction of the cost and significantly less complexity. Hell, you can even get esp32's with really nice touch screens attached for dashboards / animations. I built a whole cyberdeck using an ESP32 and no computer in-sight.
I have a theory... the call to slow down is not because of the true danger of LLM's but because they can't actually deliver the General AI they're promising in the near future. They will use their "caution" to justify their failure to deliver (and then when this excuse is played out they will blame regulation, energy costs or a million other things).

Are hidden cameras in hotel rooms such a concern that normal citizens need to be concerned with it?
Re:Reverse Engineering My ADHD Test on Tuesday September 01, 2026 @05:49AM (#49519916)
This was part of how my ADHD was diagnosed. I did a full day of testing at a specialist center. First I had a conversation with a nurse, then a psychologist, then they had me do a similar test (but in a controlled environment and I also had face tracking and a motion sensor monitoring my movement). After the test, I was given lunch and a dose of adhd medication and about an hour break, then they had me do the test again. After that I met with a psychiatrist who walked me through the test results. Then I had another break while the three specialists met to discuss my case and make a diagnosis. Finally I met with the three to hear the outcome (I was also given a full write-up of my results from the day).

My one surprise from this article is that "play a web game for 18 minutes" in an uncontrolled environment was considered enough testing for a diagnosis!

It's somewhere in this talk (broken down as a playlist). It's been a while since I've watched it but I do recall him saying that they can see physically differences in the brain of adhd folks

These are hobbyist devices for makers... you shouldn't consider them an Apple-esque device that just works. M5 bring the hardware, you bring the software.
Re:Raspberry Pi Pico W as USB Wi-Fi Adapter on Wednesday June 24, 2026 @03:43AM (#48656539)
Oooooh, now I'm thinking... you could design a simple circuitboard that holds multiple picos (surface mounted) and uses the USB data pads on the back to pull all the USB ports out to an onboard USB hub basically allowing you to add a multitude of wifi adapters to a project in one USB cable. Would be great for War Driving!
Before we had the ESP32 type products that are now popular, using a Pi was often one of the only easy ways to make simple internet connected devices at home. I remember making smart lights and home sensors, speakers, clocks and all sorts of things using the Pi Zero W. It was cheap, small and easy to get up and running.

I and many other people very much used it like a microcontroller.

I've personally bought at least 10 of these things. Some of us build keyboards for fun!
Go to store, select "pay by Wero". Get redirected to payment screen where I select my bank. My bank just shows a QR code that I scan with my bank app, authenticate the usual way, redirect back to store, job done.
When we need that, we can use Apple/Android pay in many many places or just spin up a temporary visa/mastercard with platforms like Revolut.

You upgrade the Mk3 to a Mk3s, upgrade the Mk3S to the Mk4, upgrade the Mk4 to the Mk4s and the Mk4s to the Core One.

Prusa sell upgrade kits for each generation of printer.

If you were to do it all in one go it would require replacing the same components multiple times and would be insanely expensive and time consuming but if you upgrade as the product evolves its not a big deal (I recently upgraded my Mk4 to a Mk4s and I'll probably jump to the Core One in the coming year if I have some free time).

Just installed... this is super interesting. Shorts are my kryptonite and I've been looking for something that gives me YouTube without the crap for a while now!

BTW... just so you know, you have to uninstall the official app otherwise YouTube just redirects you.

When I got the prompt it just said "your account age is old enough to prove your age" and didn't ask for any further info.
Would i require some public server side component to handle the call routing etc? (or could you just use something like Google Voice?)
Re:MacBook Neo on Thursday March 05, 2026 @04:44AM (#47259669)
Kid probably realised his friends all had windows machines that could serve double duty as a gaming machine and wanted some of that action.
Re:MacBook Neo on Thursday March 05, 2026 @04:34AM (#47259599)
My kids school has been giving every kid in the upper school an m1 macbook air and they have to replace a LOT of them. Everything they do is in the cloud (Google classroom, docs etc) so they don't need powerful machines. The school was considering moving to chromebooks but I can see them choosing this instead just to keep their current provisioning workflows etc.
What's the difference between a big company and a criminal gang if not for the law? If it wasn't for the big companies, more dangerous things would be illegal, just like Heroin and other hard drugs.
Adafruit actually focus on CircuitPython which is a fork of Micro Python but takes some of the complexity of Micro Python away. I don't personally like coding in C++ as I started my career with Perl then PHP and Javascript. Writing Python in my own choice of text editor instead of the Arduino IDE is much more my style.
In one of the BBC articles when talking about the ghost gun in his possession, they have added "possibly 3d printed". This is the only place I have seen this mentioned and it's really annoying because there is already enough rhetoric about 3d printed guns and various groups trying to regulate 3d printers, the last thing we need is something as big as this for them to attach to!

I'm sure this is very interesting but given that you decided to use light grey text on a white background the whole page was unreadable.
Re:A common urban intersection in the Netherlands on Thursday November 21, 2024 @05:41AM (#42202928)
Fellow Amsterdam resident here, this kind of layout is very common all over the city (I live in the south of the city but I have seen these all over).
All time stock price high this past week too.
Re:Amazon tells employees to return to office five days a week on Tuesday September 17, 2024 @06:18AM (#41566152)
Same here, thanks to me working from home my wife has been able to return to work (she's a teacher) which has given us more income (and less costs!) and massively improved our financial position!
Re:Amazon tells employees to return to office five days a week on Tuesday September 17, 2024 @06:17AM (#41566142)
Do they actually "own" it? I work for a large company who spent millions building a new office and then immediately sold it to a different company so they could lease it instead of owning it (apparently this looks better on the books!)

Re:Air Con: $1697 for an on/off switch on Thursday August 29, 2024 @04:21AM (#41388541)
I had a similar situation with my shutter blinds. The company wanted €500 to install a "smart hub" to enable voice control instead of their little remote. To hell with that, I ordered a couple of servos and an esp8266 and 3d printed some little fingers that would press the buttons on the remote and added the whole thing to HomeAssistant via ESPHome. Cost me less than €30.
Re:Re: Do people IRL know you have a blog? on Tuesday July 23, 2024 @04:37AM (#41043952)
I remember back in the early 00's someone at work found out about my blog and news got around the office (it was a personal blog, more like a diary and I was in my late teens so it was kinda "edgy"). Anyways... within a few days I started getting a bunch of troll comments and it took all the fun out of it knowing everything I wrote was being read by my colleagues.
